►LYRICS - Today
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, in today
Well I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, in today
I can't be contented with yesterday's glory
I can't live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment and now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, in today
Gone forever is yesterday
And I don't believe in tomorrow
I used to dream at a rainbow's end
But it only brought me sorrow
Gone forever is yesterday
(Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine)
And I don't believe in tomorrow
(I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine)
I used to dream at a rainbow's end
(A million tomorrows shall all pass away)
But it only brought me sorrow
(Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, in today)

Liz... I've never heard the last verse as it was sung by The Petersens (and the verse used as a counter-melody over the chorus), nor have seen it in the original music as John Denver performed it (Milton Okun arrangement). Is there a recording where this is performed, or who wrote that last verse? thank you.
@@johndenicola6173 I've noticed the Petersens tend to tighten up lyrics and play with the end of songs. The counter-melody isn't their signature arrangement, but could well be their own as it adds a magical touch for the wedding.
I've just searched and think the last verse appeared in Today Medley by Andy Williams www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/andywilliams/todaymedley.html
@@johndenicola6173 Ah, the counter-melody's on this 1970 Williams version, Denver released it in 1975 ruclips.net/video/GCbSG3j-jbw/видео.html
Thanks so much, Liz.
In a world filled with Kardashians, we find a beautiful glimmer of hope.
Never a truer word spoken 👌🏻
I was trying to figure out a sentiment, but you sir have summed it up completely.
I LOVE that Dad wore his dress blues - true military man and we thank you for your service Sir!
Is that a Space Force uniform?
🇺🇸
Should of had the thunder birds do a fly over!!!!!!
@@Tempus-N0X They did, and Troy Aikman & Joe Buck were pissed !!
That's a US of A Confederate uniform 🇬🇧
I first heard this song as a little boy growing up in a very dysfunctional family. When I first heard this song, it was like God saying to me, "your life is really bad right now, but in the future things will be much better" Later I was adopted by a Christian man, came to faith in Christ, and had to privilege to serve the Lord as pastor and missionary. This song still is one of my favorites. It helps me to remember what God saved me from and all the blessings that I enjoy TODAY!
I have a similar testimony. I was raised in a dysfunctional family. I was kicked out after I gave my life to Christ. I served as a missionary in a number of nations. God brought me a beautiful wife and now I have children of my own who will never know fear and shame. Hallelujah.
Sounds too good to be true..
God is good!
I can not get enough listening to Julianne's magical voice. It is so full of subtle nuances ... Please-please, sing more!
Julianna's voice is so distinctive, fresh and youthful. I have a feeling it will always be that way. This is a difficult song to pull off... especially if you have ever heard John Denver sing it. I think Mr. Denver would be smiling that broad smile of is if he heard this beautiful rendition! Thanks for sharing so much of your music Petersons.
Robert....Yes, John Denver also had a great voice. I loved his songs from way back in the early 70's.
Could I ask you for the original song. I will be so glad if I could have the lyrics of the song, thank you very much.
@@plpetr The folk group, The New Christy Minstrels, recorded this song in 1964. I don't know if they were the first to record it, but it was one of their big hits. ruclips.net/video/3cELsUMcQdc/видео.html
@@marbleman52 OH OMG, I was born at this year. Many thanks for your replay . Do you know who is Robert Fox
?
Yes, Julianne's voice is amazing. I'm pretty sure that she will become a star somewhen. But now is today.
If all families were like The Petersens, world would be a better place.❤️🙏
Everything about this video is so perfect. Ellen, you looked absolutely gorgeous. The vocals were amazing.
The best part of this video was when the Bride whispered "I Love You. Thank-you." to her Father at the end.
Such a beautiful moment!!! Ellen, you’re a remarkably gorgeous bride. Julianne, Katie, Matt, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything more beautiful and well performed. Brought tears to my eyes. Papa Petersen, how proud you must be. Your family is amazing! I love you all! ❤️
This family is absolutely lovely. Words just can't describe how incredible they are.
