- What a stroke maker. What an innings. Desmond Haynes all class with this sublime century vs Australia on a sharp turning wicket at the SCG January 1989 @fromashestoarchive1861
Was a sensational opening batsmen. 1 of the greats
This is the test match in which Alan Border took 11 wickets and aussies won the match. Remember reading an article on this match in newspaper 36 years back.
Desmond Haynes one of the best opening batsman with Gordon greenidge
True Cricketers 💪👍
there was a time when he was the highest odi century record holder and he hand gordon greenise had highest odi century partnerships named after them... Just look how beautifully he is using front foot to play the spin
Haynes was born in Barbados the same country as my.parents I met him in Bridgetown once top down to earth guy
Thank-you!
Des lived in the shadows of other greats but he achieved more than them, especially in one dayers..!
Haynes was a bonafide ATG in ODIs, in fact as per some analysts, at the time of his retirement, he was considered amongst the top-5 best ODI batsmen of all-time.
But in tests, despite his prolific record and technical finesse, as visible from the fact he carried his bat THRICE and two of them against strong pakistani attacks, his overseas test average was only 33 in contrast to a home average of nearly 54, putting question marks on his consistency.
Desy was great.
Haynes uses lots of power in his shots.
This innings was played at a time West Indies batsmen, despite being regarded as amongst the best in the world, were under scrutiny for their ability to perform on turning wickets. Not entirely their fault, they had the world's best pace attack so they knew how to counter fast-bowlers.
Glad Haynes answered back on a spinner friendly pitch.
I love the grace and finesse he and Greenidge had: You can tell he was a better player on raging turners than some West Indians; Gordon could pirouette with perfect balance ala Christopher Dean while playing legside shots. They might have both averaged in the early 40's, but I would love them to coach BBL, CPL & IPL franchises. Warner & Bairstow improved under the likes of VVS & Lara, imagine what Des could do for Harry Brook, Jaswal & Hetmyer. I miss his style. Thanks.
Jeez the bakery was doing great business with all the ‘pies’ being bowled. . Made Dessie look even better ! 😂
Fantastic batsman but always in the shadow of another great and his illustrious partner Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge...
From Ashes to Archive, any chance you've got to upload Sri Lanka vs West Indies cwc 1992 matches that was played at Berri Oval, on 13th March 1992, please let me know.
Brilliant batsmanship but some of the bowling was a tad generous.
I agree.
It's a highlights package of his batting. They're hardly going to show the plentiful good balls that he blocked or left.
has big backlift
Spin boling is just recklesst much short ball
Rubbish kind of spin bowling not even 10% of Shane Warne. But Haynes is undoubtedly a legend. Wish the youngsters could imitate his batting style.
