What a fantastic job, the stone wall now accents the area! So beautiful. So sad to have lost a lovely part of the Chateau. Most beautiful. So pleased to have the opportunity to see your home.
In spite of the fact that part of the home is demolishing and used somewhere else is still gives a sense of pride in the shape that it is now and you have now worked hard in giving it more love and more life and even if the part is gone it’s OK because you’re clearing it and making it beautiful again in your own way and in your own style so the house is happy at least that’s what I see and your videos.💝💝💝best of luck, but above all keep healthy and strong and happy long, long Life.
Thank you for giving us a little history on the torn down section of the Chateau. How interesting. I am glad though that they built another house with the torn down section.
Well done Phil and Angelina, I really enjoy watching your videos! It's a pleasure to see you young people enjoying the simple pleasures of life in the countryside, though of course it's extremely hard work. In fact, you're an excellent example to other people your age! You remind me of my husband and me when we were building our house nearly 40 years ago. Keep up the good work! God bless you x
it is very satisfying to watch the time lapses of you both tackling all these jobs on the lovely grounds of your estate. I know it constitutes a tremendous amount of work, but your motivation and vision for what it will be shine through. It’s really great to see you two working really hard in the garden together , I can see the effort and work you are putting in rather than just waiting for a gardener to come or someone else to do it . You can really get a lot of pleasure from standing back and thinking “ I did that ! “ Great stuff
Ah well done guys...you have a beautiful home & you can see it coming together...can't wait to see that wall when its uncovered...I'm on the search for my first sewing machine..I appreciate all the help & tips I can get when I get started. Shared the link to fb..Château life is something most of us dream of..Congratulations for making it a reality😘
Yeah we can’t wait to see that wall either it’s been a to do task for 5 years, it’s getting easier. Go for a Singer machine, reliable and affordable brand I think that is a great basic start option, the one I was working on is more complicated, I use it a lot to overcome my fears & confusions so I get better at it.
Thanks...I've discovered sewing machines are a mine field..they do every but make a cup of tea...my mum had a singer with a cast iron treadle which was bone crushing if you lost your footing 😫 thanks again xx
Angelina thanks for a tutorial in cleaning out unwanted growth. I had some old things I had to dig up too. (. New house) It took sheer determination to conquer the stubborn plants one by one. To be honest, I did a few & hired someone to come in & do the job. I admire your hard work in conquering your land! What a sweet reward to look back & see how your hard work payed off! Very satisfying!
I did enjoy this episode immensely. I love the gardening that Angelina did, as I do the same and with same equipment, other than the German piece. I feel you have a real appreciation for restoring this lovely building and its surrounds. Best to you both, Jane, Philadelphia
Just found your channel, great to see the work continues on your chateau. Great to see you also have a cherry picker now they seem to be so useful and I have noticed a lot of chateau seem to need them to get all that high level work done, yours looks like the one Michael and Billy had in ETTCDIY. Also loved the woodchipper great to make mulch to make the ground look tidy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! It's a mammoth job, but knowing there are people like you willing to take it on, I find it fills me with hope for the future of humanity.
This has been my favorite look into your outdoorsy life! I love your tidy stairs and that cute boat being brought back to life was amazing! Thanks again from Vancouver Island Canada!

Great video again you two, many thanks! Actually you’ve seriously taught me quite a bit about brambles! I’ve spent many an hour over the years clearing the b@@@@@d things away, this week too. I never knew about the “bulb” structure. Following this video I now want a scraper tool and a boat....!👍😎

Thank you & thanks for noticing the change as we evolve with the vlog each week. We’re still finding our way & it’s getting better each time. It's fascinating to hear the history of the missing part of the Chateau. I'm sad that they had to sell part of it for taxes, but agree that much extra maintenance would probably be a pain. Love seeing you two reclaim the overgrown places, it must be satisfying to find those hidden spots.

18:00. I honestly never knew that I should dig down to the bulb when weeding! I always just pulled the visible roots. No wonder I spend my entire life weeding the same dang areas--hahaha!! Brilliant explanation. Thanks.
I appreciate the enormity of these projects, however, the gardener in me knows that unless the roots are dug out during the clearing out process the weeds will return very quickly! It’s good to see what it will look like in the long run, though.
