- It’s that time of year where our mares are DONE with their children, and we help them out by weaning!
We wean with the signs from the farmer’s almanac, and it truly helps with the transition!

Petey was like why r u sticking me in her with this animal
Ok everyone saying she needs to consider a different method doesn’t know her or what she’s tried. I know plenty of horses who’ve been weaned cold turkey (I own a mare who I guarantee was weaned that way) and she’s just fine. I will agree some foals are better off than others and will react better than others. There are so many factors that should be considered, colts can breed back to their dams, mares can loose weight, mare may not be producing enough milk, the foal may be stealing all the dams hay, etc.
I have a foal that my vet said to wean at 3 months if my mare wasn’t gain and retaining weight because of her health. Vets won’t geld colts until a minimum of 6 months old but if you have a 3-4 month old Colt mounting his mare constantly there could be the possibility of him breeding his mare (which is a disaster waiting to happen genetically). Criticizing someone based off of another RUclipsr (who as far as I know has never bred a mare or bought a mare and foal combo) isn’t fair. You don’t know what conversations she’s had with her vet about weaning so you can’t judge. When I asked my vet about weaning my Colt he never suggested a method just a time period.
My suggestion is to stick to your own business, educate yourself, and talk with your vet if your trying to wean a foal. Judging someone based of a 1-30 minute video isn’t fair. Do your own research and let others be. Harassing and repeating information (without doing your own thorough research and being able to provide said person with the research) will not make someone change if they don’t want to.
When are colts becoming fertile?
@@Dojan50 6 months is the youngest I’ve heard of.
If it works for you and it is the only method you know doesn't mean it is right for the foals. Nothing wrong with a little research and more consideration for the horses.
@@margretemargrete11 research and consideration is great until you don’t have the means to do that. Again you can’t judge what she has done without being there 24/7. Which no one on this platform has as none of us are close friends or family. We are not her vet either.
Penelope looked l like at tge end "YOU PUT ME IN HERE WITH THESE INFANTS, AND THEY ARE BOYS!!"
I think the way and time that the weaning with these foals was perfect, I always wean my foals ar 4-5 months, and they are much better to work with and the moms need to have their time back.
I cried right along with you. Wonderful to have a good easy birth. We will always love and remember Cool and her baby. ❤😢❤
Fin wants his momma and making Petey nervous. He was like I don't wanna go in the stall with this crazy horse. Bless their hearts. Penelope is sure the boss.
Winston...what a guy!!!
Peter is my favorite this year. I think he's going to make someone a great horse. Mild mannered and slow and kind.
Bo lookin at Fin like "dude calm down its not that bad"
17:01 her peeing forever!!😂 I laughed out loud. Thanks for sharing!!
Bless there hearts❤
All 3 are beautiful
My mom always used the Farmers Almanac when gelding.
Penelope is gorgeous!!!
As much as I adore your love for your foals, this is not a proper way of weaning. There is no “one good way” of weaning of course, but putting them away like that and in a confined space causes a lot of stress to them, and that stress lasts. Unfortunately, horses are easy to be traumatised and we want to limit this as much as possible ❤ the foals show visible distress. Before you ask me how long I have been breeding, I work at breeding facility for years now, the breeding facility is breeding for about 4-5 generations by now and has around 20 foals per year, I also consult and work with foals at different facilities where there are 1-5 foals a year, sometimes more. I’ve seen A LOT and I worked with hundreds of foals at this point. The difference is huge. Many people don’t understand just how huge and how many behaviours later in their life are caused by it. Please at least do your own research and consider other methods.
All the best to you and your horses ❤
Petey might have been a lil more chill but Finn was a bit spicy lol😂
My fav part of your videos, is just how much you love all your critters, Though I have to confess Beau and Rooster are my favorites,
You are living the exact life I would have if it would have been possible! We had horses and babies all my life at home with my parents and I had a few horses after I married, but this is heaven to me! I love living vicariously through your daily life ! You are so blessed sweet girl and I know you know that! Your content makes me so happy on a daily basis!! ❤️❤️🐴 🐷 🐐 🫏 🐮
I ❤ Bo!
Petey said "nuh-uh he crazy"
Trudy makes some majestic offspring! I forget her bloodline. I'll have to go back and look unless someone remembers?
Hot N Blazing x Miss Kat Tails is Trudy’s parents.
@@holamichaela11 Thank you!
Penelope has definitely inherited Trudy's hay hairstyle. It seems like every video lately she has so much in her mane HAHA
Katie you have some beautiful babies there!!! 🐴🐴🐴
Petunia won’t get up, but you only use Poppy’s full Government Name😂😂
Winston is the main character!!!
