This isn't fantasy hack-and-slash where you're automatically the Prince/Chosen One/Magical Hero: You're a nobody, a small fish in a big pond, and this is an immersive fight for survival.
I have 1,200 hours in this game and I'm still finding new stuff every playthrough. if you stick with it for atleast 5-6 hours you will respect and appreciate what it is, and maybe eventually love it.

Just got it for 4.99$ Played for 80 hours so far. First game in a long time where you literally feel yourself 'getting good'. The first time you take on an armored opponent and just man handle them feels so earned. It's not done with stupid power scaling either where they just add a bigger HP bar and go SEE it's harder. 10/10....well 9/10 because of some stuff but it was amazing.
Its an amazing feeling. Was doing the band of brothers DLC and My Henry was buzz sawing through them when a few hard practices with captain Bernard ago he was getting his ass handed to him by the lowest of enemies.
Not sure why The Algorithm decided to start showing me KC:D vids (like this was the 4th or 5th one today, only one I've clicked on tho) but you talked me into it.
Gonna be honest, I had no idea what this game was, I just went why not ? So I downloaded and went Pure blind reaction... I went for bronze I left with gold bro, this is game actually really good
The limited saving system and the high learning curve with lockpicking are the things to overcome. If you can figure out how to deal with these systems, there is a ton of fun to have.
you can tell where the budget cut off in the main story when there is steep quality drop, this game thrives by its side missions and immersive aspects. dang you're so good with the bow though
The double learning curve is steep and turns off more people than would be ideal... That said, KCD is the most rewarding game I have ever played in my 35 years of gaming... The story and settings are incredible and the music... Only Witcher 3 comes close on the soundtrack department
I mean... it DOES say "Run!" The hallmark of this game is that you aren't the Chosen One, the Dragonborn, or anything like that - Henry's just a somewhat loutish layabout kid. Treat the game as carefully and sensibly as if you really had to try and survive, and you'll do fine. And spar with Captain Bernard.
It absolutely holds up, especially on PC. It's visuals still amaze me to this day. One thing that I would like to do is an honorable hardcore run with all negative perks and zero crime.
The first time I played I immediately fell in love with the game for the weirdest reason… I realized how many actors were also in ArmA 3, at the time my favorite game.
Speaking of the moments a game’s combat clicks, the first time I ever experienced that feeling was in the second Gothic game, from Piranha Bytes back in the early 2000s. Still one of my favorites, even with all the clunkiness of the interface. Looking forward to the Gothic Remake coming soon (this year, hopefully).
You didnt talk about combo attacks or master strikes when talking about combat i hope you got to use some of them as they make combat a lot more enjoyable
Only played it earlier in this past year, and it was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. And i do play quite a lot of games. I couldn't recommend this game enough.
I bought KCD recently on sale. I want to keep playing it but the audio not syncing during cutscenes is throwing off the immersion smh. Is this only an issue for me? I'm on Series S.
I'm at 180 hours in game, and I just made it inside the monastery. Sure it has a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you invest some time to learn the game's mechanics, it becomes a great experience. I'm really looking forward to KCD2
MODS. The mods available not only fix annoying bugs/features, they bring a lot more realism from graphics to NPS. With the mods that I am using, I could easily pass this game off as a AAA 2024 RPG.
I wanted to love this game. I gave up early. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Plus there were some horrible bugs at launch. I may give it a go again at some point. I know there's something great there.
to be absolutely clear here: kcd will deliver some euro-junk as expected, but its good old rpg gamejunk (first one be my witness), no new modern audience style forced here, just true and hard-core role gameplay
I am pretty sure there is a "click" when the pick breaks....^_^ Joking aside, it was hard for me kb/mouse at first but then got use to it eventually as I leveled up.
im not gonna waste 3hours of my life on the unlikely chance that combat somehow feels better with more skills unlocked. If the core gameplay isn't solid, then extensions of it arn't going to be either.
@@BoomstickGaming I know what thats suppossed to feel like. ive thouroughly enjoyed games with a learning curve like dark souls series, witcher series, chivalry, mordheim etc.. But their combat felt good and enjoyable even when i was bad at it and losing most fights. If ontop of ingame stat/skill rpogression you also as the player need to have good technical skills to apreciate it, thats a negative, not a positive. I know what that feels like too, with 3000 hours in dota 2, hundreds of hours of both mount blade games, games like arma/dayz etc.. The combat systems and controls just wern't intutive or enjoyable and dumping time and effort into them didn't fix them.
I installed a console mod or something that allowed me to mark enemies and instakill them with a command. I'm not embarrassed to say that this completely changed my attitude towards the game. The stories / quests alone makes this game a 10/10 for me! I love how even the mundane everyday tasks are sometimes a quest in this game. I love that!
most beautifully drawn map ever put into a videogame, how could you struggle? I played it in hardcore mode (which removes GPS Henry icon from the map, as well as compass) and had great fun - being able to get lost at night in a forest was a surprisingly refreshing experience in a game!
Wow, really called me out in the intro there 😂. I fell off it in the first few hours. The combat never clicked, and it felt clunky. Was really disappointed I couldn't get into it, I thought I would love it. Seemed like a more hardcore, realistic Oblivion. After watching this fantastic video, I do want to give it another try. Only issue is time, or the lack there of.....
The combat is somewhat clunky when fighting against multiple opponents, but when you learn the mechanics (and have Henry train with Bernard to learn all the ingame skills), it becomes great fun. It still requires being careful and using right weapon for right situation (e.g. when opponents are heavily armored, mace or hammer will be more useful than sword). Also, the game counts with the player being sensible and, say, running away when getting their ass kicked.
Idk man. I feel people want to seem "unique" so they choose a game like this and say its good. The combat is objectively bad and the lockpicking isnt anything to brag about.
You don’t need to do the DLC for the dog. Just talk to Theresa about the dog and she gives it to you. Also, the DLC missions aren’t bad, just weird not playing as Henry. Especially if you do it after you’ve been playing a while and going back to being shitty at combat again
@ that’s up to you. You should be able to get the Royal edition for really cheap that comes with all the DLC, not just A Woman’s Lot. That DLC was interesting for some additional backstory. But if you’re not interested in doing it you certainly don’t have your, unless you want the trophies/achievements
I quit about 10 hours in because I grew to realize how much I hated the game and its limitations. The combat was the only thing keeping me going through all the bugs and immersion breaking bullshit with the guards and crime.
I played for about 40 hours before dropping it and honestly idk what even kept me playing for that long. The combat is great, sure but pretty much everything else feels like it's designed to be as tedious and unfun as possible. The story and characters are also incredibly uninteresting imo, I just couldn't bring myself to like Henry as a character.
Did you ever go back to train with captain bernard? I recommend doing that several times until you can beat him, then doing the tournaments and you will find it much easier

Honestly, how many games do you know where you can chill by a hearth on a rainy evening next to a simmering pot of stew, and just read books?
Play it, get so far insoon as it clicks and you understand the realism and what you really need to do, restart and do things the right way.
what? Real men restart 8452 times in hardcore mode.
