For example, in your mentioned Yoruba/Dahomey area, they have many ways to refer to it: "okpe", "jijere", "omuti ebo" etc. In my own language it's a whole different set of long phrases which indicate a variety of the process. However, this tradition is uniform throughout coastal West and Central Africa.

When the people outside shake the Zangbeto, the person inside hid in the base rim - you can kind of see lumps - and then they shake it again when it's safe to come out. I love this though and have seen ones that are super unexplainable but I want l someone to go poke the sides of these ones and stop shaking it before and after taking the lid off.
My friend said her Great Grandfather use to do this they hide in the bottom rim. No one is suppose to talk about it and is in on it and so they believe it. Her great grandfather is flexible and acrobatic. It's beautiful tradition bit it is what it is
