attach the top and bottom of tire to a garden fence 4x4 post with the same bolts and place a plastic cover over the leather to protect it from the elements
very good and thanks for the idea is always good to see all this stuff about martial arts.keep sharing the videos and photos is always helpful for a lot of people thanks again and have a great day.
This is a great idea!! I don't why I didn't think of this. This makes an excellent makiwara, and the tire gives and flexes while it's being hit. I think you could also mount this to a wall to eliminate having someone hold it for you. This is great. I'm going to put one of these together immediately. Thank you for this video.
Nice job.... I am going to try making one of these.. We make our own at our dojo as well... We use thin boxes packed with magazines then compressed with duct tape..
Thank you, sensei, so much for this video; one suggestion I would make to everyone is to buy a good quality hardwood (in California, we have lots of oak), or ash or whatever local hardwoods you have; it will make sure your makiwara endures. DON'T save a few pennies by buying cheap pine, or some other soft wood; you will be sorry later when it cracks, and you have to do a major rebuild...
Wow. Impressive giving construction instructions in English! I am lucky enough to speak two languages with technical skill but only because I grew up around both and my Dad had technical training in both as well. The languages I learned on my own or in school where totally lacking those words and skills. So it is impressive to see someone do that with out specific training! You did such a good job explaining that I am sure my Mother could build your creative and low cost design!!! The word for those large metal round things in English is "flat washer=singular flat washers=plural" Thanks for posting I am going to make one my Dad gave me an old tire I use to throw footballs through I can use it!!!
Thanks for this. I used a similar build for the makiwara board, but wanted to use by myself. Have a sparring partner dummy and used the back of this with the help of a bungie cord and strapped it to this. I also wrapped mine in tarpaulin material similar to that used on kick bags to protect it. Works well as the sparring partner dummy creates the spring needed. p.s off to Japan and Okinawa in October for 11 days to train with some of the masters in Shotokan and Goju Ryu Karate-do.
Great job making the makiwara so cheaply. I've been looking to make myself and my dojo a makiwara to improve our punching technique. I also recognize your dan-belt in Goju-Ryu. I congratulate you; my form, Isshin-Ryu, is partially derived from your style. For future reference, those screws are called bolts, the little shaped ring that screws on is a nut, and the ring is a washer. If you use those again, it may help your video's audience to understand your instructions better.
Thank you very much for posting but it took a long while watching before I found out what I was watching, could you post the end result at the begginning so I know what it is I will be looking at, thank you all the same.
Eli, You did a very nice job with your makiwara design & video. Perhaps you could demonstrate a method of mounting it on the wall or floor for a karateka to train alone. Thanks!
I can't mount it, because the Dojo is old, the walls are really weak.. And I don't own the place I rent it.... So my equipment is not fixed (It is in another room). Thank you, It is me punching. I try my best.
5 Elements : Air,Soil(Rock), Water, Fire, Void. The first element is you, you are in the Air and your first stage (White) is soft Technic. Second Stage (Light Grey) make your technic Stronger like Rock .. Third Stage (Dark Grey) water Flow like water give up the rock . Fourth step fire (Red) you should now become efficient use water and rock power combined! The Fifth stage is Black (The black colors in the logo) you need no thought, no mind (void) to perform your efficient technique. You flow, you are strong, you have technic, you are efficient and you do it all without thinking about it.
would it give an equivalent resistance to real ground mounted makiwara? Feels like tire might have too little flexibility, if you mount it on the wall and end up being same as simple wood makiwara mounted straight to the wall
@SenseiEli Thanks for the video, instructions are good and quite clear, but I have a question. Can I skip the process of making a makiwara out of a tire and just punch a tire, I think it'll be enough (for one person, which is me and at home). What do you think?
You could mount it on a wall.. We didn't because the Dojo is old and not 24/7 Karate. Here is a slight improvement for the first one. ruclips.net/video/Q4U1IlM8odg/видео.html
Ok this is great but when you put this spare back on your car doesn't the board make for a ruff ride? Just kidding! I have been using a tire for years set up very similar to yours. I also have mounted a tire and wrapped it with rope and punch/strike it. Depending on the tire you get some nice resistance. Nice video by the way.
This is awesome! I wonder if anyone tried to hang it up on a wall in an apartment building. Would the rubber absorb enough force as not to damage the wall, especially if it is made out of sheet rock?
Nice simple design - sabbabah! I just might give it a try. Todah PS: I volunteered on Kibbutz Tsuba back in 1989 and there was a young woman helping on the kibbutz as part of her army time. Her name was Osnat Alfassy - any chance she's mishbachah?
Ahhh... What can I use instead of that leather? It is easy to get all the other parts, but not that piece of leather... I am planning to loop around with a regular leather belt but if you have a better idea... Thanks!!!
Hi emanuel teseira! It's been succesful but you have to look for a good wood (beech, for example). I used pine and it's not very good because it doesn't absorbe the impact, it comes back to the fist. ;)
Hi. thank you for watching and commenting. About Osnat I have a very big family she might be a relative of some sort but I don't know here. If we go back in time about 1000 years ago we might all have same Ancestors.
My respect for everyone involved in the martial arts world.
That’s amazing. I did karate years ago, and reached brown belt. This is the best makiwara I’ve ever soon. Solid, but with a little give in it.
Great Osu!
hey, this is a great idea to make Makiwara.
never thought about using tire for one!
Osu!
wonderful thankyou very much, im an english pensioner and this is going to keep me alive for another 20 years mich appreciated sensei
attach the top and bottom of tire to a garden fence 4x4 post with the same bolts and place a plastic cover over the leather to protect it from the elements
Thank you Brian ! Hope you have great training with these tools! Enjoy!
Good job. i love it when people create there own training tools. i like this i may have to mock one up for myself soon.
Wow sounds like drums. Great rock beat!
Thank you for this. I like the way you built it. mine is going outside on a tree.
Good luck and success!
very good and thanks for the idea is always good to see all this stuff about martial arts.keep sharing the videos and photos is always helpful for a lot of people thanks again and have a great day.
Will do!