(Moira Ashton) Wow! You did an amazing job of clearing the steps and wall.. good luck with all you have to do, can't wait for the next vlog, the vlogs from both of you, and Stephanie and Michael's vlogs, certainly help these lockdown days.. thank you, 💗💗
I have been watching you guys from the start of your vlog. I love how your vlog as grown and evolved. Keep up the great work. Your Chateau life is inspiring, but how you two tackle things as a couple is even more inspiring. 🏰🦚💐
That’s fantastic to hear & really sweet to comment. Working together is quicker & more motivational for sure but we both have our strengths & weaknesses, so working apart on expert projects shows progress in areas the other half would have tackled. We’re constantly learning & our videos have evolved you’d notice through that. We’re trying new things to see what works for us & how we want the video channel to look, sometimes we run out of time to do our signature bit as the internet is quite slow here. Thank you so much for being on this journey with us!!!
WOW! The jobs you two get done is amazing! I really enjoy all your videos and could listen to you both all day long! Also Phil my husband made a hauling trailer and he used tires that don't get a flat, I think there called universal tires for wheelbarrows, anyway something to think about. Thanks for the great video, cannot wait until the next one!
Yeah I love that the machine can clear up, provide mulch & nutrients & decorate the place at the base of bushes & trees. This year will be a game changer for the look of the place!!!
Dandelions are edible! I would make a salad with them 😀I love seeing the progress. It’s a shame it got torn down and is no longer symmetrical but it is a nice piece of history to talk about and I enjoyed y’all showing the picture of the current home that used the chateau’s granite with the windows and such.
Yeah that’s an incredible history here. We also discovered on the same road out friend has his wall made out of the chateau stone hehe need to plot to get it back 😂
Maybe consider building a large pergola on the side with the missing wing to give the chateau some balance and a purpose to that space. You could even mimic the roofline style. Stone or faux-stone pillars with a mansard style beamed open roof, wisteria trailing over it all......
That would be lovely you have a great vision! Phil’s adamant that wing is being rebuilt as it was to restore the symmetry and the Chateau to its former glory; that will be a fun project
I know you two haven't been married that long. And I know it's really none of mine or anyone else's business. But you two would make great parents and that would be a great place to grow up.
Angelina, please wear/use some safety goggles when using you favorite tool and mind your fingers, very impressed that your very hands on, the dry stone wall is a revelation, well done.
Hello from Chile, warning at this time of the year your should not cut such a branch, not in Spring, no crop can be done at this time. If you can wait until autumn so the tree sap is low. Winter is good too, the tree is asleep, no harm can be done... If you cut it pleas put some earth plaster, to the tree scar. Saludos keep up doing such a wonderful job at the Chateau.
Sadly that branch has to come down completely as it’s spilt so dangerous as may fall, it wasn’t possible before now as the ground was too soft to get the cherry picker in there.
In Australia we use liquid pool chlorine to remove lichen moss etc for steps, bricks, paths and roofs leaving them clean of growth then hose it down with water
He did, they were a pair hence the names, Bonnie & Clyde! We had 5 chicks last year but sadly they all died and so did Bonnie. They are free roaming so there’s only so much you can do to protect them sadly. We have another peahen for him but can’t pick up yet because of the lockdown
@@ChateauLife Ahh I did not know that, such a shame but indeed, nothing you can do about that. Thank you very much for responding and I shall continue watching your progress ( we did something similar in the south of Spain on a old finca). Lots of hard work but boy is it rewarding seeing something going from derelict to devine x
Chateau Life Stephanie now has pea chicks... I think there are 3 now...plus the parents. maybe for the next brood, she will give you a few. It’s so nice to see them wandering about, isn’t it?
I love the boat too, I’ve had it for years and it goes with the big one I still have I’m restoring; thought I would give it a relaxing time here for a while with picnics and champagne x
Do you realise that a lot of people would love to have the chance of doing this right now. I have the chance to work on a old window on my terrace in Italy. I have friend that has wife and 3 teens in a tower of apartment and can't go out (covid19). Please enjoy every minute of it, you are really lucky. I got some dirt delivered this week, it was like Xmas! lol
We realise we’re lucky every day which is why we share this place with everyone as much as possible! However when you get tired and down it doesn’t matter where you are; that’s how you feel, how quickly you pick yourself back up is what matters x
@@maisondecouture they should buy the old stones back from the house that was built with them because they belong to the chateau it would be so amazing
Haha! No, only love for each other but when you work this hard together the sarcasm is what saves you snapping at each other when the other may be gently getting on your nerves which is inevitable!
