  • Of all the seasons, fall is one of my faves. Not to knock the glory of winter or the expectancy of spring, or summer's variety show on Earth and sky, fall marks a slowing down, a return, a time to remember. The days begin to shorten and plant life takes on a different hue and habit, we return to school (in person!) and daily routines, and memories of the past reveal themselves. In the case of our Jewish sisters and brothers who celebrate Sukkot, their memory goes way back! The smell of raked leaves, warm kitchens, carved pumpkin, and apple cider all take me back. Back to my childhood but also my more recent childhood, lived out with my kids and family. I always enjoy Chris Van Allsburg's books and this is no exception. I hope you find it as comforting as I do. Perhaps it will help you to slow down and remember as well.
