Can we talk about how Cassandra changed from a drunken hot mess to the best person of all? -She modded her car to get Roland to drive too (even though she admits it helped with the parking permit), so he could become a bit more independent. -She offered her support to Mary, even though she wasn't friends with her. -She bought Mary a beautiful prom dress and she also hit up Patrick and gave the final push for their relationship. I love her so much.
She also is the first person to rush to Hilary Faye's aid when she crashes her car at the end despite all of the cruelty that was dished out at her. A truly good person.
I think that's the whole point, in this movie that is a criticism of organized religion (as well as prejudice in general). She is the "sinner," not just by Christian standards but, as a teenager that drinks, smokes, is presumably promiscuous, disrespects authority, and so on, even by secular society's norms. But in reality she is the kindest and most caring character in the movie, offering help and kindness to those in need, such as Mary through her pregnancy, Rowland through the abuse he gets from Hillary, and even Hillary when she hit bottom and rammed her van into the Jesus statue. Meanwhile, Hillary is the "model Christian," seemingly perfect in every way, is looked up to by her classmates and seen as a leader by the adults, but in reality is a total jerk.

She has a heart of gold on the inside. THAT’S an example of real character development

She looks like Pat Benatar in her early years
It was this scene in the movie that I realized that Eva is more than just a pretty face. She has a heart of gold
She reminds me of Pat Benatar's young photos.
Cassandra was the best character in this entire movie. She is my hero.
Cassandra, the kind of friend we all need.
The hug is what Mary needed
I adore their friendship.
I miss being young in the 2000's. These actors are my age. Yeah, almost 40. Dang!
2:07 "Cassandra" really looks like her REAL mom, Susan Sarandon
Eva Amurri.
Omg is that her daughter?? They look identical
@@3llevate Fun fact: Jena Malone played Susan Sarandon's daughter in the 1998 movie Stepmom. Great movie
Missed this a true gem. If your every looking for a good coming of age story check mark this
RUclips Movies needs to add this to their roster. I have it but only on VHS. 😢
😢
It's on Tubi for free.
I have it on DVD and it's on Amazon Prime now!
Done
Nothing against Santa, but Mary's sweater is ugly. It's not uncommon anyway.
It's been about 18 years...They should make a sequel/reboot. All the cool kids are doing it!
How could you skip the fashion show scene?! It completes this beautiful scene!
1:17 When Mary's demeanor happens. What was that agitating, frustrating breakdown attack for of her?
Can someone describe what dean looks like,I’ve never seen this and I don’t know where to watch it so please?
Mary and Cassandra and Rowland for her when she was there for her
Mary was afraid to tell her mom she was pregnant
She shouldn’t of been afraid
Think the Virgin Mary could have used a Cassandra?
