@WALL91NUTZ Uh, that's Academy Award winner, Jordan Peele. 😉 My comment was really more of a critique of the show's writers than the on-screen talent.
SNL has spawned LEGENDS in the world of entertainment, no one is taking that away from them, but when it comes to a bulk of their skits, it's often dry, courtesy laughs with the occasional standouts.
At the time when MADtv was hitting its stride, Fox was still finding its footing as a contender in the network wars. I think if MAD had been on ABC or CBS, it would've had possibly greater exposure, but with Fox--because they had that younger demographic--it was able to get away with much riskier & often funnier sketches; just like it's predecessor, In Living Color (which was also funnier than SNL)

This. After 3 years, everything went downhill in mid 1992. Keenan had tons of creative control over ILC. After his brother Damon left for Hollywood, the Family run Sketch Comedy brand began to crumble as Keenan was firing people left and right. It was in 1993 when He was dismissed by FOX executives. Fax Bahr took over and even hired Chris Rock who had been turned down by The Wayans due to nepotism back in ‘89. But with ILC no longer family managed, the end was near and even Jim Carrey knew that. He already informed FOX that he wasn’t going to renew his contract after 93-94, with Carrey out, Fox decided that ILC couldn’t survive without Carrey or his creative control direction. So they canceled it.
Fun Fact: MadTV was originally supposed to sneak peak pilot in November 1994 and begin its run in the Spring of 1995. But ILC executives wanted a Spinoff of ILC instead so House of Buggin’ debuted and ran during the Autumn of 1994 instead. In February 1995 after 8 disastrous shows with immensely poor ratings(It went up against MTV’s budding Gen X fledgling sketch comedy The State), Fax Bahr finally got his way as FOX went full steam ahead with MadTV.

If you watch the top clips of MadTv now you will feel like you used to live in a parrallel universe or alternate timeline, You realize all the race jokes, gay jokes, gender jokes, fat jokes that were simple and slid in between moments have been taken out of everything. They literally had a white guy say the racist jokes to the black actors, Today they would never, AND EVERYONE was ok with it because they WERE AIMING for americans of all races to join in on the fun and the middle class younger adults.
I didn't realize how badly wokeness affected even me because watching it made ME shocked when I thought that part of me was still in tact.. Some of it obviously got damaged if it made surprised re watching it, It was so normal and FUN, It made life feel raw and real, and everyoen in society being exposed to that daily actually seemed to have MORE appreciation for eachother because there was NO ELEPHANT in the room. People could BREATH! Laugh and actually Love being around others
especially at comedy shows where they pulled NO punches, It's why comedians who even dip there toe just a little get the audience back so fast, People can feel the void and are sick of the virtue signalling. People back then instinctivly knew racism was wrong and that was why it was being joked about, You didn't need to really talk about it because when someone WAS being actually racist they looked as absurd as the characters on tv shows. They were laughed at!

And I can show you a few things too (I will always be there for you)
Yeah, I guess it's true what you said about the other night
You know about me growing into a man
But it's not just me (I will always be there for you)
We're growing (girl just call out my name)
But I wanna let you know (listen girl)
No matter how far away you go
Rain or shine (I will always be there for you)

I can remember discovering mad tv in the TV guide being put on at something like 2 in the morning when I became curious about it noticing it has the word mad in it. I was reading mad magazine around that time so the term mad had become synonymous with comedy, prompting me to set the vcr to record it so I could see that mystery show that was put on a time slot that very few people would bother to watch. A lot of them went on to voice overs in Family Guy and other cartoon network shows.
Also, some wrote on the US version of Shameless. I believe Mad TV had way more memorable moments from Melinda and Belinda, to Stuart, and the infamous Aries Spears Magic Johnson Kwanzaa or Bobby Brown and Whitney with Deborah Wilson. Will Sasso as Steven Siegel.
For about 2 weeks now no lie I have been signing "You are the love of my life"... when Will and I think Mo make fun of the classic love song albums.
For real mad TV, def comedy jam and comic view for me really set the bar for what comedy is and was. Even though I grew up watching In living color and Martin. Those shows were definitely pivotal in my comedic palate.
