The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place for two weeks every summer in Switzerland, drawing 250,000 music lovers to the shores of Lake Geneva. Since 1967, the Festival has celebrated all genres of music and generated countless legendary performances. I only discovered him 3 days ago and can't get enough, I would have loved to be at that wonderful concert and in that nice quite intimate setting :D I am sure by now anywhere he goes he has many fans who shout their favorite pieces to be played :)

J'adore Chili Gonzales, tout ce qu'il fait est remarquable, il sait tellement de toute la musique, de l'instrument piano, et il ne se prend pas au sérieux. J'adore. Quand il pose ses mots et ses pensées sur la musique, c'est excellent, c'est comme Jean François Zigel, ou Alain Manoukian parlent de la musique. Mais je déplore qu'il profite d'être en Suisse pour balancer sur la chanson française...
Selon lui, la chanson française manque de jouissance musicale.
À part Daft Punk , musique électro qui a son charme, très répétitive, ne connait-il pas Arthur H, Benjamin Biollay, Véronique Sansom, Etienne Daho, Malik Djoudi, Philippe Katerine, Zao de Sagazan, Christine and The Queen, Laurent Voulzy, Alain Souchon, Bernard Lavilliers, Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardi, Nicolas Repac, Juliette Armanet, Bashung, Jean Louis Murat, L'Impératrice, Feu Chatterton et ses cristaux liquides?
Pas très élégant de sa part. Humour un peu trop facile, en étant en Suisse. FRENCH KISS!!!
Sinon, merci aux Suisses, ça fait plaisir qu'ils partagent ce moment intime du Montreux Jazz Festival!

Yea that interpretation of Black Hole Sun was simply amazing, it made me a bit emotional actually. Such a nice gesture to light a candle for Chris before he played it. Didn't know much about Chilly Gonzalez before this, but what a guy.

I love Chilly's music - Chambers and Solo Piano 1 and 2 are consistently in my listening rotation. I must say though - this performance is pretty loose. It's his music, he can do what he wants with it - but I found the embellishments to be a little over the top and poured on too heavy. It stopped being interesting / pleasing and started just sounding showy and busy.
I much preferred his performance with with the Kaiser Quartet...I think perhaps the additional musicians provided a touch of boundary to reign in what might be his more indulgent moments.

lmayliffe . Truth. His embellishments probably make complete sense to him musically. A gifted artist who just needs to remember that not every one has the capacity to follow to the some of the abstract places his mind leads. Especially the musically average person such as I. :)

Finally someone who is using his ears. Music can be more public friendly without sacrificing musicality. Which is not what's happening here. Sounds like one of those guys who plays the piano in the train stations tbh.

I am an european who followed US politics very closely on a daily bases during the Trump administration. Retrospectivly i should have just listened to this or music overall which in comparison would not feel now like a waste of time. Add to that the pandemic and
2017 feels like a lifetime ago.

To be fair...
I play Knight Moves since 3 years now and i can handle it pretty good. But time for time i listen to Chillys Knight Moves. The difference is incredible. Dont know why but its just insane how he can play that song. I got the same Notes and can handle them but he is just to magic
I've never played the piano and pretty much know nothing about what melodies are hard to play, but Knight Moves blows my mind every time, one of the best musical experiences ever, especially the one performed on Graz.
I guess the main difference is he's playing it from his head and you're playing by notes. Just my opinion.
