I would love to see a TV series out of the X-Wing novels. Janson's antics with Ketch being a highlight. Corran was my favorite among the Rogues and Kell and Face a favorite among the Wraiths.
6:33 Karie Neth?!! I remember her from the Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 Rogue Leader videogame. There Wedge and Rogue Squadron liberated her and a bunch of prisoners from that asteroid prison on the mission Prisoners of the Maw. I didn't know she became a Rogue member!
It's a shame Disney has YET to capitalize the Rogue Squadron name and characters in books, movies or tv series. Hopefully one day they will. A lot of people like the pilots and soldiers who fought in background.
With Rouge One right around the corner and how this movie really shows how out gunned the Rebels really where, how about doing a video on how big the empire really was. Number of world controlled, number of capital ships, estimated number of people who served then empire, ect ect.
well, the deathstar had a crew of a million (including troops, officers, and enlisted personnel, TIE pilots), the Super class Star Destroyers (of which several were built) had a crew of 250,000, the empire apparently had 25,000 Imperial Class Star Destroyers with 35,000+ crew and troops (800,000,000+ people just on those ISDs), and there were several other classes of Star Destroyer as well as other ships, so the Imperial navy alone must have had 1 billion+ personnel, and that is a conservative estimate.
The Imperial Navy had more soldiers in it than we have on Earth. 25,000 Star Destroyers with tens of thousands of crew each, and Star Destroyers are the rarest ship in the Navy. There were millions if not billions of TIE Fighters, and at least hundreds of thousands of Corvettes, Frigates, and etc.
Fun fact: Wald, seen at 5:49 was a subtle self-insert and self-portrait of comics artist Walt Simonson, who worked on the Star Wars comic and who slipped himself in. He's best known for not only doing Star Wars comics, but for telling the most impressive stories of the hero Mighty Thor - the Thor movies have been based on comics Simonson did (Walt was even given a cameo in the Mighty Thor movie).
The first rogue squadron graphic novel was the first book, Star Wars merchandise, and graphic novel I personally bought so it holds a special place in my heart
Been close to 20 years since I read a lot of the books, but I vaguely remember something about luke skywalker always retaining the title "rogue leader" even when he only flew with them randomly after he became a jedi. it was like an honorary title always reserved for him if he was around . that's why wedge always went by rogue one when luke was around.
I so enjoyed the Xwing series books as well. Corran Horn ended up being just about my favorite character in all of Star Wars. Most of my character names in SWG and SWTOR had some kind of a play on his name. Thank you for the video.
Wow, what an impressive compilation. I appreciate and recognize the work that went into making this list. Thank you for this and it has only bolstered my interest in Star Wars legends books.
8:19 *"Xarcce Huwla, (Which is a name I'm sure I just butchered.) joined-''* Laughing uncontrollably. I love how cool you were during that. Just admit the the butcher and move on. Nice work man, loved this one! Always been curious about the Rogues.
I just got around to reading the x win series, corren actually turns down Luke at first to join the Jedi for training and stays with rogue for a little longer, great reads
Wedge really gets nowhere near the recognition he deserves. wasnt he originally in the final shot of ROTJ movie? Ya know at the ewok celebration shot...and i mean the original theatrical version. because when i saw it in theaters all those years ago, i remember him being in that final shot with luke, leah, lando, han, chewie & the droids. I do have am amazing (fan made) de-specialized, original theatrical trilogy downloaded from my private torrent site. He remastered it himself and it is by far the best trilogy version! I must go back and see if he was originally in that shot or not tonight when i get home. cause dammit! Wedge deserves it!!! lol sorty..he was always one of my favorite characters
Couple nitpicks here 1. Elscol Loro didn't resign from the squadron, Wedge kicked her out for being too reckless. 2. Tycho actually let himself be thought of a traitor to root out the Imperial agent in Rogue Squadron. 3. You forgot Emtrey.