Nice job.... I am going to try making one of these.. We make our own at our dojo as well... We use thin boxes packed with magazines then compressed with duct tape..
Good luck! And success!
great video very helpful, thanks. The metal disk is called a washer by the way.
thanks very much brother i have all this stuf and am player of kyoukoshin u really helpped me
Great to hear that. Enjoy!
Yes, thank you. People told me: "ring or Washer". (So I am also improving my English with my videos). Thank you!

I think the wood I used it is Tectona grandis. 11 years did not break or crack.. And I found it used.
Looks very useful. Great video, thanks!

Next time. What were you looking for?
Nice design
the circle thing you talking about for the screw is called Washer. thanks
Eli,
You did a very nice job with your makiwara design & video. Perhaps you could demonstrate a method of mounting it on the wall or floor for a karateka to train alone.
Thanks!
If I had a wall to mount it on.... Will try any case to put something. Keep on doing your best and train.
Just found this video. Absolutely fantastic. Can also be fixed to a wall or tree.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏻
Yes you can. In the place I rented I could not.
You could mout it on the wall using wall screws anchorages. Nice work of the black belt guy, very good hits, hard and power. Congrats.
I can't mount it, because the Dojo is old, the walls are really weak.. And I don't own the place I rent it.... So my equipment is not fixed (It is in another room).
Thank you, It is me punching. I try my best.
nice work !! i love it !. thank you so much !
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much, very creative congratulations, I will do it.
Just what I was looking for! Why the pyramid for your logo?

Thank you! Subscribe and watch my other videos! Have a great new week!

I did not have a wall to mount it on. What you say is right ... But we found 2 tires that were softer. We are still using this one..
Might have too little flexibility So holder can help if he stands softer.
Gute Arbeit Sensei 👍
Danke sehr!
Good idea bro
Thank you. We are using it for many years now!
Thank you, sir.
Thank you! Will try to improve! "screws on is a nut, and the ring is a washer". Thanks!
The metal surfaces with holes are called washers
Well done !!!
I got the tools, I hope I can do it too :)
I hope you could make a video on how to make split machine.
Just do it!
Thank you very much
@SenseiEli Thanks for the video, instructions are good and quite clear, but I have a question. Can I skip the process of making a makiwara out of a tire and just punch a tire, I think it'll be enough (for one person, which is me and at home). What do you think?
??? use leather on the tire..
Nice Tips, we can hang the tyre some where or fit it wall !!!
Thank you! I couldn't at that time. So I mad it portable.
Is it really beneficial
great idea ..and perfect for building power and focus..go ju ryu style
Thank you! You are welcome. I have a new Video : ruclips.net/video/qVV_5naOWnk/видео.html
What about a stand. Person holding it not many around.
You could mount it on a wall.. We didn't because the Dojo is old and not 24/7 Karate. Here is a slight improvement for the first one. ruclips.net/video/Q4U1IlM8odg/видео.html
Eli Elfassy I don't want to mount on wall due to if I hit the wall I will pay money on it. Do you have stand instruction. The wall is to weak.
Haywood2 No, I don't have it yet in my channel. This should be a very strong mount.
I've actually built my own makiwara board as well I have it on my channel it's a great tool for conditioning
That was Awesome!
can it resist my wing chung's one inch punch which i have perfected for over 8 years???
btw keep it that the good work :)
Thank you!! Good video and helps me to make my own Makiwara.
Arigatou
ElisaBustin Thank you for watching. I have this one as well with a more flexible tire. Have a great day! ruclips.net/video/Q4U1IlM8odg/видео.html

I'm about to find out lol
Is it work as same traditonal makiwara or not ?
Traditonal makiwara is better if you have a place to build it. This one is mobile and easy to put everywhere.
Sir how to make traditonal makiwara pls
I'm from Brazil. My English is very poor. But it is very good. Thank you!
Obrigado!
Muito bom. Poderia colocar um suporte para pendurar nos ombros.
Nice!
Thank you.

h_h
....thank you
+Youcef Djo Thank you! If you like my channel subscribe...
it can be improved by being fixed against the wall
Nice simple design - sabbabah! I just might give it a try. Todah

Huge family could be! Thank you for your comment.
hi, how can you hang it on a wall?
You can drill 2 holes and put in on the wall. If you have a usable wall I suggest you use standard Makiwara
thats a good punch you have there :D nice video
Thanks !!!
Thank you Sensei.
Good punch!
Brn Fgn Thank you.
the round metal bits that fits the screws what you dont know the name of are called, "Washers" :-)
Thank you.
Hi Eli, this is excellent. Very creative and practical. Have you every placed this tire on a wall? Domo arigato gozaimasu, Peter
Hi Peter. If I could mount it on a wall I would do the standard one.. But it is possible.
Domo arigato gozaimasu! Peter
