Perler Beads are made out of polyethylene, and in the trade are known as fusible beads designed to fuse together with a flat iron. Also known as Nabbi, Hama and Pyssia beads. The reason that there was so much bad smell (off-gassing), is because of trying to melt them quickly in the oven! Check out melting pony beads in metal cupcake pans which will also be smelly but a lot more translucent suncatchers!
they are all beautiful,I suppose the butterfly with the holes in might be able to be melted down again,,I think that you can use pony beads melted down too, my fav is the dragonfly and the pearl bird, one well done, its a great idea and could have a hole drilled in them to make jewellery or a wind mobile.👍🌹🌼🌺🌻🌸🌹i subscribed ,I want more of ur videos, great job
your very welcome, I don't suppose the microwave is a good idea,as I wondered about it but mabey a big fat NO to that idea,, I suppose the oven is the only methods of doing them sweet wrappers from roses chocolates make great beads used with their foil, just glue together the film ones cut to length and add colored foil, roll and glue or heat over a candle take care👍🌺🌼🌸🌻🐞🌹🐝
I have seen people melt these outside on metal pans in the grill or toaster oven due to the smell of the plastic. Still your molds looked interesting. I want to make house numbers so got a used toaster oven for $5 in a junk shop. But don't have beads yet. Thought I would mold tin foil into the number shapes and see how it goes. But it will have to wait for warmer weather.
Hi Nancy, was wondering if you could just pop the ones that didnt work out right back in the oven. I was hoping you would use different colors for the bugs & wings. This was fun, thanks!
hmm that sounds like a good idea how ever unless I find a toaster oven that I can use out side I am not going to melt anymore in my house it stunk so bad it wasn't funny.
I was using a sanding block from the hardware store sorry I don't know what grit as the sand paper was already on the block. But just try sand paper different grits.
I am so sorry I can not remember I will look it up and let you know. I found a video that says 250. I think I put too many beads in the molds and that is why I got the fumes. I have not done it again because of that.

I wonder if you coud put an eyelet in mould before melting beads? Would it leave a hole in there?
hmm that sounds like a good idea how ever unless I find a toaster oven that I can use out side I am not going to melt anymore in my house it stunk so bad it wasn't funny.
They are really nice
What kind are beads are you using?
what do you use to sand them with? ( is there a specific grade of sandpaper?) I tried a sandpaper block, but didn't do much.
