In the scene Chas has just been thrown into the ceiling by an invisible force. John Constantine creates an invocation using the Alchemical " Red King " symbol tattooed on his arms to 'make that which is invisible visible' so the symbol refers to this as bringing the shadow "fully into the light" Gabriel was the hiding as the shadow, john wanted to scan the room to see who was the helper or the demon ( mammon ) and end it up being Gabriel, that's why Gabriel says " Your ego is astounding."
@@SHabbIZZLEx wait didn't you u take this scene for exactly what the original poster described? well apart from the info about the tattoo symbols on his forearms the scene itself is pretty much self explanatory isn't it?
One of the most underrated movies. This is my favorite scene by far. Topped off by the pettiness of the Lucifer to save his life because he knew his sacrifice gave him salvation. So he saved his life so he could mess up again. Chefs kiss
That first shot is so cool. The pan around while he cuffs his sleeves. The camera anchoring on him with the long hallway in the background. The way the darkness consumes the room.
I always thought he was summoning some op evil entity with that tattoo and was just interrupted by Gabriel. The spell just looks too badass to just be undoing some invisibility.
Im late af but seeing as angels are originally supposed to be too much for the human eye to see i kinda do see it as a cool spell because he is revealing all. That spell could probably work on many demons and supernatural entities to full on show their appearance.

The ability to not just reveal something, but to *command* it to reveal itself is really good by human standards. But, from the actual Constantine's perspective, this is some baby shit for sure.
I dont know if anyone ever noticed but the shot at 0:32 when gabriel comes down and has constantine underfoot is exactly like the paintings and sculptures of archangel Micheal with satan under foot. Nice little homage.

@@timfisher1588 It's not exactly comic book accurate John Constantine, other than his personality and is much more Christian focused, but it's a great movie/version of the character. One of my favorite films generally and I'm hype for the sequel.

can someone lead me to a link or explain to me ALL of the abilities/skills Constantine displayed in the movie? I know the animated films usually explains what he did, but in the movies not so much and it got me curious.....very, VERY curious.
If I had to sum it up quickly he’s pretty much Dr. strange except instead of regular magic he deals in occult and dark magic. It could be argued that even with the infinity gauntlet he could still give Thanos a run for his money. Mostly though he’s a liar and a con man who betrays everyone. He was lever enough to play Batman at one point so that should give you some idea of how good he is at manipulation
This is a revealing spell altough the excact name of the spell isnt known it forces the entity to reveal itself wether it is evil or good. Notice the light of the pool and the dark spot on the left... judging from the lights and the other dark spot that shadowy spot should't be there. also the fact that he already had reduced Mammon's influence but Chaz was still being killed he knew there was someone working behind the scenes.
@@SHabbIZZLEx what he does in this scene is a spell that is used as protection is called speculum veritatis is the symbol that carries in his arms, the symbol is used for protection and invoke the angel that protects you
No, in this scene Chas was killed by an unseen force. John uses a spell to bring whatever hides in the shadows, into light. Hence why he says "into the light, I command thee." Gabriel the arch angel, was hiding in the shadows. Gabriel was the one who wanted to bring Mammon onto earth to cause destruction in order to scare humanity into earning their way into heaven. He believed that God's love and forgiveness should be rightfully earned. He despises God's mercy for humanity.
Constantine: I cast invisibility purge.
Invisible Gabriel: Are you @#$%^ serious?

Also there is power of entities in knowing their names / identities which is why demons try to hide them
