- Do you have Xiaomi Mijia m365? Many have! Want to stand out from the crowd? Here is the way - simple LED lights completely change the look of the scooter… and its rider. Moreover, being more visible is not only the style, it’s undoubtedly your safety.
Installing the RGB LED strip on Xiaomi m365 is not really hard in case you know what to do. Watching this video you’ll surely know. No external battery, additional holes on the frame and third party ugly buttons on your handlebar - my approach grants maximum efficiency with almost no changes in the original design of the scooter (which is great by the way!) In short, the power supply for 12V LED strip comes directly from Xiaomi’s battery while thanks to RGB WiFi controller you can operate the lights directly from your Android or iPhone via Magic Home Pro app.

Hi, thanks for positive feedback. I'm not sure I understood you correctly, but in case you're asking about thickness of the cable - 1.5 mm is more than enough. In some places I used thicker one, but there was no need of this, I just didn't have anything else at my hand.
If you're a novice like me, this is clear as mud. Love the effect though
100% novice at the moment of implementing that project, though it succeed. Now, gaining experience, I would surely add more features together with highly improving the way of idea realization. Although some upgrades were done at a later stage (and, thus, were not reflected in this video) there are still lots of things to improve. Right now I'm dealing with the other projects over "brightening" Mi scooters, otherwise the underdeck led strip would have qualitative not amateur improvement.

I have a question : I already Have a T cable (splitter) because I have an external battery. Is it possible to add another T cable on the T cable to keep my external battery and the led ? So the installation would have 2 T cables. Thanks
Hi, I don't use external battery, so I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. But in case you use T cable for connecting BMS with two batteries, so it's possible to add another T cable to power the leds. However in my opinion it's not the best solution. I would recommend to change your T cable (1 to 2) with 3-way cable (1 to 3). How about gps, do you need a fuse if we connect with rechargeable gps .
You need a fuse for any external device connected to scooter's battery so as to protect scooter's electronics from short circuit. Not obligatory, but highly recommended.

Hi, thanx for positive feedback. No, unfortunately I don’t have links, everything was bought from local shops to avoid long term delivery. But I can tell you specs, so you can find the same products in online stores. RGB Strip - smd 5050, 60 leds per 1 meter, 12 Volts, 12-14 Watts per 1 meter. WiFi Controller - ZJ-MW-RGB (or similar RGB controller, there is no big difference). Here is the controller’s manual app.magichue.net/WiFiGuide/ZJ-MW-RGB.pdf
Is it ws2815b type of led?
Nope, this kit worked not on addressable LEDs (when it was created addressable LEDs of WS series were quite rear, ws2812 was just entering the market). However these days even ws2815b is already an old-school. If you are opting for this lighting upgrade it's better to go with COB LEDs (they're brighter, don't have black spots, have a better overall look and thinner with up to 2mm width).
I'd like to have some simple red led stripes that turn on when the scooter is on, or at most with a single button to turn them on and off. Do you have a scheme for something like this?
I do, but just partly. 1) In order to turn on the lights together with turning on the scooter you have to connect them to BMS. I haven't done this and I'm not planning, but I've seen special board for this on one Russian forum electro.club/f/123362. You can contact the guy who created it and order the board. 2) In case you are OK with turning on the lights manually, have a look on my upgraded scheme drive.google.com/file/d/1pC2CbVwrVqit-ZaRCGn89GJCejIpjUIJ. It's both for RGB led strip & extra rear/front lights (two wires like in case of single color strip). The scheme is divided in 3 steps, you need to follow only step 1 & step 3, while in step 3 you should use your one color led strip instead of mentioned there rear/front lights. Also keep in mind that you can use another voltage step down converter according to specs of your strip, mine is 60W / 5A/ 20-75V to 12 V. The details about 12V Bluetooth relay, which I'm using to turn on/off the lights remotely from my phone (BlueSPP app on Google Play), can be found on manufacturer's website www.chinalctech.com/cpzx/1/334.html. If needed 5V Bluetooth relay is also available. In case you prefer mechanical button, I can't help you, as I don't like this option and have never used it. Hope it's helpful.

I tried this with all the same equipment in the description but Everytime i plug the power adapter to the wifi controller my buck convertor goes from output of 12volts to either zeros or i can't turn the voltage up anymore but I followed everything you have done? This is the converter I'm using DC to DC Voltage Regulator 4-40V to 1.5-35V Buck Converter with LED Display
In case you use Dc-Dc 4-40 v to 1.5-35 v the equipment is not the same and I guess that's the problem. I've recommended to use the converter that can deal with up to 50 v of input voltage (LM2596HVS or similar), because the voltage of m365 battery can reach 41 v and it's too much for 40v converter. I suppose the overvoltage damaged your converter and you need a new one. While buying a new one have a look also on Ampers. The power consumption of 1.5 meter rgb strip (12v, 60 leds per 1 meter) is 21 Watts, so 2 Amper (24 Watts) converter is enough, but I would recommend to use 3 Amper (36 Watts) converter as there is a chance that one day you will connect to it additional lights or smth. else. For instance at the moment I'm using Fulree converter (DC-DC 20-75 v to 12 v, 5A, 60W), but I need it not only for rgb strip, but also for extra rear lights and quite powerful front lights.