rogue squadron was at the battle of endor but wedge changed it's name to red squadron for the battle to honor the pilots who attacked the first death star
8:19 - "Xarcce Huwla, which is a name I'm sure I just butchered..." I wouldn't worry about it, given the _Star Wars_ tradition of people seeming to have multiple pronunciations for their names. (eg Han being pronounced like _Dawn_ or _Man_.) A tradition I was most happy to find continued in _Star Wars: The Old Republic_. :-)
It's a good thing that the X-Wing novels and comics are still readily available. I only recently read the comics after picking up the Marvel TPBs. Finally closed that gap in my Legends knowledge. :]
For me the top five star wars games are listed like this 1. Star wars rogue squadron (n64) 2. Star wars rogue squadron 2 : Rogue leader 3. Star wars rogue squadron 3 : Rebel strike 4. Star wars battlefront 2 (2005) (pc) And finally 5. Star wars battlefront (2015) (ps4) I am actually playing as most star wars battlefront right now but my favorite game is just rogue squadron
Tesko 250 If we are lucky on the next Battlefront 2, we could get fighter/space craft similar to Rogue Squadron. Then I could finally get the Star Wars game I have always wanted. As for the original Battlefronts, played them on PS2 and put so many hours in to unlock everything, same with Rogue Squadron.
CWDTrixie in rogue squadron n64 when you got gold medals in every level you could use all ships in every level i still have the rogue squadron games :D
The Rogue Squadron stuff are my favorite parts of the Star Wars universe. I love the games and the novel series...I think i read up to the formation of the Wraiths lol. I hope they flesh out Rogue Squadron in canon in the future.
...was Tycho defect from the Imperial?...if not mistaken, he flew an A-wing along side with Lando into the Death Star before spliting up in ROTJ?...just curious...
Rogue squadron was created remember the strike team called rogue one, The members of red squadron and gold squadron died during the trench run of the Death Star, Luke skywalker wedge Antilles and a surviving gold squadron pilot to blew up the Death Star that’s how rogue squadron was after the battle of Yavin 4
Cool vid, but I have to point out an inaccuracy: Dak was not killed at the Battle of Hoth by a weapons malfunction (the "malfunction in fire-control"), but was killed when the aft part of their snow speeder was struck by an AT-AT laser blast.
Totally agree, the X-Wing series is the very best Legends has to offer, I even rate it above the Thrawn trilogy and that is saying a lot. I always imagined the book-series was a perfect fit for a live-action HBO series, some good casting and directing there and you'd have a classic TV-series on par with all the other SciFi TV greats... with Wraith squadron a perfect spin-off ready to go.
just curious where you got the names for the squadron during Hoth? Way how I read it was that the rogues had 6 speeders, not 12. the 12 members of the squadron formed teams. As in Luke was (normally) rogue 1, Dak was rogue 2, Zev was rogue 3, his gunner was rogue 4, wedge was rogue 5 and 2nd flight leader, Wes Janson was rogue 6 and so on
Wait, you didn't mention Kasan being a former Imperial pilot. She was the leader of the 128th TIE Interceptor squadron before her vehicle was disabled and captured by the Alliance
Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed the X-Wing series as well. However, I don't think we are going to see Rogue Squadron in canon in this way ever again. Already in Life Debt, we see the formation of Phantom Squadron by Wedge Antilles, which is obviously a throwback to Wraith Squadron, but also could be referencing the Phantom from the new Rebels series. It doesn't seem like Rogue Squadron as an entity survived the Battle of Endor or perhaps even of Hoth since those call signs aren't used at Endor. The other reason is that I think there will be relative peace after the Battle of Jakku. The reason we had the X-Wing books was because it still took several years in Legends for the Rebel Alliance to become the New Republic, and then we didn't see much of them after that until the subsequent Yuuzhan Vong and Second Galactic Civil Wars. I think we'll see Phantom Squadron flying in the Battle of Jakku, and then perhaps its retirement. It's possible that we could see another conflict between the Battle of Jakku and the formation of the Resistance, so it's possible that you could see them in action again with Snap Wexley in the lead, but we'll just have to wait and see. I would actually like to see a book or two about Black Squadron in the Resistance. I thought that it would be great to see Stackpole or Allston come back and do something like that when I heard Zahn was returning for the Thrawn novel. We are already starting to see it in the Poe Dameron comic series, but I would like to see more.
