People born after say, 1980 don’t realize how big of a deal Batman (the ‘66 series) was to us in the baby boomer/ Gen X era. When there were only three network channels and one VHS local channel. I watched the reruns in the early ‘70’s. These McFarlane figures and accessories are exactly the kind of toys we would search for in toy isles, always being frustrated and bewildered why there were zero toys from the show. Except I did have the Corgi die cast Batmobile, which was probably the best toy based on the series, ever. Still have my old one on the shelf.

I was born in 82 and this was my Batman until the Animated Series came around (boy, what a contrast that was!). I’m from Belgium and I used to watch it and other old-timey shows like the Addams Family tv-show constantly on the French channel. It actually makes me feel very proud that I grew up on that stuff. Talking to people of my age a lot of them either completely missed out on those shows or had no attachment to it. It’s indeed rare to see anyone so excited about this stuff but luckily there are some left that are. Recently I finally got my hands on the complete series blu-ray set, as well as the Addams Family one. Man, if these are not the very definition of comfort tv I don’t wanna know what is.

@@jarosbodytko6462 It was definitely a great era that gave us a lot of immersive entertainment. I learned to appreciate the Animated Series later in life, after I purchased the DVD’s. Great to hear your experiences, thanks!

I'm glad you included a scale to other figures as that was my big worry with this line, considering how relatively inexpensive it is, I had assumed it was off scale in some way. Since that isn't the case, dollar for dollar, this might be the best value licensed line out there.

  • @Fuzzy_Barbarian

I have no attachment to Batman '66, but I saw the dioramas in-person the other day, and maaaaan am I tempted just because they might work for other figures. But the figures themselves just look fun, and like you said, the more limited articulation is kinda fitting. Not because it's an old show, but because I don't think anyone was super nimble and dexterous on that show? These just look really charming all around.

Haha, yeah, I haven't seen the show in a long time so I went and watched some clips. There's a LOT of standing and talking, with little spurts of action and fighting. Like you said, fitting.

Iirc there was a script for an actual Two Face episode for season 3 where Harvey would have been played by Clint Eastwood that got canned for either budget or scheduling reasons. Elements of the episode were later reused for BTAS (the thing where the coin wouldn't land flat was taken directly from the script) and eventually, Two Face showed up in the Batman '66 comic series and later an animated movie where he was voiced by William Shatner.

I've been tempted a few times by the standard version of the Joker, I've got a miscellaneous Joker display so he'd fit right in. I know Two-Face appeared in that recent animated film, but I'd love to see other classic Batman rogues who weren't in the series be given a retro style treatment.
Seeing as we've got the main four villains from the show and film, plus Mr. Freeze and now Two-Face, I think Poison Ivy and Scarecrow would to me round out that classic villain lineup. Plus they were supposedly meant to show up in the series at some point, heck Poison Ivy was created purely because the showrunners asked DC to make more female villains for them to use, only for them to never actually use her.

I've been following this line from day one. There's still so many villains that I'd love to see figures of - Tallulah Bankhead as Black Widow, Ethel Merman as Lola Lasagne, Cliff Robertson as Shame, etc. It's astounding they've gotten permission from all the estates to make the likenesses for the villains they have so far. They've made both Eartha Kitt and Julie Newmar's Catwoman and that blew me away. The Egghead and Mr. Freeze figures are so spot on, and this King Tut figure is also amazing. Not including the ones in your video, they've released 22 figs so far (including three hard to get Platinum Chase editions). Hopefully many more to come!

I've been 100% in on this line since it was released. That's not to say that I bought every single figure that they put out, but I got all the main heroes and villains so far along with all the playsets and vehicles. Glad to see that you're also getting into it now that you have some in your hands. They are pretty cool, and very nostalgic if you're a big fan of the 66 Batman like I am.
Can't wait to get my hands on those new pieces that you just got, mine are all in pre-order right now.
I know they are a value piece but I would have loved to have seen the bat phone had an LED light bulb in it and the noise, just like the McFarlane teaser trailer had. I'm sure someone will be able to be creative and add those two things out there, and sell kits online at some point. I'd definitely be down for one of those. That should be something you do & feature on one of your play date videos. Hint hint.

