Hope you can make this kind of analysis more often, they are insightful, and btw I agree that volume adjustments make a tremendous difference as to how those frequencies are perceived I do prefer the Chopin, works best with my 90s alternative library, just because I find 90s recordings not "mastered" for clarity and soundstage, unlike the recordings from 00 to present
That's what I been trying to explain for years. Once the volume goes up the upper mid and treble goes up by 3 dB for each 10db volume and the mid bass and bass goes up only by 1 bd for each 10db. So chopin foe higher volumes and no mid bass becomes thin. And something with less upper mids and treble and with even 1 dB more mid bass it holds to a better sound with louder volumes .maybe if one day you have time you can record at 80db coming from the iem but lower the master volume on the daw to hear the difference.
Hello, thanks for the cool demos and reviews! Which headphones up to $200 would you recommend for heavy music genres: rock, metal? I did choose between simgot ae1000 and hidizs mp145. Do you know other better options?
Hi Dan excellent review. I really appreciate your explanations and thoughts 🙏. can I ask what your thoughts are on different tips making a difference for example silicone v foam?
I don’t tip roll much with reviewed IEMs. I tend to stick to stock or spinfit CP145 (my main silicone tip to use on any IEM when the stocks don’t work out, due to fit or comfort or something)
Also dig this format with the graphical analysis. Brings a different angle of 'objectivity' to help bring the message home to highlight the differences between the sets. Just a friendly 2 cents: Perhaps you can hover your mouse cursor over to certain parts of the graph to help bring the audience attention to the part you're discussing. Either way, it's refreshing to see and hear that you're always looking for ways to bring something new to form a well rounded yet informative discussion!
The vast majority of the listening volume is in the 600Hz to 1.5kHz region. Not in the upper midrange region (or presence region as you may believe). That region is mostly for clarity and details in some instruments. The Oh10 has a more raised upper midrange and treble and about the same bass level as the Chopin (when looking at graphs). But the Oh10 sounds more meaty in the bass while not sounding significantly brighter than the Chopin. Why? Because the midrange region I mentioned (600Hz to 1.5kHz) is scooped out. Increasing the volume on the Oh10 to match the Chopin in listening level will lift that that region in the Oh10 and make the bass sound more meaty. The spirit of what you are talking about is correct though. Just not the proper regions. With that said, which do you like better the Chopin or the Hype 4?
Not crazy at all. They do have lots of clean apparent detail. But…they don’t have the same weight as the Hype 2. Plus, the EW200 has a bit of a bright nature in the upper mids. Not sibilant, but can be a bit distracting if you’re not into it.
Thanks for the comparisons Dan. I felt the same about the P5 as you mentioned in one review. Along with the FUDU. I have both and enjoy them. Couldn't be happier. And so I listened to your recommendation and got the Hype 2 instead of the Cannon II. No pressure there Dan. But I'm relying on your recommendation. So I've been inclined to act on your recommendation with this one. I've just been really enjoying the P5 tonight. Hoping the Hype lives up to the hype. Yep, H2 arriving soon. Cheers Dan 🥂
Hey thanks for asking my opinion. I find it hard to say which I prefer more. Each one has a very different sound. The Hype 2 is more bright and lively, maybe a little sibilant. It also has better imaging than P5, but has a noticeable dip in the midrange. So vocals sound less present. Nice micro details and treble extension. The P5 is not as bright and easier to listen to for longer. A more balanced sound. Not sibilant at all. A nice quality I really enjoy. They both fit in my ears incredibly well. Both are great choices depending on which sound signature suits you and your music better. Happy new year!!@@fuzail3379
@@grizzly6699 Which one has better bass? Also, the p5 sounds muffled on the videos. This channel actually kinda is making me give up on buying them. Might go for the FUDU, but the details on the Hype 2, though...
How is the comfort with the thieaudio products (hype 2 or Monarch mk3)? I last tried the clairvoyance and it was a little uncomfortable and hard to find a good seal. Lastly, I hated the technical chops of the Aful p5. The tonal balance was near perfect. Soundstage was too small and sub par imaging etc. They are collecting dust. I'll try the hype. I also prefer the graph of the Monarch mk3 over the mk2 because I hate mid bass tuck
Damn, that AFUL sounds great... listening with IEMa that are midrange forward :). see my point? Anybody commenting on the sound of your comparison needs to tell us what they'relistening through, or understanding their comments are impossible.
1.Thank you . 2. The track after Red Hots is generally not suitable for demoing since it's too diffused in sound IMO , too enveloping around , not distinct and separated , if you will .
I love the bump when it goes down between the 60hz to 40. Because when drums hits is around 500hz or 1k when it's loud. Then the rumble of the hit goes down in a curve . That's more controlled foe rock or metal that we want bass without vibration and clean. When comes to r&b then is better to have the rumble go up in the left side of the graph instead of a curve. I am a metal dude. Bring me the curve in the bass
There is a little doubt for me... In the graphs it was showing dB values for different graphs at the bottom... which was different for different iems Just wondered if these were graphed at different volumes...? If so would that effect the end results...
It’s an issue of measurement software settings or something with calibrating the measured values to the actual loudness. The actual loudness of each IEM was matched. The SPL readings indicate that too. My meters also showed the same loudness as I was setting up the IEMs with pink noise, prior to running the graph measurement.

But I think there’s a middle ground where, if I choose what to speak about well enough in balance, I can hit both worlds and relate them to eachother.
I prefer the Chopin to the other 2. P5 sounds breathy, a bit shouty, and a tad artificial as the vocals get higher. Hype 2 bass bleeds into lower midrange and overpowers the vocals. I can see why some people would like the Hype 2 for its bass profile and lush sound overall. Chopin feels more incisive and balanced, with beautiful vocals, plenty of detail, enough treble shimmer, and a well-balanced impactful bass. Thanks for providing the opportunity to compare them.