They're really making the rest of us look bad, tho. >:(
Mr. and Mrs. Petersen must be so proud of their children
What a lovely gesture from your siblings. Congratulations on your marriage, may your life together be long and joyous.
Lovely family
What a beautiful family. I've never been more inspired to have 5 kids and teach them all different instruments.
ABearNamedJohn - they all play the EXACT instrument, talent. Have a beautiful day.
Splendid
4 kids the other one dancing is Jon petersen there dad
74 years old and crying. Bless you all.
I don't have a daughter, but I know if I did I'd never have made it through that dance without balling my eyes out. Dr. Petersen is the man!
Julianne has one of the most distinctive singing voices I've ever heard. Love it. How does one family have so much talent in it, unreal.
Julianne is a like a fairy tale princess.
When so many things are wrong in this world its refreshing to see so much love in one family.
So excited to share this special moment with our RUclips family! This was the song our dad sang us to sleep with when we were kids. We also wanted to thank you all for getting us to 100k subscribers! 2020 has already been such an eventful year, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of it holds. - The Petersens
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶
Спасибо Вам - Вы настоящие!!!
What a quintessential Christian American family an epitome of talent, grace and virtue. A truly Norman Rockwell family, Congrats on your wonderful marriage and may God bless you as a family. Big fan from North of the Border Canada.
Unbelievable, so emotional, I love Juliannes voice, together with you all is wonderful! Thanks for sharing it with us! @The Petersens, is it possible to get your CD in Germany? :)
@@marceljosten6178 They are on Amazon & iTunes.....so should be able to download it there! Just look under "The Petersens".
I was very surprised that the song 'Today' was played and sung at Ellen's wedding. ... My sister Lorna Rae played 'Today' on her flute at my wedding to my lovely bride Jeanne in January 1978, 42 years ago. ... The song was written and played by Randy Sparks of the New Christy Minstrels as part of the soundtrack for the 1964 western comedy film, 'Advance To The Rear.' Hugo Montenegro arranged and conducted the orchestral music for the film. ... I also wore the U.S. Army dress blues uniform in the 1960s, but not at my wedding. ... Thank you, the Peterson's for such beautiful music and the lovely memories.
How on earth can they hold it together so good?!? I sang for my sister on her wedding, both in the ceremony and during the dinner and that was like the most difficult things i’ve ever done
Absolutely beautiful! I’ve said it before, Miss Julianne’s voice is so pure, unique, and refreshing. They way they all harmonize together is mind blowing. Congrats to the newlyweds. Hope you all will continue making such beautiful music together for years to come.
This song has always been wonderfully written, but never sang well. until now. just amazing, Julianne just killed it, and Katie's bit is haunting beautiful....so good. Please record this song!
Thank you Petersens for sharing this beautiful moment & the goodness of this father-daughter relationship.
This is what America should be , God bless and protect this family
I'm not even American but I agree, beautiful family indeed, God bless them.
Used to be much more often and can be again!!!
I totally support you. We have also beautiful culture and families here, but we don't want America looks like us.
But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Everything is beautiful ... the dance, the singing, the music, the moment ... congratulations to you, especially to the newlyweds, with the best wishes!
I'm crying.
I hope I live to see this moment with my own daughter, if it is in His plan it will happen. So special :)
Bless all the Petersens, and may we ALL never forget how great God is :)
How beautiful. I have only recently discovered you as a family and absolutely love your singing. You are such a blessing to this dark world. Congratulations Ellen and Michael 💖.
That was a great choice for the father/daughter dance, and the brother and sisters did it beautifully. Her father ad tears in his eyes. That reminded me of my daughter’s wedding, she surprised me with “Daddy’s Little Girl” for our dance. The thought of it still brings tears of joy to my eyes. In fact it just did again as i was typing this.
Lovely song ..
Such a beautiful song. I remember John Denver singing it. Such a talented family.
What proud parents they must be of 4 beautiful children who look as if they're best of friends. Brings tears to the eyes of this 74 year old old codger.
Her voice is mesmerizing! So beautifully done!
The perfect song for Julianne to lead.
A very proud Dad right there. Beautifully done! :) Also, thank you sir for serving our great country and for the service you do.
