Gadget Addict I'd say your comment would be a bit narrow minded... Don't get me wrong, I clicked the video in the interest of seeing these perverted pieces of space junk fall out of the sky, but the title of the video isn't wrong at all to the relation of the content. He hunts, one definition being "pursues, searches" satellites, but I do get what you mean. Then again, all media is misleading in one way or another.
***** Why's it shit? Because it isn't what you're used to? Its not the brain washing shit they feed to the public? They cover grounds no other journalist even fucking dares to think of. The only thing I know is fake about them, is that there is no way they can fit into an airplane with balls as big as theirs. Go back to watching Fox News.
=]] I live in Europe, we do not have Fox News or any kind of shit american television. Vice is just as much cancer as any media outlet, misleading titles and shit news. That's not real journalism, they are not real journalists. Period
@@TenzaBurabura Yeah, I’ll take the first cab heading out of the solar system. Seriously have you ever spent any period of time in the desert country where the stars take over the night sky? The blanket of light pollution is changing cultures in a bad way. It’s cutting people off from the entire visible universe. That messes with the human psyche more than most people can imagine. People no longer see the wonders of the universe, and learn all that it teaches. Then you get whole cultures who think the night sky is just a few “lights” and that we live on a flat earth. It’s a bad thing.
We have Nyepi once a year on this island (Bali). You're not allowed off your property (you're detained and probably in trouble if caught on the streets) so there's no cars on the roads/street lights, people are encouraged to only use lights at night that are not visible from outside. For this time the sky is insaaaaaaaaane, lack of light pollution - totally get what you mean :)
Wafflecookie Especially when he talks about getting "blue screens and having the whole system crash". Lol. That's not something that frequently happens with every computer.
I have watched many many super awesome vice documentaries but for some simple reason this is one of my favorites!! Maybe because photography is my hobby and passion and I can relate to the ending.he seems like an awesome person.i bet it'll be awesome to hang around him
Well. That kind of sucked. Why didn't your editor just spring for another night and you could go and get the shots that you wanted to. I think that kind of effort would have produced an award winning expose of "Satellites are Spying on Us", and here is the proof. Instead you give us what: A Frenchman in hisa backyard lamenting cloud cover. Cool.
there is actually no video i don't like on vice channel. Congratulations! I don't know a better doccumentaries channel on youtube so far, Good job and thank you!
Eddie Huang isn't egocentric like you think. He's actually really humble. His memoir is coming out on the 29th of January so I think you should read it to get a better understanding of where Mr. Huang is coming from.
Dark Sky is a must have for both viewing and telephotography, other your eyes never get dark-adapted if there is too much ground light. I used to haul my telescope 18 miles south and set up on a high hill overlooking a river valley. Winter is best because nights are longer and skies are clearer
you know, I bet it happens more often than you might think. I mean not literally the blue screen (as they might not even run Windows), but software/OS crashing, for sure. but most of the time rebooting probably fixes it
Showing my age I think . I remember correctly running outside to watch early versions pass over by listening to short wave stations reporting the next pass
If you want to find unknown satellites, get one of those sat tracking apps on your phone. Watch the sky and wait for objects to come overhead. Anything that comes over that isn't showing on the sat tracking app is likely to be a spy sat or unknown debris.
The "Russian Intelligence Satellite" (2:39) he is speaking of is in fact a USSR era spy satellite. Intelligence is often used in place of the slang term "spy" considering the shady tone of the word spy. So please, do some research before you make a stupid comment like that. High visibility posts can be detrimental to videos, and it is wrong, as in unethical, to make them when they are unwarranted.
I love watching things fly by in space with my astronomy binoculars. I can set up in 2 minutes. I need a little led head lamp but i want one with a red lens or light because its easy on the pupils and bugs ignore it. I was wanting to get video of satellites and objects with my 28x but I need something smaller and able to swing with my 15 lb binos.
It’s crazy I see this now, it was a clear night yesterday as I’m posting, and I’d consider my self a amateur astronomer and I use many apps etc.. to help me discover what’s out there and i noticed a moving dot in the sky what I at first thought was the iss but when checking where the iss was it was completely under the horizon and after using a few apps I couldn’t even find anything in the area
In Vice's defense it's called "The man who hunts spy satellites" implying that it is about the man, not the actual hunting. Now if they titled it "A man hunting spy satellites," that would be weird.
Such a great short story, this is want I want to see. Syria videos are cool and all. But this is so interesting. Just one man, passionate about what he does, ready to give information about something so cool.
The emoticon at the end doesn't mean that's any less childish. Not that I'm one of those uptight people that goes around instigating, but it sounded to me like he did learn to speak english... which I'd assume you're still learning a first language, when he could be on his third. So pretty much a really craptacular joke on your end, that's all :) See how the emoticon I used made it less insulting? Like this? :D
Hybridious lol its about as simple as it gets. I could produce that beat in under 5 minutes, probably less. Kick snare kick snare under an arp and a shitty buzz bass..yay.
Waited for the spy satellite stuff, never came. Misleading title.
Gadget Addict I'd say your comment would be a bit narrow minded... "not real journalism"
Fucking wow, you know what I say to that bullshit?!