Winston is there for the drama
Poor Petey didn't want no parts of Phin's bullshit. 😄
Seeing poppy n petunia run reminded me of step brothers when they had their own room n they were like now we have so much room to exercise 😂 ❤
I never knew mini cows could move that fast on those little legs. Great zoomies ladies. ♥️😁
My grandma had me using the Farmers almanac to wean, potty training, EVERYTHING for my kids and it never failed! 😂
Sure, superststion works everytime!!
Those babies are so precious ❤❤❤Looks weaning went pretty well 😊Poppy & Petunia are such spunky babies and don’t seemed at all bothered by the goats 🐐 😊
Katie I enjoy watching all your videos.
Penelope is massive 😂😂
Winston just kills me.
😂 Petunia aka Speed Bump
6:30 the foals were coming through the stall window and going nuts? I mean..
I can't believe what a stinker Finn is.....he's a bit spicy, that one 🤭😜 I can't believe how he attacked you 😳
Everybody is saying this is so stressful on them. They don’t look at all stressed. Once all the foals were together, they looked as happy as can be. And we didn’t see as much of the moms but they didn’t seem bad either, from what we saw.
My favorite so far with Winston butt scratches and mini cows races!!😂😂❤️❤️
I’m so thankful you shared this! The real & raw♥️
Petey was like ”umm, don’t but me with him - he seems crazy!”
Gotta stay the full name to get them to move 😂😂❤
I can never get over how Miss P TOWERS over the boys😂 such poise she has though👑
Penelope is sooo gorgeous ❣️❣️❣️The boys are beautiful too❣️
They are so big already ❤ im early for once also.. 😅
Next Stop, Cross Tie Class
This is very much not how my barn does it, and their foals and moms are much more chill and seem pretty well-adjusted. I'm a bit concerned about the confined space, with all of them freaking out and running on top of each other? Would it be possible to have a different non-mom adult nearby, a horse they're familiar with, there to help them feel less alone and afraid? Kind of like an aunt or uncle to just be nearby and when they see that that horse is calm, maybe they'll be more calm? I'm just a hobby rider but I feel like that might make things easier for them, emotionally. And less dangerous if they're not flailing and running and thrashing inside a stall. :S
Did you literally not watch the video where the old gelding is put into the run?
did you skip the part where she actually put her old horse Bo outside the stall so the babies could touch nose with him and be more calm? I'm not defending her ways of doing things but pay attention before commenting
It's already been commented, but they did have another older horse there to calm them down. Bo is always put with the babies to calm them down. Katie's family have been doing this for years. And these little babies are happy and healthy. They had a stressful day or two, but are now okay. Instead of dragging it out and putting them through several days of trauma like others have suggested. This is the method Katie's family have used for a long time, and it works for them.
Ikr
They have another horse into there so they will stay calm. She said bo was going to be a comforting friend.
He’s gonna throw a fit😂 his color is so pretty, I know nothing about horses 🫣
❤❤im new to your channel and so happy 🎉i found you!!❤❤
I really love your content 💕 You are a really great teacher, very clear and extremely easy to understand ❤ Your very well spoken, charming and beautiful ❤ thank you for sharing your beautiful animals ❤️ 😊
I love how well you do this. Seeing a barn do it poorly and then seeing how well you care for your horses. Ignore the people that are jerks. Love seeing how much you care.
Katie Finn is so beautiful!!
That Loading was AMAZING! Great Job Girls, Ya"ll
I think they're saying there's no way in hell we share the same mother
Aww, they’re so precious! ❤️
It’s just like a first day of school for the little ones, especially since they’re being weaned in September 🐎💖✨
Omg I LUV THIS BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
You have the most amazing farm and cutest animals..I ❤️ them all..Wish I was closer to help you out
Winston!!!
I couldn't help myself but I love Winston ❤️
He was sneaking up!🐽
Offering his support for the event 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Poppy and petunia are just soooo cute and funny 😂❤
Loved this video! I don’t think I have ever seen Winston so mobile. I think he knew the camera was rolling. A real ham! 🤣🤣🤣Getting to see all your beauty horses, cute mimi cows and goats all in one video was wonderful. Can’t wait for the next!
I think that’s the first time we’ve ever heard Mrs. Katie curse! 😮 warranted yes but I love the babies ❤
Winston twerking was peak video gold. Second was Phin going batshit because you dared try to take his mama away. I swear it’s like the boys are the ones who are codependent with their mamas lol.
finding humor and down playing terrified foals....
Hey Winston!