@@MrHAYES-bu3oy unfortunately I haven't found anything neither on Amazon nor on Ebay (US warehouse), something similar to mine was only on Walmart (the link is below). However before buying you should keep in mind that in order to place the converter in the tube its width shouldn't exceed 4 cm, while Fulree converters generally are wider (about 4.5cm). You say it connects via wifi, but what happens when you are not at home (far away from the router)? Or does it connect directly from phone to the m365?
Good question and THAT'S THE POINT!!! It can work without router (while sellers of the device in general don't know about this feature). The controller actually is a router itself, you're connecting to it directly from the phone just like you connect to your home/office router. As you see on video I've operated the lights directly on the street, there was no any wifi hotspot nearby. The external router with internet connection is needed ONLY in case you prefer voice control option that works via cloud servers of Google Home, Amazon Alexa etc. Here is the manual of RGB wifi controller, check paragraph "С) 1 to1 Mode" in the "Instructions" section on page 6: app.magichue.net/WiFiGuide/ZJ-MW-RGB.pdf

How do you switch on and off the light? Through the phone app also? Or when the scooter is turned on, the lights will turn on also?
Hi. Only via app, as in my case the LED controller is not connected to the scooter's "computer", only to the battery to get the power. Actually it's possible to interconnect them, google it if needed. But keep in mind that turning off the LED controller you will reset some of its settings (e.g. your custom password) to factory defaults. In my case the LED controller is always ON, so I need just a few seconds to connect to it via phone and to turn on/off the lights. The minus is that controller "eats" the battery even when the lights are off, about 0.5% per hour.

Where did you purchase this from? And its cost?I wonder if this mod is possible on zero 8 scooter.
There is no ready set of this kind you can buy in the stores, only more simple versions with IR control & powerbank. In my case I bought every part separately in Greek stores (30-40 euros all together), but on Ebay or Ali you can find everything two-three times cheaper. Names & photos of each detail are provided in the scheme (link in the description). Regarding Zero, I'm not sure, but by logic this set is suitable for any scooter that has built-in battery and enough free space inside the deck. In order to use less space you can use the fuse without its huge case, smaller version of step down voltage converter and not to use XT60 connectors at all, connecting wires directly to each other.

Hi Alberto. From the first look nothing will happen, because everything will work as it should. BUT in case of short circuit there is a chance not only your LED lights / controller / step-down regulator etc. will be burned, but the scooter itself will be damaged too (let's say BMS or battery). So the fuse is a must have part of the scheme. In fairness it should be noted that there was no short circuit in LED lights scheme shown in the video till now, but it's better to have the fuse just to be on the safe side.

Will these fit on a gotrax gxl v2?
No sure. It was created especially for Xiaomi m365 and was not tested on any other scooter. To fit LED controller and step-down voltage regulator from this project scooter's battery compartment should have at least 6cm x 4cm x 3cm free space. However, the sizes can differ depending on scooter's battery voltage: in case the voltage of Gotrax's battery differs from the specs of Xiaomi you will probably need another step-down voltage regulator that can be bigger (or smaller) in sizes.

Everything except the lights wifi lights changer if u have thoes projector lights 12-80v then u need to buy just xt30 conectors fuze adjustable dc to dc and wires and some heat shrink it comes to 28$ usd without wire thats a couple of dollars more
What about controlling the lights? As soon as the wifi controller is out of the game, you need another wireless control device to activate/deactivate the lights. I've installed the front lights you're talking about and used a Bluetooth relay controlled via phone app. However, it's not the best option, relay was working good only in winter, in summer it's getting overheat and worked with problems. So I took it off and connected everything to wifi controller. Now I have just one color on the strip, but it works together with front and rear lights.
Slim Rom just conect the 12-80volt angel eye to your circut instead of led strips set the voltage to 30-35v how u whant and connect a switch in between the light and dc to dc controller about the wifi switch it doesent allow more than 12-24 volts so i cannot give power to my light more than 24v but i whant to put 30v or more to the light so its much brighter than on 24v

However in both cases you’ve mentioned there is a need of placing additional wires thoroughout the scooter, they’re harming its design (IMHO), that’s why I prefer wireless options. By the way I wouldn’t recommend to use the switch from the provided link in case you have lights with several modes (headlight + angle eye). This switch has just two wires (+/-), while lights with several modes need 3 wires (+/+/-).

Your DC-DC converter constantly connect to battery, it eating energy every time, more or less.
This is not so good for battery storage, if you using scooter time to time.
Yeap, you are totally right. Dc-Dc shown on the video takes 0.5% of battery per hour (12% per day). At the moment I use another one that consumes 4% per day - check model details in comments. Any idea how to make it 0% without interconnecting led strip with BMS + without adding external physical buttons?
@@LightSideTech I see only one way - set transistor between dc-dc and battery. Signal for open transistor we may take from motor controller. Maybe directly, maybe - from hall sensors line (sensors should have constant +5v or +12v when scooter is on)

May be one day I'll try it too if no other way is found (about 6 months ago I've installed also front & rear lights, and due to this all the lights including led strip are controlled through Bluetooth relay via smarthpone app; RGB controller also in use, but now it gets power not directly from DC-DC, but from the relay).