I’ve only picked up a few items from this line, but Egghead is a must, being that Vincent Price was a local boy. He might still be in your stores?
I was looking at one of the Joker variants the other day, no mustache on him, either, but I thought the initial release had it?
I’m not sure who Two-Face is modeled after? Apparently Shatner voiced him in the animated movie, but they had another actor in mind for the fourth season? Bill would have been too busy on Trek, at that point, I believe?
I just came across my BatCave, still in box. I passed on villain’s lair, but Wayne Manor looks cool.
I’d bet the BatBoat will be in high demand for 6” customizers for ML and Classified, esp. That FortNite boat was gone before it hit shelves, and cheapest I’ve seen is $80 online, but usually at least twice that. 🙄

I don't mind the basic articulation but my only gripe is the hip joints could have been designed better, aesthetically. A basic ball joint would have been so much better. Those who argue "retro articulation" don't seem to fathom the elbow, knees and shoulders are modernised joints. It's a great line that could have real legs if they go into other retro media - Superman 78, Batman 89, etc.

At the beginning of this toyline, I'd wanted to and planned to collect it; however, a bit later on I watched some reviews of the action figures, and MAINLY of the Batmobile, Batcycle and the Batcave, and they totally put me off. McFarlane unfortunately cut corners on these; quite a lot, actually.
The Batcave was the biggest "deterrent" to me. Everything that is "inside" it is made out of cheap, brittle plastic, plus the execution thereof is very poor (for example, just try to look at the backsides of the individual computers). Despite the Batmobile's not scaling well with the figures (it's a bit too small for them; hence they sit inside it a bit too high), the car is 'somehow' still too large to properly fit onto the central "turntable" of the cave (in addition, it's just a lame, cheap thin cardboard paper mat that doesn't do absolutely anything). The poles for Batman and Robin are so flimsy that they feel almost like drinking straws, and moreover, the figs can't even slide them due to the lack of sufficient articulation; they simply just fall down alongside them as you drop them from the top. You might as well just toss them on the floor or tabletop wherever else you want. Ultimately, the Batcave is not a "playset" at all, because it does not have ANY play-features; it is simply just a mere diorama and underwhelming one on top of that.
I've seen comparison videos where the Batmobile and the Batcycle were compared against their older counterparts from about a decade ago, produced by Mattel when they still had the master licence for DC, and the new vehicles came out of it as clear losers. Again, there've been multiple issues with them; quality-wise, feature-wise, detail-wise, etc.
And in a regard of the action figs themselves, they are overall relatively OK for what they are, but I'll add here the severe lack of accessories in (not only) the earlier waves.
I really wanted this toyline to be a success, but in the end I will likely only pick up the Catwomen and Mr. Freeze, because they are my personal favourites from Batman's rogue gallery. Though the newer ones like King Tut and Two-Face also look awesome (thanks for the review of them).
This is also probably the very first time I've been disappointed by the McFarlane Toys; I'd previously never thought that this could happen to me with them.

I gotta say, I bought the Batmobile and while I’m mostly happy with it (it’s basically a big sturdy car you can ram into a wall without damaging it, like toys were back in the day) the lack of sculpt and paint detail is what ruins it for me. There’s not even doors sculpted in. Granted, it’s an open car. But it still needs doors. That being said, Bats and Robin do look good inside it, despite it being underscaled a bit, so it does it’s job ultimately.

Yep, if you're overall happy with it, then I'm definitely glad for you. It's certainly not a disastrous product (well, maybe the friggin' Batcave is a bit). But McFarlane could've certainly done better and I'm pretty sure that not only me would then be willing to pay like extra 5 *quids for it (*I'm from the UK).
After I watched the comparison videos I mentioned above, I felt like, "damn!! I now want the old Batmobile and Batcycle from Mattel so much".

I do like they seemed to have carried on where Funko left off, what with more obscure characters like King Tut and I believe Egghead was announced. I do wish they'd make more accurate figures of the George Sanders and Eli Wallach Mr Freeze's instead of just having Eli be a chase head change on the Preminger Freeze like Funko did(given Wallach was much skinnier) and include the freeze gun(and helmet in the Sanders case). The figures based on the card art also reminds me of how they looked in the animated intro for the show. I agree on ankles though given McFarlane style ankles on their other lines makes me see a lack of them as a sort of blessing in disguise.
From memory Two-Face is based on a comic that was adapted from a script for an episode of the show that never got made and then that got adapted into an animated film with William Shatner voicing him and with his likeness from the 60's as he was one of the names put forward for the role when the script was made. The show got False Face instead. The Dent side makes me think of Bruce at the dinner party in the 89 movie. Penguin traditionally has a white bow tie and pink/purple hat in the show.

I don't feel Two-Face is exactly comic book, as he looks more like the 66 Cartoon movie with William Shatner as Two-Face. But I have never read the 66 comic.
*Rumor has it Clint Eastwood was going to play Two-Face on the series, but the producer wasn't a fan of Eastwood 🤷
