I know I’m late but I might have some ways to get people to make good levels 1:background: it’s what gives the level that touch. 2: idea: think of an idea for the level, for example do you want it to be a snowy tundra where your stuck in a cave and have nothing but the things around you. Or you could go with a different approach. 3:your build: people don’t like it when there’s a lot of story props, yeah sure it will take longer, but in the end it’s worth it. 4: COPY OTHER LEVELS: ok this one is a joke but you can get an idea off of Someone else’s creation, just don’t and identical. I hope this was helpful, some of what I said won’t help that many people but maybe you’ll get a clue on what to do to make a good level.
I have to say that I always loved creative parts of the games like THPS skatepark creator, making a wrestler in WWE series or TimeSplitters series mapmaker. The best thing is to start with a single idea and a theme. And from there the idea should come as a player makes them. I always had a different problem - had too many or ambitious ideas and then there was not enough memory for them :P I'd also say that it's good to make some variety but not overdoing it. So when you make a technical level, make it that way. If you're making a speed/running level then keep with that concept and ideas will come on the go. Throwing everything at once without any form of balance doesn't work. Sometimes less is more. Many small details also make a big difference, so if something looks "meh" or area of level is done sloppy then work on that bit. Add more fitting stickers or some more detailed stuff to make it interesting. The challenge should be balanced too. You don't want to make a yawn fest... You want to engage the player but making challenges cheap will only frustrate. Cheers! Haven't made a level in LBP3 yet, but I definitely gonna have some fun there after beating the story mode and getting all prize bubbles. Made a level in LBP Karting but half in the track I've used whole memory :P
Do you think its still worth attempting to make levels for this game? When I used to play it actively, I was too young to really understand the concepts and make a good, original level. Now that i'm older I would absolutely love to make some cool stuff but I feel like the community is too small to make it worth my while.
Depends what would be worthwhile to you. I still make games in LBP to show friends, to share online, or just for my own enjoyment. And I still find new games from other creators to play whenever I log in. It’s a smaller community than 2014 for sure, but people return to play often enough for it to stay afloat : ] The Dreams community has a lot of crossover too! I’d say join the LBP and/or Dreams subreddit if you want a better sense of who’s still playin.
Hmm maybe u can sketch ur level and write down ideas, plus make sure to give ur level a good interest to suck the person's brain into the game, u know what I mean.
Sometimes my game gets corrupted so every story mode item I have gets deleted, so I have to either play levels that give you all of the items or replay the story mode
I do show the entire "making of" that power-up in this video. So, while not a tutorial, feel free to follow along at 1:30 using RUclips to slow down the clip to .25 speed! 😆
Maybe you can help. Say you are making a object you can grab, like a sponge. You want that object to move from point A to point B. Question is, is how do you get the said object to go back to point A after your sack person has released the object at point B.
im so late in responding to this, but if you havent figured it out yet, and for everyone else here: attach a grab switch to the sponge, wire the switch to a piston attached to the sponge and wherever you want it to move from, tweak it to your liking, and set the piston to respond to a switch by changing direction (direction mode in the piston tweak menu)
hmm...in old games you could trigger the end point with a switch, so like if your team past a certain censor switch, it would activate the end, so if everyone died, they would spawn on the end platform. Now, I'm not sure if that still works, so you could have the same sort of thing--a censor switch--trigger a checkpoint right above the end platform so the team would fall onto it, and the game would end. That'll definitely work.
Swap to a double-life checkpoint or an infinite life checkpoint! The entrance point is treated like a single checkpoint (e.g. 4/5 lives) but you can always have another one active right after the start of the level!
The power up you've made was a great idea.
5 years later and still liking comment... Nice
Thanks for this video. Super helpful!

School Stuff it's a material you get from the create tutorials I believe
I want to know how to make a level and create an I change my background in the game little big planet three

How do you give your player more lives instead of just the 4 or 5 lives that it gives you when you creat a level?
Swap to a double-life checkpoint or an infinite life checkpoint! The entrance point is treated like a single checkpoint (e.g. 4/5 lives) but you can always have another one active right after the start of the level!
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