One of the sweetest songs in the world made even sweeter by Ellen and the Colonel dancing and Julianne's vocal and Katie's added verse..
i have tears in my eyes, that was beautiful, i love your family and wish you all the best for the future
Awww! Happy anniversary! What a beautiful memory with not just your dad, but your sisters and brother! Family!❤️
I sure love this family. I hit like on their songs so they're saved in my RUclips Like-playlist.
I'm happy for Ellen. May she have a blessed marriage!
Beautiful arrangement of the song!
Sweet. Dad wore his USAF Mess Dress and it still fits well.
Not addressing the Absurd level of talent.... Rarely do you see an entire Family this Handsome. Good genes all around folks. God bless...🙏
This is a true thing to envy. A beautiful family. That's the most important thing in life, something no money can buy. A beautiful family rooted in faith and tradition. God Bless you, thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
katie's voice is so beautiful !
I love this! I walked down the aisle to the John Denver version at my wedding. It was my Mom ‘s favorite song. It was like having her there from Heaven😀💕
Wow, so cool. A great song... Perfect dancing.
It was so emotional, and for sure, I had tears in my eyes.
You're a great family, so much love and harmony...
Congrats to Ellen and Michael....
I wish you happiness and that your love for each other never stop...
Thank you so much for sharing it.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a beautiful bride. What a lucky guy her husband is.
Best wishes to Ellen and her husband. It is always a plaisure to see your family ... from France
Mama and Papa Petersen, you have raised a tremendous family. You should be so proud of all of them.
Apart from a lovely video , what a great version of that song . Brilliant 👍👍👍
How wonderful!!Ellen is her father's daughter. She looks like him the most among the siblings...
I can't resist saying that Julianna is shining so brightly here!
That's one (rightly) proud Dad! Congratulations Ellen! Julianne sings like a nightingale who's met Dolly Parton! All the Petersens sing and play beautifully.
This, and Katie and Emmett's duets, sound like they could be the start of a Petersen pared-down slow album... think two/three people, back porch, professional mic. Simple, soothing and perfect for these times
Add other lullabies like Stay Awake, Rock of Ages and Ellen's softer voice, and you're almost there
@@Liz.Newton totally agree. Hope they'll do it. It should be impromptu like Katie and Matt did singing "Annie's Song". Throw a blanket down, sit on a dock, brother and sister singing with a Colorado blue sky and the breeze blowing through their hair. Precious family moments, so genuine, shared without fanfare, just the joy of being together. What every family longs for. This one fits the bill.
So much natural talent, and beauty in this family! ❤️💯
To be honest I have never heard that song before and it was Beautiful. While watching the video I was reading the commits and that is what brought tears to my eyes all the kind words that was blessed upon your family. Thank you everyone.
Good morning.... This makes me positive crying... When I see how strong is the band of your family... All the sisters and brother sing for her sisters wedding
Just beautiful shows how devoted they are to each other love how Julianne Katie & Matt finish in the round to top it of brilliant
Great video !!! ... and I have to say it again and again, HER voice enchants me again and again. Magic!
That's so beautiful. Julianne has such a beautiful and unique voice. She's the Robin Gibb of the Petersons. Unique and talented in a family of very talented people.
Music shows how much children love their father and their sister. There is so much love and sincerity in the singing, in the voices the golden light of loving siblings, they cross human borders and show what people could be. Many thanks
I have listened perhaps hundreds of times, thank you so much for the beauty which the song bring ;-) Congratulations
Ohhh... How lovely!
From the Netherlands I wish Ellen Petersen and Michael Haygood much love and hapiness.
I hope the first year of their marriage was a happy one.
Congrats Ellen,And first and foremost thank you Mom and Dad for investing in this most talented family,God bless you all and waiting on your next video..
Julianne did a wonderful job in bringing out the beauty of the lyrics 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much for the wonderful music The Petersen family gives to the world!! To Lt. Col. Petersen, this Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) (retired) renders a salute and a hearty thanks for your service.
The Colonel seemed as happy as Ellen.
