these were the days when we knew how to play proper football, we passed teams off the park most memorably against psv and bayern. how we never qualified from these groups i'll never know because we were amazing back then.
I think its amazing that we got to the uefa cup final just with guys like Darcheville and cousin and and past the groups in 05-06 with guys like andrews and hemdani and yet this team didn't achieve anything like that it certainly reminds us that we have over-achieved in recent years

How the fuck did we never get into the knockout rounds of the Champions League under Advocaat?? We played some of the best football in Europe at the time and it beggars belief how we never got out of any of the group stages...
I was at this game and along with the Parma game... Brought hairs to the back of my head. I look through both sets of team sheets and can't see the same quality in either. Should be a great match. I can see Rangers progressing through this one.
Has to be said, rangers were a physical team there, Barry shrugging guys off McCann getting up after their keeper tried to kill him, the whole team was (and probably football in general) was better in my opinion to watch, rather than the looking for penalties and fouls that is widespread in today’s game

A few of those players really were among the best in the world. GVB especially, was one of the finest players to wear the royal blue, too.
McCann flys under the radar. What a winger he was on his day, maybe one of the best to ever do it for us and that's some company to be around.
Mols was unstoppable before his injury. In my opinion would have been up there with Laudrup and Gascoigne

This game depresses me. This was Michael Mols before he got the cruciate ligament injury against Bayern away. Wasn’t the same player after that.
