So envious - wish I could start all over again (retired Garda Sergeant) Hope they all enjoy long, productive and happy careers. Has the old fabric tie been reintroduced as worn by the Garda who won the Gary Sheehan medal. If so I think its a great decision. I loved those ties.
I doubt anybody would hold up USA policing as a model of how it should be done. The UK too is not a perfect system - remember the Stephen Laurence case and the Hillsborough disaster. As for regional police forces - well the RUC did not do a very good job and was disbanded. If anything too much antonymous local control leads to more corruption rather than less.
Went in on 23rd January 1983 - the weather was like siberia for the first week. Passed out at the end of June 1983 so initial training was 6 months. I had to go back for a month 'phase 2' training in 1984 and was on two years probation from Jan 23rd 83. The training was no joke back then - many fell by the wayside and did not make it.
So they can square dance but do they know the laws they are going to enforce or will they be just like the rest and just make it up as they go along violating peoples rights because they claim they got a call. As long as they all protect crooked cops they are of no use to the public.
I though one of the Garda was literally going to pass out and fall down..
Foot drill is atrocious
Luke Swit yep
We need justice for the innocent targets of the Special Detective Unit.

Their first priority is to protect government and private vested interests. The public are way down the list.
@@dhalsim-1 The workers were being harassed, is that mot hard to understand?