WOW! You guys are really working hard and showing great improvement. Can you please tell me what a window tax is? I think I know but I'm not really sure.
it's an old tax that used to be in place. perhaps google will explain it better but it's what we now call a council or home tax. was used to apply to the rich who could afford glass that was very expensive at the time. the more windows you had & the bigger they were the more it was & all our windows are custom sized to show off the wealth back in the day.
I'm enjoying binge watching your channel and watching your progress! I've just discovered your channel and it's so fun. Just a note about pruning trees and hedges in springtime (which I think is when you did this): you're likely to accidentally destroy the home of nesting creatures like birds and squirrels, and possibly kill their babies. Always best to wait until later in the year to take care of it, even if that's inconvenient. Cheers!
It looks like cherry pickers are required equipment for chateau owners. Phil made an excellent purchase in that wood chipper!!! It will earn its keep making mulch for your garden!
Yes they are rather useful! Here we can’t even reach the house without it to so any work because of the moat so I’d say it’s essential! It was somewhere around 1920 the other half was torn down; it’s sad but gives a good future rebuild project!
Seems there has been so many abandoned and or not taken care of , and I'm wondering why the owners walked away and left them crumbling. What's the back story for all or most of the chateaus.
It's for many reasons, they cost an absolute fortune to run and maintain so often there is no money to do that and fall into disrepair, they are not easy to sell as few people are stupid enough to buy something which needs so much work, costs so much to maintain and will never make you any money and families often inherit them then squabble over how much for its worth when offered a sale for years so they just crumble away. As an example here is one Phil wanted (still does) that has a tree growing out of one side where there is no roof, a tin roof over it, missing windows and no floors etc, properly destroyed. The woman who owns it won't sell it to him because she remembers her childhood when it was better times although she has no chance of saving it and we could; she owns it with her brother and another sister and they were desperate for us to buy it but it will sadly fall to pieces
If you want an area to be free of weeds, get a big bag of salt and spread it over the patio. Just to warn you though, it will kill all plant life, so don't use this in your garden. I had an area in my alley, that was full of weeds and I got a ticket from the town. I applied salt and nothing grew back this Spring ☺
Ohoh! Thats so high up!! 😱 should you not wear a safetyharness or something attached to the basket in the cherrypicker? (is that what that lift thingy is called?)
It’s high up from the ground where the cherry picker is but not high enough to worry where we were cutting as it’s above the wall with the cottage; safety harnesses are work when it’s needed as Phil hates heights!
What a fantastic job, the stone wall now accents the area! So beautiful. So sad to have lost a lovely part of the Chateau. Most beautiful. So pleased to have the opportunity to see your home.

Thanks for posting. Really amazing to see part of the Chateau lives on in another building.
Yeah it’s in our local town so it’s nice it stayed local and part of history not disappeared x
(Moira Ashton) Wow! You did an amazing job of clearing the steps and wall.. good luck with all you have to do, can't wait for the next vlog, the vlogs from both of you, and Stephanie and Michael's vlogs, certainly help these lockdown days.. thank you, 💗💗
Thanks for watching and your kind words x
Angelina the area and the wall are looking fabulous now
Love the intro and the music. Of course anything involving the outside and gardening, I enjoy most. Thank you for sharing your lovely life with us.
Thanks so much! The intro is new and not really perfected yet but glad you liked it; Phil was worrying about it after making it!
Angelina, my favorite gardening tool is called a matlock. It's basically like yours only much larger, so you can work standing up.
Will have to look for those tyres, would be useful on both trailers
The wood chips are great as a top layer in your garden, providing important carbon to the soil. You can also pile it for compost!
Yeah I love that the machine can clear up, provide mulch & nutrients & decorate the place at the base of bushes & trees. This year will be a game changer for the look of the place!!!
I just ordered the hand weeder-thank you for providing the link! Am enjoying the videos! 🙋♀️
Thanks so much for watching; hope you enjoy the tool!
Watching all your episodes.....have not seen your beautiful dog lighting for a while..hope he is okay
He is just camera shy!