Some day i hope to be a horse girl just like you and im so grateful for the videos you do! Thank you for showing what its like and making me feel like im part of the group! ❤
Praying that weaning can somehow be less stressful for the babies going forward if possible... Love all your animals ❤️
That’s a heifer 😂
Petey says nope hes crazy im mot going in there
Petey was like I am not going in there with that crazy boy😂😂
Dude this is actually so sad poor finn this seems so mentally damaging to just rip their moms away
Phin was dramatic when his mama had to go get her foot looked at, that’s just his personality. He was pacing for about a day before he didn’t care anymore
@@ramya2924 but wouldn't slow weaning just be easier and safer for everyone?
@sign9179 Phins mom can't go out into the big pasture, so this is the only way to wean for her. The other moms were fine right away after being separated. I think there isn't a right or wrong way to wean; it just depends on the horses. Also, she usually does it in smaller batches when they reach 7ish months. She just didn't have as many foals this year, so she did them all at once so they won't be alone.
i dont think there is any other way as one of the mums has a injury
@@ramya2924 I feel like we shouldn't be playing it off as him being "Dramatic". This is one of the most stress educing and traumatic experiences he will ever experience.
Petunia is beaty and is grace 😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing, you are a great narrator 😊they are all so adorable but that Winston is so chilled and cute.
Appreciate all you do! I've learned so much thank you!
Hi Winston!!!
Have you learned how not to wean, due to physically induced stress? Stress that can create an impact genetically for the rest of their life. Introducing foals after weaning is unnecessary on a farm with several mare and foal pairs.
@@Ketowski Over the years I have learned that people in the horse community are very passionate about there animals. I respect opinions. I am not here to criticize. I'm here to keep an open mind and enjoy the content.
Have you seen this from Raleigh Link?

Love that Winston ❤
wow this is so amazing
Petey is like I'm not going in there with him🤣🤣
Omg how small are these cows😂. Are highlanders? This looks like a start of a mini zoo 😂. I hope your partner is prepared for your next tiny animal 😂.
Petey was like, "Man! I don't want to go in there with that crazy kid!"
Wooo
Winston is just the best! Never enough of that cute little boy 🐖
Love your videos 😁😁
Ok this may be a stupid question but are mane and tails of horses, is the reasoning behind some of why some have shorter or longer mane's and tails a genetic thing, like passed down from mare to foal? Is it a breed of horse thing? Or a combination of both?
Some people cut them
Please can you explain the Farmers Almanac?? xx
Katy I absolutely love your laugh/giggle.. Also your mini farm is my life goal! 😍
I love Winston’s cameos lol also the guy who helps you with the horses in the video is amazing! He’s so in control and calm with the horses
❤
I'm just glad Finn missed the boobs with those flying hooves
Maybe another method would be less traumatic for the mares and foals?
While others may disagree, this truly can be the least traumatic when done properly. These foals are chill, happy citizens far sooner than those who have their weaning process dragged out. Like I said in the video, there are multiple methods. This is what works for us, and it’s been proven time and time again.
Don’t you love the Internet and all its opinions
@@katievanslykelife Well the multiple studies and research disagree with you.....
@@EquineQueen13its her horses, she knows theyre personality and she knows whats best for them, it doesnt matter what studies have shown, its her choice.
@@Charlie.Bell3 Just because " She knows her animals" doesn't mean it's any less abusive. It's like a person who declaws a cat or debarks a dog saying it's fine because they know their animal.
OMG! From the weaning video I saw on fb it looked like there was no issue at all! Loved to see more of trying to get them into the stall.
I also love the where’s my momma but also who dis? 🤣🤣
0:53 Winston cameo
You need apple trees so that way you'll have apples for the horses
Can I come to the KVS mini petting zoo. 😂
I know this isn’t about Winston but he cracked me up! He’s such a cute “little” pig lol. Also Bo is like “hi. I’m here….again” lmao 🤣 Bo is the best they could ask for!
❤❤
11:42 Penelope is huge, compared to the boys, Finn & Peter. Gorgeous but big girl❤
Prinsass Penelope
The worst way to wean foals they much less stressful and kinder ways than this.
Poor things.
People love giving animals human emotions. It doesn't hurt the babies
It stresses them out, do you not see the visible signs in the video??
Yes it does
Stress isn’t a emotion only humans have, the fact that she prematurely gives ulcer guard bc she expects health problems due to her method should tell you everything about how terrible that method is
Gradual weaning is way more humane
0:52 the fact that she has no shame when saying that! ⚔️⚔️ HORSES ARE LIVING ANIMALS! imagine being ripped away from your mom only after a couple Months! 🫶🫶😭😭😭❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
You’re right. Horses are ANIMALS. They are not humans. Don’t put human emotions on to an animal. Animals can’t stay on the teat forever. Look at more videos and see how well the babies are doing now.
Nahhhh, we good right here, mama! 😆
For those who have no clue. Me. Why do goats faint?? I can google it. But. This is so fun watching
only fainting goats faint and its as a form of defense. Almost like possums.
