Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, took the oath of office Tuesday afternoon local time in a ceremony at the Iranian parliament. Pezeshkian was officially appointed on Sunday following an endorsement by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The final step of the inauguration process includes today's formal swearing-in, with cabinet members expected to be announced afterward. The inauguration of a new president in Iran involves two stages: the endorsement ceremony (Tanfiz) by the Supreme Leader, followed by the oath-taking before parliament (Tahlif). The head of Iran’s Judiciary and members of the Guardian Council, which oversees election candidates, were also present. In recent developments, during a meeting with Iran-backed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, President-elect Pezeshkian affirmed, "We are certain that the resistance of the Palestinian people and fighters will lead to ultimate victory and the liberation of the land of Palestine."
