i been playing in front of a grocery store for years and i can't believe i forgot about this song. Will learn tonight and have roughed for the moorw, god willin iT IS is such a celebration of being human.
Absolutely splendid. David sounds great. Anne Clark just looks so cool leaning against the sax player until she "patters" over to the mic to sing backup. And what a great solo from her. This band has such talent. Great video, great show.
Honestly I'm not sure I can agree. It's fantastic, yes, but the studio is _flawless_ There is something about the organic nature of live vocals, though. I think it resonates deeper within our brains
One of the best songs of all time, performed brilliantly by the genius Byrne, and backup vocals by the goddess St. Vincent. Life doesn’t get any better than this
Absolutely the best rendition of Strange Overtones I have ever heard him or anyone else do. Fucking incredible with the horns and Annie. David's voice gets better over time, and his phrasing is unmatched. I am only sorry I missed this tour. I hope this was recorded for a live album, I smell CLASSIC!!
Someone in twitter linked to this song in April ‘21 and i have been obsessed with it since-learning the chord structure, melody, and the pure pleasure of playing and singing slong with the studio version. THEN I discovered the several live versions on youtube, fell in live eith St Vincent, and been playing along with it all almost daily ever since.
Bloody brilliant, one of my favourite tracks on Everything that happens will happen today, I love David Byrne, I'm quite new to St Vincent but I like her 😋
Byrne is Byrne - always inventive and a great voice. And Annie - well she's not only great as a singer, performer and guitarist, but damn, she's adorable.
I wake up every morning I hear your feet on the stairs You're in the next apartment I hear you singing over there These beats are out of fashion This groove is 20 years old I saw you lend a hand to The ones out standing in the cold Strange Overtones in the music you are playing I'll harmonize It is strong and you are tough But a heart is not enough Put on your socks and mittens It's getting colder tonight A snowball in my kitchen I watched it melt before my eyes Your song still needs a chorus I know you'll figure it out The rising of the verses A change of key will let you out Strange overtones though they're slightly out of fashion I'll harmonize I see the music in your face That your words cannot explain Strange Overtones in the music you are playing We're not alone It is strong and you are tough But a heart is not enough
I celebrated my bday in 2013 with my significant other and this magnificent concert at the Vittoriale Anphitheatre in Salo' Garda Lake ... PERFECTION !what a Stunning DUO
I saw them in Santa Barbara. Thanks for uploading it. A fan behind me kept saying "Strange Overtones, Strange Overtones, Strange Overtones, util they played it. Great song!
Never missed horns so much as when I hear them in songs like this. Annie's playing toward the end of the piece seemed to reach back through the years and I got a little nostalgic for some of those sounds from years gone by. Wow! What a great ensemble. If not for RUclips I would not have heard any of these collaborations. Not sure how it took me this long to hear this. This is some of the best 'feel good' music out there.
saw these guys play this at the 'end of the road' festival last year, and it was so perfect. It became our little crews ear worm for the weekend. thanks David Byrne and St Vincent for a great show.
Probably the most not sure of the word overlooked?, underated?, again not sure, im 57, and heard them in 80,90,s? Not sure, but never really listened. I do now. Alot!! Love these people!
fall in love with life every time i hear this song

This may be the best song I have ever heard.........
I agree.
This was precisely what I thought when I clicked on this song. Then I wanted to like your comments but the likes went down... Already did xD
Definitely it is :)
Not sure why MJ gets the title...I think David Byrne is the king of pop. This song is pop perfection
Absolutely splendid. David sounds great. Anne Clark just looks so cool leaning against the sax player until she "patters" over to the mic to sing backup. And what a great solo from her. This band has such talent. Great video, great show.
at this point I feel like I'll never be over this video
i have seen this maybe 60 times non stop...
David Byrne is a legend. Brian Eno is MAGIC.
Last week did not know this song existed. A week later and it's one of my all-time favs.
It took a week?! 😂 By the end of it I was hooked n dancing around ! I needed this jam.
If you know, you know
You know what’s up when the live version is better than the studio version 😍
Rare
Honestly I'm not sure I can agree. It's fantastic, yes, but the studio is _flawless_

This song always makes me cry happy tears, I have no idea why. I love it so much :) its a happy place for me
I feel ya ! They always said he was strange but when he carries you to a chorus like this or once in a lifetime , you cannot help but let it out 😉
Beautiful words! Same with me.
You're not alone
my go to song
I'm with you, Ashley, and many others too! This is a brilliant performance. Hold on to your happy place and visit often! Cheers to you!

Also David's voice hasn't faltered, brilliant live singer & performer !!!
This is absolutely sublime
I watch this. Again and again.
And again I think: I love Annie Clark. I love David Byrne. And NPR... I so love you.❤❤❤
Has his voice even aged at all???!!! Still strong, smooth and clear.
He's clearly been doing things very right all these years.
By far my favorite song by them!! It's everything, the vibes of the music, David's voice, this one's got it all. 💫💥
Never heard this song before. Excellent, world class performance!

a FUCKING LORD OF ALTERNATIVE MUSIC. GOD BLESS HIM.
I love both of their music individually; together, it is pure bliss on a whole other level. Thanks for sharing this.
this song could be 20 minutes long and I would listen to it on a loop
Byrne is Byrne - always inventive and a great voice. And Annie - well she's not only great as a singer, performer and guitarist, but damn, she's adorable.
This song is so beautiful. All versions.
I wake up every morning
I hear your feet on the stairs
You're in the next apartment
I hear you singing over there
These beats are out of fashion
This groove is 20 years old
I saw you lend a hand to
The ones out standing in the cold
Strange Overtones in the music you are playing
I'll harmonize
It is strong and you are tough
But a heart is not enough
Put on your socks and mittens
It's getting colder tonight
A snowball in my kitchen
I watched it melt before my eyes
Your song still needs a chorus
I know you'll figure it out
The rising of the verses
A change of key will let you out
Strange overtones though they're slightly out of fashion
I'll harmonize
I see the music in your face
That your words cannot explain
Strange Overtones in the music you are playing
We're not alone
It is strong and you are tough
But a heart is not enough
I celebrated my bday in 2013 with my significant other and this magnificent concert at the Vittoriale Anphitheatre in Salo' Garda Lake ... PERFECTION !what a Stunning DUO

I really love St Vincent's guitar solo towards the end.
She's amazing, great partner to David's sound

Feels very Robert Fripp
This song melts me into my seat every time
Cómo puede ser que la voz de Byrne siga tan bella a pesar de los años? qué tipo increíble
The little solo toward the end is even better than usual in this version!
Love Byrne's white hair with his white coat.

One of my favorite songs of all times
What a voice David has
I love Byrne and st Vincent so much. Glad they let the song be and didn't force Annie's vox to be louder in the mix. So great they did this together
Dude still had it....what an unbelievably talented artist.
Made me cry, good way to start the day.
Definitly agree!!!
Simply sublime Byrne/Eno...
out of fashion? well.. still right on the spot!
This is the best collaboration of all time
I saw this concert. David Byrne is my #1. Now I also follow Annie aka St Vincent.