Sooner or later some of the Rogues who were in the original trilogy in Legends will be canonized in to Canon. Just like the group of Jedi younglings the Bear Clan also known as the Mighty Bear Clan (that's just adorable) in Attack of the Clones.
If they make some canon Rogue Squadron stories, I hope they stick to a smaller, consistent team, with some of the more popular characters along with maybe some new ones.
Most of them have been retired though grey group took on 4 ewok recruits who tried to avenge their planet's destruction by commandeering 2 rebel fighters to take on 47 imperial cruisers. The rescue mission was aborted
Actually, perhaps Rogue Squadron will be the air support for Rogue One that we've seen? Like Rogue One is a commando unit and Rogue Squadron is an Ace unit?
fredro76 Piggy was a Gammorean, who was part of a Warlord Zsinj project which made him a mathematical genius. Ketch started out as Wes Jansen screwing with Wedge when he was interview candidates for the Wraiths.
Great video glad to see that someone else loves the Legends Rouges as much as I do. The X-wing books are the thing that made me a die hard eu fan.I am very saddened by the lack of them in the new eu but I guess it is good cause now the only real legacy for the Rogues is the Legends one. Sometime down the line would you do a vid on the pilots of the Wraith Squadron?
I don't believe Rogue Squadron changed their name back to Red Squadron for the Battle of Endor. In a military point of view, mounting such a large scale assault, it would've been needlessly drawn out and time consuming to say the name of each squadron. In the movie we hear leaders reporting in, "Red leader, standing by. Green leader, etc." I believe they would've assigned a number of squadrons to each color coordinated group. Red group, (which would probably include Rogue Squadron) was the main attack group, led by Wedge. Green group probably might've been assigned as cover for the cruisers. Gold leader, I assume is the mission leader, like how Red group flew cover for Gold Squadron (Y-wings) in the Battle of Yavin.Just a possibility. Awesome vid though!
Red Group, Gold Group all fighters on me.-Lando. (It was Red Group not Squadron at Endor). Red Squadron was used in Isard's Revenge, when Wedge and company were training in TIE Defenders.
Can you EXPLAIN why Mother Talzin, after being killed by separatist droids, is able to resume an effective physical presence in a Season 6 Clone Wars episode (and battle with Mace Windu)? Is this something Kenobi and Anakin could do? Could we see them come back in Episode 8? What is happening!!!!!
The rogue squadron books in legends were just so great, definitely my favourite series of books.
I know Im quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to watch newly released movies online?
@Simon Aaron flixportal :P
@Yusuf Brecken thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!
@Simon Aaron no problem :D
And Wraith Squadron was pretty cool too!
I actually talked with Michael Stackpole about his characters. He based their personalities on WW2 fighter pilots he interviewed.
You should do a video on Wraith Squadron. They were like the Mission Impossible of Star Wars.
This is frickin' awesome. Placed back-to-back it is surprising just how many people have been in Rogue Squadron through it's history.
Wedge is the best pilot. He gets no recognition for destroying the second Death Star.
It's on his starfighter's kill tally, which has to measure in squadrons, and is framed by two Death Star hemispheres.
Lando Calrissian had a better press agent.
Prove me wrong.
We memoralised wedge in the creed.
@@doughesson ...Savage! 😂😝😂
Zev is the best
He gets no recognition for saving luke and han

That was old Star Wars unfortunately. It's never coming back :(

I don't think it was ever officially stated, but it would have to be trillions of soldiers, and literally countless civilians.
well, the deathstar had a crew of a million (including troops, officers, and enlisted personnel, TIE pilots), the Super class Star Destroyers (of which several were built) had a crew of 250,000,

He was technically a Hawkbat.
He's in Wraith Squadron ;)
