I'm still trying to figure out why there are two different names for this letter: Z. Why didn't Americans adopt the term "zed" or why didn't Canadians adopt the term "zee". Down the rabbit hole I go.
Edit: it's mainly because Americans wanted to be different from the UK after the revolutionary war and Canadians want to remain different from Americans and they also have a closer tie to the UK.
