I'm thinking it may be the protagonist. Their father is a human, whilst their mother is a celestial. I imagine this will be one of the options in the customisation, where you pick whether you want to look more like your mother (celestial) or your father (human).
I'm very happy it's a voiced protagonist. I personally find it more immersive. I'm incredibly excited for Exodus but will temper my expectations bc we've had devs over promises and under deliver a lot. Also, I adored Tom's character reveal and can't wait to see if the other companions get the same treatment.
Voiced Protagonist, definitely. It helps so much with immersion, feeling like you are the protagonist in some sense, and I think it's part of what made the Mass Effect trilogy so popular. I really hope that they can make this game a success!
I agree, i guess i understand why they dont voice protagonists but to me it feels empty and bland and boring. I dont want to answer as myself, i want to escape and play a badass
oh nice, i didn’t realise they answered my question haha. i asked about whether the protagonist was voiced because i’m similar to you, Kala, in preferring voiced over silent, for sure. cool to have the confirmation!
I really hope the voiced protag for both male and female are as good as Mark Meer and Jeniffer Hale. I've never really thought voiced protags were good for custom characters except the og mass effect games, so im just hoping they get some great talent for the game
I also think it just makes sense because Bioware has always made their custom characters with a lot of ties to the world and story. And so it just makes sense for them to be voiced.
Voiced protag is always a win. Having a voice adds much more to the immersion for an RPG. I'm having trouble enjoying the aesthetic they are going with this. Perhaps it won't matter when everything else is amazing. Tempering my expectations of this until a gameplay showcase comes out.
I completely agree. A voiced protagonist makes it so much better. I also agree on the aesthetic. It is fine but when fans of Mass Effect look at it, it will feel just a bit generic. I was hoping the art style would be similar to Mass Effect. I also hopes that the alien designs would also be like Mass Effect. All it is, is humans with different skin colours.
I find customizable player characters add to the immersion of a game. Its like being in your own space adventure film or TV show. Games with out it leave me a bit detached. I hope one day there will be a feature that uses webcam or up loaded jpg images to construct a likeness of the play. Some games allow a pitch adjustment to the prerecorded voice. I don't recall what game, I think it was a Dragon Age game. I may be wrong.
In the Q&A video, James Ohlen said the "You are going to have the freedom to explore this new universe the way you want to explore it. That's always an important factor in a role-playing game, so definitely not linear" I wonder if he means that the game will be like Mass Effect 1 exploration style. I just hope that they won't go full-on open world.
@tuggy_ agreed! Navigating the mountains with the Mako was frustrating, especially with the absence of a detailed map of the area where you can not find the main road, nor is it highlighted on the screen
I don't think that means that. What I think is going to happen is that the player will be in a cluster and can decide to leave it before finishing everything. And then come back to those unfinished quests changing the world. What this will mean is most players will do everything before traveling forward into time.
I like the way they are introducing this game to us (with your help Kala) They will have a big fanbase even before release and we will be familiar with the universe and characters before we even load the game. I think that will be a nice way to start playing. I'm very excited for it, they are clearly full on sci fi fans and (not to mention!😅) have been involved in Mass Effect so it can only be good. Starting to worry about those big decisions I'll have to make though 😮😂 Thanks Kala ❤
I can’t wait for this game to be released. I wasn’t this excited for a game in a long time, I belive since the Mass Effect 3. Thanks Kala for keeping us updated. Nice work!
You say four is a small roster of companions, but if they are high-quality and have tons of depth, less can be more. Personally I would love a handful of interesting and detailed companions over more that are less so. Any time jumps will have to also impact companion stories, no? Writing a companion character might be a lot more involved as a result, instead of being able to toss one or two missions for them into the game that can be completed at any time and are largely separate from the main story (as in ME2).
I enjoy hearing voice protagonists, but I really would love to see/hear different voices you can choose from in character creation. It makes each playthrough with each new character really feel like their own person. Unfortunately, time and cost prevent it from happening.
I honestly just cannot wait this game looks like they really put their heart and soul into it and from what I understand it’s gonna be a piece of art. This looks like the kind of game that could win game of the year like three years running and making it into the Hall of Fame of gaming.
I prefer a voice protagonist like commander, Shepherd, or you get some voice out of fallout four. I’m gonna make the prediction that based on how much the revealing right now that I would not be surprised if the game comes out next year.
