    That sunrise was amazing! Don't think in my 80 years I have ever seen one so beautiful.
    I also love graveyards as did my mother and grandmother. I have always found them interesting and just like you, I always imagine what the person was like and how their lives were ❤

    I also love old cemeteries. We have a small one and it has many stones from the 1800's - some of which have been damaged mostly by weather. My husband and I will be buried there as is my grandmother and son. There are many graves from the Civil War - lots of children also (due to illnesses). I've been told that it got its start when a horse thief got caught and was hung from a tree. The tree is now just a stump. We live in SW Missouri and actually are on the original "Trail of Tears". The Butterfield Stage Route also came through here, so after moving to Missouri in 1988 I became an avid history buff. Love the progress that already been done.

    • @HoneyAppleFarm
      @HoneyAppleFarm  9 дней назад

      Oh wow! I've heard about folks having a cemetery on their property but have never met one. No wonder you become so interested in history! The children gravestones are always sad; the ones that died in their childhood (5-12 or 13) are the hardest, I think, because they aren't babies at that point but aren't grown up either.
      I haven't heard about the Butterfield Stage Route. That sounds most intriguing!

    I am hesitant to mention but please take a look at the post holding up the porch under where the stove was sitting. It seems strange that only the slanted tip of the support post is making contact with the bottom of the porch. Should that be checked out?
    I live about 50 miles southeast of Tulsa. Today is 11/13/24 and we have yet to have had a frost. To my knowledge we have not even had a temperature reading in the low 40’s yet. Most trees still have very green leaves on them. Unusual year!
    Enjoying watching your renovation of your beautiful old home.

    • @HoneyAppleFarm
      @HoneyAppleFarm  9 дней назад

      We were told that the porch supports would settle over the first few months, so that's definitely what has happened to the post in that corner. It's on my list to re-check!
      That is unusual for Tulsa! We lived there from Oct. 2020 - June 2023, and my picture memories have been showing me "memories" of fall tree pictures I took in early November. I remember thinking how weird it was for the trees to turn in late October/November when I was used to trees turning in Sept or October.

      Awww, thanks Ms. Agatha. It certainly is satisfying to see the changes (unlike, say, electrical wiring, which is also helpful but not as fun to look at!) Where in WV are you, if you don't mind my asking? We looked at WV as a possible relocation destination before NY.

      @@MsAgatha1Eta I love that you spent your 50th at Niagara Falls! What a wonderful drive that must have been up through WV and western NY. We looked at the Charleston area; lots of history and old houses there. Jut a bit too far from any other big city for medical things, though. ;)

    Oh yes I love cemeteries, particularly the OLD ones! YAY on the old appliances, I tossed out my old refrigerator as well! The siding is going to look beautiful! You can take photographs of headstones, sharing the poems, uniquenesses, designs and shapes of headstones and crypts. Many YT'ers do photographs the cemeteries, sharing stories, restorations and sometimes they would ask for help in mowing or fixing up headstones. I enjoyed looking at soldiers and the cannons. In one cemetery where my ggrandfather was buried at, had a WWI doughboy statue. It was so beautiful!

    • @HoneyAppleFarm
      @HoneyAppleFarm  9 дней назад

      I just feel weird sharing pictures of headstones. I get that cemeteries are public places and I think it's cool other folks take pictures. Maybe I'll evolve in that direction one day. This cemetery is nicely kept, so no lawn moving needed. Definitely some restorations needed, though, and I put back a few flags and righted a couple of potted plants.
      I love that your grandfather's cemetery had a dough boy statue! I'm so used to European villages that have WWII monuments in the center of town that I think I'm still adjusting to US cemeteries having them.

      Old man winter is definitely taking his time for us, and we are so grateful! The trees are all bare now but the grass is still green and we've had most days above 50 (and dry!) Still a race to finish before the snows start, but at least it's a race we can compete in. :P

    Love your channel! Love watching your progress. Keep up the good work. A word of advice, make sure your painter fills in with wood putty the new railing balusters where they were screwed in and split, it's too bad they weren't pre drilled before screwing them on. Also, looks like the bottoms of the original porch posts have weep holes to allow water to escape and airflow so they don't rot out. I would caution having them cut off and replaced with stacked blocking unless the blocking is made from Trexx material or other non porous decking material.

    • @MsAgatha1Eta

      The porch corner needs leveling, from my perspective.

    • @brendabahorik3414
      @brendabahorik3414 15 дней назад +1

      I was also going to mention that the bottom of the porch posts need weep holes. Our old house has columns and the plinths have small gaps on all four sides, at the bottoms.

    • @HoneyAppleFarm
      @HoneyAppleFarm  9 дней назад +2

      Oh, I had no idea that weep holes were a thing! Thank you Dallen and Brenda! That makes so much sense in hindsight but completely did not occur to us in the moment.
      Ms. Agatha, good catch on the porch corner. We were told that it would settle once the new posts had been in for a month or two, and that is indeed what is happening. We'll be looking at them again to be sure all is well before the final bank inspection - and the certificate of occupancy inspection from the local health and safety office!

    Great pictures and Cemetaries are very fascinating! I remember when I was a child, we went to the cemetery with my mom and my sister disappeared, we searched for her and found her by a headstone with a picture of a little child on it. We asked her why she was over there, and my sister said she was just playing with that little girl...That was kinda creepy. LOL

    Loving your updates, that sunrise was gorgeous! My mom had a lot of old sayings as she was raised on a dairy farm. Sunrise and sunsets were used to predict the weather. It went something like this:
    Red at night, sailor's delight (predicting good weather tomorrow)
    Red in the morning, sailor's take warning (predicting rain/snow/wind-unpleasant weather).
    No idea why it's a Sea reference but like I said, she had a lot of old sayings. Always proved to be accurate though!

      Your guess is spot on except for the ceiling of the porch! We're keeping the ceiling white for now, just for simplicity. And we don't have shutters yet, but the window trim will be a darkish green. :D

    Heya , nice to see you ❤
    these sunrises are great... but... fitting for the cemetery stories... in Germany they say red dawn, the rooster is dead in the evening... and like you, I find cemeteries interesting too... MREs are good for 20 years plus.
    By the way, thank you very much for your answer, like Mr. Darcy, great name, my cat Blacky is from the street and Otis is from the animal shelter because he was abandoned at 3 weeks old.
    And.. i can not wait till your porch is done, are you going to do lights and deco for xmas?

    • @HoneyAppleFarm
      @HoneyAppleFarm  9 дней назад

      Well hello Marie! How lovely to see you here. I did not know about red dawns leading to dead roosters. Do you know where that comes from? More importantly, is it true?!
      I can't imagine anyone abandoning a cat at 3 weeks old, and yet I know it happens. How wonderful for Blacky and Otis that you took them in. :D
      We are also really excited for the porch! We definitely want to decorate for Christmas, though in all honesty it won't be this year as we still don't have electrical service done (and likely won't be moving in until just around or after Christmas). But yes - BIG plans for decorating that porch in future!