“Light pollution is a type of prison.” Indeed.

Light pollution is not a prison, any more than the middle of the ocean is solitary confinement. If it's not suited to your needs, leave.

Those photos of Mir, Shuttle, ISS etc against the sun are just amazing!
I'm very impressed by this man. He is so passionate and optimistic person at all.
_"Light pollution is a kind of prison."_ Without a doubt!
In pitch darkness, have your kids see the Milky Way at least once; mandatory viewing.
b1aflatoxin I know I hate light pollution.
So true, but still, light is a safety feature in citys or suburbs too. Can't have it all :)

he seems like a really nice person, so gentle and positive
That was it? They didn't stay another day to see if the weather would be better?
lol right?
Unless it was holding a geosynchronous orbit over his house, the satellite would not be there to view the next day.
bigb00m
Makes sense, but I'm sure he could have showed them something interesting.
Little Wing 😂😂😂
So its only the first 20 seconds that involves anything regarding spy satellites?
"Who are the ad wizards whoa came up with that one?"
An acceptable use of Clickbait. There are very few.
His first mistake was buying a hp pavilion
no shush it all about unrespect a hp product
John Luke Horan *a
lmfao
Wafflecookie Especially when he talks about getting "blue screens and having the whole system crash".
Lol. That's not something that frequently happens with every computer.
was talking about its bad rumor of being the official worst laptop on earth in record of overheating
very well done! Educational to say the very least
*Puts his 6" telephotography reflector away*.
Damn that 14" cass is WOW!!!!
***** IKR. Love cassies :D
I hate the accent tho
This guy is exceptional and his imagery is jaw dropping.
I have watched many many super awesome vice documentaries but for some simple reason this is one of my favorites!! Maybe because photography is my hobby and passion and I can relate to the ending.he seems like an awesome person.i bet it'll be awesome to hang around him
Very interesting! He seems very happy with his hobby. Im glad for him.

3 years late - but I think it would be easy to figure out that it's a satellite and it won't be above his city that exact time at night the next day.
Lol.
JohnFive Eagles Szuros 😂
jar jar binks
I hope this inspires a whole new generation of Astro Photographers. Kewl vid
there is actually no video i don't like on vice channel. Congratulations! I don't know a better doccumentaries channel on youtube so far, Good job and thank you!
This is great. This guy is intelligent and interested in what he's doing and it shows clearly. No nonsense, just doing what he wants to.
They always put such great music in these
this was really good. this guy seems so nice
Astronomer was great, Vice needs to try again for a clear night.
Eddie Huang isn't egocentric like you think. He's actually really humble. His memoir is coming out on the 29th of January so I think you should read it to get a better understanding of where Mr. Huang is coming from.