Well that was another great video. You two are a great team.❤❤❤ looking forward to more videos. Stay safe 😁
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying them x
My goodness lot of work , its beautiful home
Love your videos, looking forward to the next one💛
Thanks so much x
I just found this channel and I already love it 😍
I like the longer videos, looking forward for the next one 😊
Thank you viviana, thanks for joining our Chateau Friends list
Dandelions are edible! I would make a salad with them 😀I love seeing the progress. It’s a shame it got torn down and is no longer symmetrical but it is a nice piece of history to talk about and I enjoyed y’all showing the picture of the current home that used the chateau’s granite with the windows and such.
Yeah that’s an incredible history here. We also discovered on the same road out friend has his wall made out of the chateau stone hehe need to plot to get it back 😂
Loving the new intro 👍🏼😁
That is fantastic the fast forward now it’s good to see it boring love it
Maybe consider building a large pergola on the side with the missing wing to give the chateau some balance and a purpose to that space.
Chateau Life - Wow, if rebuilding the wing is an option for you, that would be so great!
Love the videos keep them up!!
Thanks pethericks!
If I'm not mistaken, I think I noticed some Yew Trees there. They are very sacred trees, historically, however their berries are highly poisonous.
Ha great spot! Birds eat the berries. There’s loads of food for them naturally here.
Yes I have to, need eyes protected at all times.
I’m watching this whilst movers are loading the truck. Where is the lost wing? lol
Love this channel
Thanks for watching x
Love hearing about the history
I really love the look of the moss growing all over. I go dig up moss n try to plant it around lol
Great into!
Thank you, a little improvement & storyline of how we got here.
So glad to hear the story of the missing part of the chateau. 😘
extreme but interesting!
In Australia we use liquid pool chlorine to remove lichen moss etc for steps, bricks, paths and roofs leaving them clean of growth then hose it down with water
I love mossy stones as long as they’re not on the steps
I know what you mean but I’ve slipped down those steps in the rain before when they weren’t clear so won’t risk it again as almost broke by wrist!
Chateau Life yes l understand ,that’s what l thought ,you did a nice job cleaning them though x
What a great couple you are! Love the video .TY.
Thanks so much x
You both know the value of hard work and I hope that you are able to take time away also.
Great vlog, I love all things gardening and animals. Does your peacock have a mate? Would be nice to have a couple x
The steps look ggreat. You should plant gladiolus, iris, and daffodils along the edges.
Love your little boat.
Lots of work no matter what the tool. Can't wait to see it done and flowers growing.
I would clip the ivy at the base to disconnect it from the roots. Let It dry. Then clipping it is easier. Or use a blow torch.
rebuild the lost wing 😁
It’s the plan!
@@ChateauLife how exciting and how nice of you. can't wait
@@maisondecouture they should buy the old stones back from the house that was built with them because they belong to the chateau it would be so amazing
These 2 seem to hate each other n I love it. They always seem so annoyed with each n then try to fake being cute with sarcasm, awesome
Haha! No, only love for each other but when you work this hard together the sarcasm is what saves you snapping at each other when the other may be gently getting on your nerves which is inevitable!
Hi, you need a boat house or something for kepping the boat.
More will be revealed when the boat is launched x
Angelina is a boss with the weeds!
Yes she is so I think that should now be her full time job; I will tell her you agree thanks! X
Angelina while you were standing on the wall you should have screamed I'm the queen of the world! Lol
stairs are looking very good
amazing info on the tools and the brambles, thank you
Hope that makes your life easier, it did mine ⛏
Clyde's very clingy....cute. though I hear they like company.
@@ChateauLife very interesting. what the government can do to get more money. lol ty
Pat Bowman it’s an old tax that no longer exists...it existed in the UK also & im sure in most of Europe perhaps?
@@ChateauLife thank you so much.
Loving your gardening tools, girl!
Fascinating history!!! My dear hubby asks when it was torn down.
Yes they are rather useful!
Here we can’t even reach the house without it to so any work because of the moat so I’d say it’s essential!
It was somewhere around 1920 the other half was torn down; it’s sad but gives a good future rebuild project!
Lots of hard work! Great videos. Angelina please wear safety glasses when your working!! I would hate to see a piece of debris go in your eyes!
She has them but usually just wears her sunglasses!
Phil you don't have a poker face when you are fed up everyone can tell
Tool is called a Hula Hoe here in the US. Its a great tool.
It is so useful! Thank for giving me the US name!
@@ChateauLife oh okay great:) it was probably my fear of falling that took over the commenting 😏 😆
Really like watching your content 💛
