Wow! I'm here just shaking my head at the talent on these guys. Virtually every one is a multi instrumentalist! And not shallow on any of them, playing with time and dynamics and... Just wow!
I am really out of words.... the combination of these instruments, musical styles + the tasteful use of incredible skills - guess I found a new obsession! Thanks Jeff for that!
@@StrateleStudios Side note: Just read a little about where he is from and it says Russia. I am so greatful to hear from this side of Russia in these brutal times over here in Europe... you can´t imagine how the war against Ukraine is changing everything over here, so scary and polarizing! And it shows again that - political wise - the past 16 years under Merkel had been a catastrophe with the "apeasement" policy -> oil+gas+coal from Putin and ignoring what he was/is doing in Syria, Georgia, Tshetshnia and now Ukraine... horrible!!!

I have about 90 Valeriy recordings about 30 of which are in Russian for the local audience and generally are more pop oriented. Been following him for about 5 years. The cellist is GUZOV and I'm pretty sure, like a lot of his Russian bandmates, was in school with him at Moscow Central Music. GUZOV plays back-up keyboard on his latest live album. Look for the Herbie Hancock cover of Butterfly about 7 years since w/ 14 y/o Albert on bass at the end and Albert also doing 4-tracks on violin. Valeriy does all his live albums in one-take but you'll hear 3 to 5 pre-recorded tracks in the background of keyboard bass (if no live bassist) keyboards, etc., If you look at his album "New Beginnings" there's a nice track w/ Marion Meadows. His main drummer and bestie is pronounced AR-KA-DEE KOR-NOV from St. Petersburg and now has been partnering with him on the most recent tracks. Martin Miller who you heard on Earthquake and Flight is in Germany, has his own rock cover band, on an interview I heard him say that he was focusing on rock as there was no money in jazz (in spite of his obvious jazz chops). When you see him on a Blue guitar, that is his signature Ibanez he did with the factory about 3 or 4 years ago. Do a search for him and you'll fine that. If you get a camera translating app for your phone you can look at the credits on the Russian tracks and see what's going on. Been very helpful to me. There's lots more to say about the side-men/soloists he picks from around the world to do remotes. but no room here. One thing for sure with Valeriy Stepanov......he never phones it in. He hears every layer before he starts laying tracks. He produces albums for his friends and Russian pop artists. But most of that is not on-line. I tell my friends: "the keyboards are his bitches". You should hear some of his classical material. I'm ex-Berklee, former teacher, manage my parents' catalog.
Awesome comment! Thank you so much for this info I really appreciate it. I’ve been messaging with Arkadiy (thanks for the pronunciation) and he’s a great guy and a fan of my Valeriy reactions. These guys are so damn good and it’s so exciting to know this music is alive and we get to hear more from all of them!
Just great!! I love that jazz-rock flavor they’ve got going a lot of the time, -they’re just tearing it up! Incredible musicianship from all these three guys, and so locked in together! And that cello sounds soo good and brings so much to the overall sound of this track, I find. Vsevolod, the cellist, is a childhood friend of Valeriy, and like so many outstanding Russian musicians, has been highly trained from an early age on, won many competitions etc. He’s a top classical player, and I love that he does this genre crossing into other styles, -probably a similar story to Valeriy and his brother, and so many other great players… Thanks for featuring that track, Jeff, that was fire 🔥

Holy Wow. The first two. I was taken to Minnie Riperton sound, then Noel Pointer and his club sounds back in the day. This band is over the top. Close your eye's and you think much more are in that band. They are tight, and have chops. Thanks this was great. 👍👍
Valeriy is easily one of, if not THE BEST improv keyboardist on the planet at this time. Plus he can play drums, bass, guitar, and sing. Then he edits all his own videos and masters all his recordings. There has never been anyone like him. Period.
EXCELLENT MUSIC Valeriy was not born on this planet, but beamed down by aliens almost above human skills, Wow those other musicians were crazy talented too 👍🏽

Part 2 - Oh, and look for the live Chick Corea Moscow performance live where he invites Valeriy on stage to do a duet. It was recorded from the audience so there are a few really bad copies. Look for the one shot from behind them on the piano. Runs about 4:10.
it's really cool you choose Valery's for the channel, when I came back in 2015 from America to the Netherlands I saw his name but I thought it was something completely different, so when the concert was over, it felt like a missed opportunity... one of my regrets till this day since i became a fan afterwards PS: he also did a song with his father with his best synth solo ever!!! link down below, love to see a reaction video about this one ruclips.net/video/DDQtIOsCkWE/видео.html

Absolutely!!! Я часто хожу на его концерты в клуб Алексея Козлова в Москве
Sometimes the talent distribution is just not fair! Lol. Like Gary Husband who played drums with level 42 and plays keyboards for John McLaughlin!
Hahaha right. I saw Gary with Alan Holdsworth and he played drums most of the gig then got up to play piano and my jaw hit the floor!