that was a beautiful documentary. it's so nice to see someone who has such a strong passion for something.
10:13 - I love this quote... "If I don't want to take a risk, I'd just stay at home on my sofa.."
He's an interesting person. Just really into his hobby which happens to be his career
Your name scares me!
Thanks for the awesome doc vice, that guy's drive is an example. He sincerely made my day. Passionate people make for great documentaries!
That was the coolest photo of a Mcdonnell Douglas MD-11 I've ever seen!
"spy satellites" thumbnail is a picture of the international space station,
he seems nice and all but he uses internet explorer :/
the best vice videos are those without narration. the story tells itself.
This Frenchman just gave me some kind advice I needed. Great video
Me too !
Do you want build a mega telescop-sat with me ?
I call Soyouz for rocket, and Kourou for launching !
Lmao
Man takes picture of satellite
Man: I aM sPYinG on sPIes
having a free time hobby like this wud b so awesome
Great story about a passion Thierry puts into his hobby.
Turn the volume up, plz.
you know, I bet it happens more often than you might think. I mean not literally the blue screen (as they might not even run Windows), but software/OS crashing, for sure. but most of the time rebooting probably fixes it
THANK YOU !!!
what a brilliant individual..
Finally vice uploads something thats decently intersting.
Dude deserves another epi
I wouldn't be surprised since the publishing of this video that the clouds above his house are permanently obscuring his view
"you know, some activity were there is no risk, and were you win every time, its too easy."
That telescope setup is rad.
Showing my age I think . I remember correctly running outside to watch early versions pass over by listening to short wave stations reporting the next pass
Your comment would make sense if this video was titled: "The Man Who's Hunting Spy Satellites"
Always support people's passions! It make them happy and leads to great things!
haha!
Allow me to re-quote:
"I once took a picture of Uranus, but all I saw was an asshole"
;)
would love to hear flat earth explanation of all this..
Flat Earther explanation - "France is fake"
@@d.samuels6673 Australia isn't real
Its a RUclips video its faked.
I am so glad to know about this guy. Kudos to him and best of luck with his efforts.
This was awesome, but the way he said "focus" at 7:41 cracked me up.
If you want to find unknown satellites, get one of those sat tracking apps on your phone. Watch the sky and wait for objects to come overhead. Anything that comes over that isn't showing on the sat tracking app is likely to be a spy sat or unknown debris.
This video was rather interesting. The guy's philosophy is nothing short of wonderful.
The music (especially the 1 playing towards the middle of the vid) sounds like AIR, melikes :-3

His photos are so great !
its always enlightening to see someone's passion on their hobby :D
Thise are some amazing pics its not so easy finding let alone travking and photographing satellites that are miles and miles away from earth
he should hunt the black knight satellite
If there was such a thing
there ~4
I was expecting a guy with a rocket launcher ready looking through a telescope for spy satellites.
Beautiful photographs
Yes, I completely agree with you. The title was pretty misleading
stories like these is why vice is getting a show on hbo
this man is an inspiration
we need more intelligent individuals like him
I love watching things fly by in space with my astronomy binoculars. I can set up in 2 minutes. RUclips is the best news channel in the world!
With a homemade antenna and a laptop with some free software you can find on hobby websites you can tap into satellite broadcasts
nailed the music on this one keep it up vice
This was a great video, it was just about something other than the title.
Where did you get such amazing video of space like at 4:36?
IF this guy ever comes on interpol's most wanted list and goes to exile, He'd be the real pain in the ass to find.
Incredible photographs, Keep it up.
No doubt this is a very respectable hobby.
I like how he says the word "satellites."
the music at 5.29 is amazing. who is it by?
Motherboard: "Lets make a video about satellites!"
Vice: "Not hipster enough."
Motherboard: "What if we do it in France?"
Vice: 'PERFECT!"
its so chill
I wanted a telescope when i was 9, never got one because i was too poor :(
Gally G
Now u r rich, buy it for me
Fantastic video
Thierry is a national treasure. :)
In Vice's defense it's called "The man who hunts spy satellites" implying that it is about the man, not the actual hunting. Now if they titled it "A man hunting spy satellites," that would be weird.
What would be cool is if a satellite takes a picture of this guy as he takes a picture of the satellite.
Intelligence is often used in place of the slang term "spy"
all of this super hi-tech satellite technology and then at 9:07 he has a ps3 controller on the table hahaha
"Like a joystick in a video game" looks more like a transmitter for a radio controlled airplane...
Such a great short story, this is want I want to see. Syria videos are cool and all. But this is so interesting. Just one man, passionate about what he does, ready to give information about something so cool.
finally some quality content at vice :P

Correct, we all get satisfaction from seeing big numbers attached to our names.
Cool stuff! Nice equipment too.
Thierry Legault, google it. he takes amazing pictures
Now this guy has uite an awesome hobby!
What kind of music do they play 9:06, because it sound awesome!!
I also want to know!

Danielle Scribbins then why didn’t you?
got'errrrrrrr
this is why i use Tin foil hat every day
ingenious ! the tin foil blocks and redirects the spy beams from the satellite so they cannot control your mind !
I was waiting for the moment he pulls out the laser gun to shoot down the spy satellites
One of the most demanding photography specialties...
