That panel is a perfect candidate for the English Wheel But since you know howe, you will not use it. That is a compound curve.😫 Good luck, this will wind up being anoyher patch job.
Hi Chad, Jolene, & Doug how is everyone doing on this fine Monday? Chad I know that you set up the height of the decklid to meet properly with the quarter panels but just in my opinion the decklid is to high and it does not look right but you are the fabricator and I am just a viewer and maybe when you get done with it I won't feel that way. Chad I am rarely critical but, this is one of those times I feel I have to give my opinion! Doug it is good to see you back and I hope you and your son are doing well! Jolene thank you for another great video and congratulations on 330 subscribers you are obviously doing a really good job!
Why not put trunk back where it originally was and make a panel between hinges and back seat? Or cut off the hinge edge of trunk and extend the trunk ultimately making the trunk longer. It would solve all your issue in the back very easily.
This guy is so afraid of the english wheel that instead of trying to learn how to use it, he prefer to spend hours of bending straight metal sheet in some curved shape. He said he would take to long, that’s an excuse for not knowing how to use it. It’s a shame… because hi getting better in his build.
The reason being he wont use the English Wheel is because he doesnt have a clue how to use it, but bullshit to the audience that it takes hrs and hrs 😂😂😂
@@scottnorman5057 you have never ever seen me criticize anything bad Chad videotapes. But I definitely criticize people with negative hateful comments.
The reason your original sketch looked so good for the design you wanted was because the top of the trunk and the hood were the same height/level. Go back and look at your original drawing sketch. The level of the trunk now being up sooooooo high changes everything and the overall "look" of the car is not as appealing. just my bellybutton obviously, but always trust your first instinct, and you've strayed from that.
Chad I’m nearly 80 and after tripping over extension leads first 20 years I learned to run em overhead. Have 3/4 live plugs just above your head you can have 3-4 tools ready to go and not trippin over. Plus easy to reach to swap tools around. I’m in Aussie hope you don’t mind me saying
Hi Chad & Jolene and Doug & Fina! Don't you still have the roof from the Volvo? It may have had the right shape you need, to make the rear part. You should also mount the rear fenders loose, so you know how it will look.
I was surprised Chad didn’t use the curved piece he cut from the bottom for a support just to make the pattern by adding some tabs and tacking it on higher up, or used a curved piece of round rod to maintain the bowed out hump?…From just the patterns fitment you could tell it was gonna end up being flat a$$ed…🤔
Your designing a car astound a trunk lid that does not fit ,why dont you make a trunk lid instead of mansplaining to justify your decision ,perhaps you’ve reached the level of your ability
I am inclined to agree that it will be better if you roll it the other way. Can you cut that piece in half and roll it the other way and then weld it back together ? Or would you lose too much distance ? By the way after being in the air as much as you both were you have the A/C crud, just as bad as a cold. I used to fly a lot with the RCAF and after 12 to 18 hours of flying if I was the least bit tired I would have the Crud for days after I got home
Sorry Chad, it is butt ugly, good time to use metal shaping tools, english wheel. now you do it again, if you think before act, it is allmost done already, good luck,
i would drop the boot opening back and down towards the rear, and inwards so its more flatten look than a bubble boot .means you have to build up towards rear window instead .

Make a form from small round stock, or square tubing to make the shape you like then wrap it with sheet metal. or use the English weel to form a somewhat shape. easy peasy. Also lower the trunk down a few inches.
When you make your pattern to lay against the trunk lid,I'd mark the top of the paper and the metal of the car so you can line it up easier. And you don't have to worry about lining it up again when you recut your pattern. And and it would be faster,I know you'd like that.
You need to add at least 12 inches to the top of the trunk lid where it meets the rear deck, your rear panel is way too deep… the lower trunk shut line should be just above the where the bumper would fit. Check out a British Morris 1000 from the 1960s for reference
Granted I have not watched him for awhile because I have seen enough chopped tops, having done them 45 years ago. So now I am leaving this now having seen what has to be the most horrifying piece of shit that he turned this poor Volvo into.

Just want to say hi to everyone and say it's good to see you back home and with Doug. Hope you all are having a blessed day. God bless and have a blessed evening and night
@Bad Chad, I think you have over engineered the rear end. To reshape I would have taken out a pizza slice out on both sides of the trunk, narrow ends on the fender sides, slice the bottom center of the trunk and push inward closing the pizza slices to reshape the bottom of your trunk and to match the trunk lid. My opinion only, use it don't use it. 😂

This is one of my favourite projects BUT the trunk has to come down. It's way too high as it sits.
He may have to break out the English Wheel again for that panel to get the two way curve.

Perfect time to use the English wheeel
Agree

I was thinking the same thing
What does it look like with the rear fenders on?
that would be to easy.
Use the English wheel!
yes, once it was rolled, couple passes to give it a curve the other way.
Yep. The English wheel would take the flatness out of that panel.

The English wheel lets you roll in both directions
Trunk is too high big panel on the back doesn't look good lower the trunk just my opinion
Where is the English wheel??
Jolene bought him an English wheel to roll that back panel, why isn't he using it
@@allenlockwood-t8x 15min and perfect fit.

Nice process appreciation video.
I'm curious why you don't have one of the rear fenders hanging place to help visualizing, as you decide this part?
Was surprised to see trunk so elevated. Picture looks better
I bet he takes it off . Maybe do it in 2 pieces. Always grind and smooth the center .

Use VW beetle hood on backwards as a trunk lid.
Back is way to high
For me its too high but its not my build.
It's a puzzle whoever can fit the pieces back together faster regardless if it looks right wins 🏆 👌
Use the roof skin to make the rear, should have plenty of compound curve
That’s a good idea.
Get the English wheel out, needs bends both ways, there's not enough curve in the middle
Make a two piece rear tail panel. Use round stock to create a peek between the two pieces.
Good to see Doug back! Now all we need is Nate!
Not a panel beater

The trunk lid back should follow 34:47 the same shape as the rear shape of the fender

Don't you still have the roof from the Volvo?
It may have had the right shape you need, to make the rear part.

Drop the lid and slide it back
Too high and too far forward and needs a compound curve under. English wheel!!
Trunk is too high when you put rear fender on it I could see how bad it looks!
Good to see Doug in the house again get her done
I was thinking it needs a break on the bottom lip after rolling it. Then shrink the bottom lip to get the curve. Cant wait to see it get done
I thought you had a blue English wheel which could have curved the panel in the X and Y.

Awesome work Bad Chad, great to see how you work through your design process 💡🧠 .

Maybe add an inset, shadow box, for the rear licence plate. To visually break up the big back panel a bit.
Boot lid is wrong shape it's not going to work until you cut it down and widen it.

Take some round bar at go ahead and shape it the way you want it and then put the metal to it
Much better, gonna look amazing! .
Your trunk lid is way too high, makes it look like it has a big a$$!
Buy an English wheel and learn how to use it. Watch Ian Rousel
He’s got one at least
You could put a round rod in the middle to create the shape
Polished the wrong side
Make square stock to match bottom, then make two or three and bring to position to trunk lid, then bend metal to shape
Make some internal spars
Have you got a donor car that as roof with a two way curve you could use
You may not be that confident with the English wheel or the time that it takes it, but sometimes you just have to go there.