The problem with Fallout 4's voiced protagonist is that Bethesda didn't commit to them being characters. They wanted a blank slate with a voice. Which just doesn't work.
I love the voice for commander shepherd Mark meer? I think I got his name right was so good honestly immersed myself so greatly in a lot of scenes just because how good he was.
I am interested in this game, but I will wait and see. No pre-orders for me ever again. Not even a first day buy. I wait at least 6 months before I buy.
The customizable character is actually a great feature, you can also select the back story of your character, something similar to the character creation of Warhammer Darktide 🤔
Well I can't wait till January! We're in it lol what day? And that rot humanoid looks a lot like a husk, and that augmented right arm no doubt an omni-tool alternative 😊
You are just not gonna let me forget this game is coming until it hits, are you? You are going to force me into high levels of hype so that I check every day to see if the game is out! Lol
I’m happy to have a voiced protagonist, but I don’t have a preference there. I’m excited to learn more about the story. I’m just hoping this game doesn’t break my heart the way Starfield’s ending hurt me.
I remember watching the trailer and my attention being drawn mainly to the "gameplay" part. It was still a curiosity at best and then I watched your videos and my interest in the game has gone up 1000%. I'm still going to be cautious though. I've been hyped for so many games over the last few years and then been burnt by almost every single release. Because of that I've been somewhat semi-retired from gaming and not actively keeping an eye on what's going on in the gaming space. So again thank you so much for these videos. If Exodus and Mass Effect 5 can give us all the action, romances and choices we all so desperately need, then holy crap it's gonna be exciting to say the least. So, the companion that's in a mech suit, and sorry if this has already been answered, why are they in a mech suit ? Possibly someone is infected with the Rot and the mech suit is actually a life support system ? Maybe they're disabled in some way and the suit gives them the freedom to move around ? Or maybe they're just simply a badass soldier that uses a mech suit to kick ass ? Crazier still is that maybe it's designed to fit an awakened animal... There's so much to unpack from what is already such a rich and expansive world and boy is it gonna be great joining everyone on this rollercoaster ride to the games release.
I am very happy with all the info we got so far (thanks for putting it together btw). Has the protagonist voice actor(s) been announced and i just missed it or we dont know yet? I would personally love Laura Bailey to do the job
I really don’t like silent protagonists, it’s old fashioned and really showed in a game like Starfield, but also did in Metro Exodus as another example.
Oh, almost forgot, what awakened animal is everyone looking forward to having join their crew ? For myself I gotta go with a tiger or a horse. Yeah, they're pretty nutty choices but they're my two favourite animals...😅
@StevenMorganN75 sounds great. At least they won't die if you forget to feed'm. Spent all my credits in ME2 bying new fishes coz they kept dying of malnourishment. 😅😅😅
I wonder if the traveler is inspired by The Traveler in Star Trek in both OG and TNG. Could the pig be like the cat in the OG. Exodus does mention shape shifters.
I wonder why they didn't even mention Mass Effect at all. Was it because they can't because they would get into trouble or are they waiting to talk about soon as they stated in the video or was it for something else?
I actually thought that was weird too. Honestly I assume they don't want to be in the shadow of their bioware titles. It must be annoying to be constantly compared. Just my guess anyways.
That's exactly what I was thinking, strange to completely avoid mentioning Mass Effect. I love the other games they did mention though, just playing Horizon now. It's natural that people will compare if they were involved in Mass Effect as the fans will be interested, doesn't have to be negative just excitement.

And so tried not to alienate them by keeping it short. But like why would people who hate voiced protagonists play Exodus? When it is going to be a spiritual successor to Mass Effect. A game that isn't like BG3 or Pathfinder. It just seems odd to me. Regardless I am looking forward to the game immensely.
@@juliabianco4108 yeah! It just doesn't feel right. Like something is preventing me from being immersed with my Tav. Shepard and Hawke feel way more connected to the world and story than Tav does. I honestly can't wait to play Exodus. I hope it's really good.

After thinking about it, I wonder if that creature pictured on the Become the Traveler picture is a human affected by the Rot 🤔
It could be. It also seems to be bearing quite the resemblance to Drax from guardians of the galaxy ( if you ignore the massive difference in size)😅😅
