Quick update: this week I received the subframe I ordered from Florida. It's in good condition, except for a minor dent on the horizontal surface. But the most important thing is that when I inserted my spare idler arm in the bracket, the arm rotated more freely and contacted the stopper perfectly! So it looks like a new subframe will solve my issue. Still waiting for an engine hoist/holder so I will update in a few weeks...
keep going buddy!!!! the vehicle history reports clearly don't always show everything and we all take chances on these cars because I'm guilty of this myself I did not pay out of pocket for a mechanical pre inspection on my 740 there will always be surprises. if you do the math and that car was brought to the shop once per year of its life thats min 30 pairs of hands that have wrenched on it not all of which may have known what they were doing !!!! bummer about the subframe I have faith you will get it sorted
Man that is hard news, but I know you’ll get it sorted out! My 89 735il is going to be up on stands for a while as well as I’m finally replacing rear trailing arm bushings. Turning into a pretty big job as both trailing arms are now removed from car
Thanks! Yes I just have to face the facts and fix it. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. The rear trailing arm bushings is a big job. I read that the bushings are very difficult to press out and in the trailing arm. It's very tight and the shape of the trailing arm makes it tricky to use a press. Good luck with the job!
Thanks for the video! I'm just about to start with my front end. I went with E31/32 upper thrust arms and 750il bushings for some added firmness and durability without harshness. I went with the aluminum lowers, new tie rods, center link, and new bolts, nuts, idler arm and bushing, etc. Everything is BMW directly except for the lower control arms which are OE Lemforders. Which ball joint removal tool are you using? There are tons on Amazon, though Amazon is hit or miss these days.
That will be a nice upgrade on your car. I used two styles of ball joint removal tools, both purchased on Amazon: "8MILELAKE Universal Ball Joint Separator Tool" and "GEARWRENCH Ball Joint Separator - 3916D"
Good Video! It proves once again, that you can never get enough tools. For working with ARB links, it is good to own low profile sockets (SUNEX, ASTRO). Hope you will decide problem with adjusting. Greetings :)))
Indeed, we can never have enough tools! I've been looking at the Astro nano sockets for some time now, they would be useful. In fact my whole socket set needs an update because I use a cheap set that I got many years ago. It's similar in quality to the cheaper Harbor Freight stuff. I will update later about my alignment adventure, hopefully with good results.
Hi! It is the repair manual for the BMW E32, made by Bentley Publishers. It's available online here: www.bentleypublishers.com/bmw/repair-information/bmw-7-series-e32-1988-1994-repair-manual.html
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec Thank you, it will be interesting to read. It's a pity there is no Russian, you will have to translate. I'm just from Ukraine. I have a 730I. In theory, the guide should be suitable.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec I am going to change my centre link and other parts as well, I will check to see if I have the same issue. My car has a shake in the front end at 90-110ish km/hr. I have not determined if it’s bad rims and tires or steering components. I have changed top and bottom control arms and tie rods, it is better but not 100%
Hi Peter, I do not have direct links for the parts. The location of the store will depend on your physical location. In the US there are many options like FCP Euro, ECS Tuning etc.
