Excellent tutorial! I always appreciate your videos as they have more information than most apps contain in their tutorials. You have helped me many times. Thanks!!

Hello everyone after I saw this tutorial I got very interested and start working with the iBassist! A few things I discover which could be very important for you to know specially when you are using the Live Pads!! When you transpose your chord progression for a different key then when you assign to the Live Pad the iBassist doesn't play your transposed chord progression he will play the original key of your chord progression that you build! Should fixed by the Lumbeat! Second one is if you use the iBassist on the AUM in the AUM you can create different sessions so if you create Session 1 with some Lives Pads you saved and Load it to your iBassist the AUM save the Session but iBassist doesnt keep the Live Pads saved which will make you load again your saved Live Pads!! If you discovered so far how to tweak this or other way to use the Live Pads without losing time between songs I will apreciate your help! In the end you can't do everything you want like you say on this tutorial!... Cheers to everyone!

Thanks Doug for another great video. At the end when you were talking about inputting chords from a midi keyboard in a live environment it made me wonder if you could input chords from something like Scaler 2?

Can you also use this app as bass module? I need to trigger the bass sounds using an external sequencer/keyboard. iFretless Bass does this, but what about iBassist?

I wish I could give this more then one like. Maybe I missed it but I'd like to see the randomizer/record button on the front page. A follow up video to iBassist would be great 👍

Great video, Doug! Suggestion:combine iBassist (and humanize velocity) with the multi-sampled iFretless bass

in 2020 I cannot for the life of me get these two apps to link up not matter how many times I rewind the video and follow the instructions.
I set midi in/out on both apps to point to each other. I even exited all other apps on the device and launched Rock DM from with "Make drums" button in iBassist. Rock DM even has an icon of iBassist showing that it;s linked, but when I hit play on iBassist, Rock DM does not respond. I also had Ableton link turned on with everything enabled on both apps.
I noticed that there have been a lot of updates since this video was made.
Anyway, would be good to know if this tute still works for people with the latest copies of these two apps.

I tried with AUM loading them as inter-app audio but no dice. Even tried routing them with AUM between each other and also with AUM as the middle agent but no dice.
Eventually I got it working with AudioBus, program changes and all.
I don't see a problem with using midi channel 10 for drum related comms. Channel 10 is the convention for drums as per the General MIDI spec.
I got it working with sending notes/chords to NETWORK sessions using an app on Windows 10 called "rtpMIDI". I was able to get some bass VSTs loaded into ableton with iBassist driving them. I was careful to get the VST track to monitor the midi channel specific to notes (3 by default). Now I record midi directly into my DAW without the need to export files. This is HUGE. My Bass VSTs are way better quality. Now I have the best of both worlds.
Even though I went through a different route (pun intended), it was still very useful watching your video as you went through the issues.

Is there a way to sort your pads as songs after you program them? I would prefer to have them in alphabetical order

Before I pay for the app does it have acoustic bass for jazz musicians.

    • @TerenceKearns
      @TerenceKearns 4 года назад

      Yes it has double bass.
Note, that you can use another accostic bass app that supports midi in, and you can send the notes from iBassist to that one if you prefer it;s sound/articulation.
iBassist has bank of jazz phrases (lines).

As for what I commonly do, I tend to use the chord features with iceworks apps since they have really fun yet simple arpeggiation options.