I was never in the service, but for an AF guy isn't that silver glob designate for a Lt. Col ? Doesn't look like a bird for full Colonel. Agree on the sentiment :)
@@lylestavast7652 Light colonels are often addressed as "colonel" just as naval Lt. Commanders are addressed as "commander" as a courtesy and for brevity's sake. But yes, he sure looked like a Lt. Colonel to me.
@Dan Thomas Exactly!
@Dan Thomas I've also heard of land service captains aboard naval vessels addressed in the wardroom as "major" because a ship has only one captain. If the commander of the naval vessel is of a lesser grade than a four stripe captain he's still addressed as "captain."
@@BillB23 And in the British Army too. Just had fun decoding the shoulder board before I saw the comments. Well done Colonel - that's quite a family you've got there...
My best wishes to Ellen and Michael, and all of the Petersens. And Emmett!
So happy to be one of the 100k subscribers! Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us.
That was bloody precious, I'm still crying, God bless you lot! Absolutely precious
My Grandma and Dad always sang this too. Love. Love. Love.
i just discovered this AMAZING Bluegrass Band,. So clean and pure and what beautiful voices. I love you guys!
There’s that magic voice again! WOW!!
One of my favorite songs by Mr Denver
This makes my heart break thinking of my childhood memories. Julianne's voice is a feeling, it's so beautiful. The Petersens are truly a gift for us all.
Очень красивая семья! Глава семейства замечательный отец, создавший такую семью! Безмерно уважаю его!
Да, потрясающе! Красивы и внешне, и внутренне, и голос!
Touching video and song. "Today" has always been one of my favorite songs. Written by Randy Sparks, of the New Christy Minstrels in 1964, as I recall. My favorite rendition, until now, was by Bobby Goldsboro [who, by the way, played guitar for Roy Orbison]. Julianne and Bobby both have an innocence and purity in their voices. Same kind of vibrato, as well. Well done, folks. Just knocked Bobby off his perch.
Hope you and Michael have a long and happy life together, Ellen.
This just took me way back, we sang this in Girl Scouts .... such a beautiful song. Thank you for such a beautiful memory !!
Chills from the first note of the vocals. Very well done. I've always enjoyed the John Denver version of this song, thanks for giving me a new one to enjoy.
Once again you have brought tears of joy to my old troubled soul. This is one of my favorite songs. God has given your family a special gift. Please continue sharing with us!
I've been to my daughter's father daughter dance and it's a very special moment.
Such a beautiful memory and song.
God bless the man that invests in his family. Beautiful.
I think that was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen.
The Petersens = National Treasure!
Class, yes sir Ladies and Gentlemen you've witnessed Southern Civil Class Style and Grace raised right the gentle ladies and gentlemen worked hard for what they have let that be a lesson to all - God bless and goodnight.
Can't believe this was ten months ago, so proud of what you guy's have accomplished in this crazy year!
As a Daddy to two beautiful Daughters, this has me crying! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL❤❤❤
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them- Psalm 127:4 This man is truly blessed!
Beautiful bride, beautiful song and dad beaming with pride. It doesn't get much better than that. Happy anniversary. Enjoy the little moments.
Outstanding, Sir. You've raised a family to be proud of. Congratulations, bride Ellen, and the family Petersens, y'all are class A. Richly blessed. There's still hope in the world.
Julianne’s smile and the way see watches the dancers says it all.
This is wonderful. 🙏
This video brings tears to my eyes.beautiful version of a great song.i listen to this at least twice a week
So Beautiful Colonel. Well Done to you and Mrs. Petersen on a beautiful family. An Amazing family and I can't wait for the opportunity to visit Branson one day to listing to your family. This video warmed my heart.
Thank you Petersens for sharing a monumental video moment in your history.

Julianne, don't take this the wrong way, but your voice has become otherworldly. Few things in life can stop me in my tracks, I'm a fairly stoic person, but my goodness. You have the talent to move souls.
Thats true, she doesnt have the best voice, but for some reason it got me off guard and im also a very stoic and stuborn person
What a proud father. God bless them all.
