I can't wait to see Joe live! May 2023 in the UK!! A friend got me a ticket for my birthday!!!
Joe, it is obvious that you really, REALLY, love what you do -- and that in itself is a gift -- to all. Thanks for sharing.
Touching humility from Joe...
+Simon Tittley Exactly! I was very surprised to hear him say he thinks his playing is overrated
You kick ass. Looking forward to the new record.
Thanks for all the extra effort you put in to connect with us.
I always enjoy Joe... alive, intelligent and great communicator , with his guitar and with his words.
Happy New Year from
Alberta
Dave
Joe, I really like how so down to earth you are. That's why you are in my top 5 favorite guitarist. Thank you for all the great music. Cheers.
I have the Overrated Special and I think it sounds great! I know it was designed to be used with a Tweed amp already driven by cranking the volume but I find the pedal sounds great for a gain setting with the Gain at 3 o'clock, Frequency at Noon, and the Tone at 2 o'clock, and the Volume depending on your personal amp. I should note that the Tone knob is very sensitive! I'm also using a Fender '59 Bassman Tone Master with both channels blended, and a Epiphone Lazarus '59 Les Paul so that's probably why it sounds sonically correct, but I like to have my amp clean and my gains at my feet whenever I need them.
Thank you Joe for taking the time to video this.
saw this this morning by fluke, went to the local shop, saw one, immediately put it on my account, used it on the gig tonight and already can't wait to use it on the gigs and lessons tomorrow! amazing find!
JB,
You should do more of these vids. Absolutely great, thanks for sharing!
You are one of my all time favorites Joe you only get better all the time my friend!
No wonder I can't find a friggin' vintage Fender amp.
ROFL! Hey Joe, you crazy cool, man!
+Jack D. Ripper ha ha ha ha
+Jack D. Ripper I wondering if they could be used all at once! Blow the doors off!
+Jack D. Ripper Mate- many years ago I sold my 40 watt 60's Fender Vibrolux for quite a bit of money. (head only) Wished I had never sold it.It was great - kicked arse even at that wattage thru 2 x 12 inch JBL's. I had it cross channelled with tone circuit cut out. In other words - permanent overdrive.
+Jack D. Ripper I'm thinking of a Mint Fender Twin Reverb I lost years ago for $100 bill in pawn shop. One owner that had only played it a few times at the VFW I got for a trade a flying V & a crate bass amp for The Fender Twin lol I know i was an idiot .
I just got the pedal and I love it. I'm driving a Blackstar and it sounds awesome!
Lol I can just imagine how many pedals guitars and amps joe has ordered during covid 19 lol
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I somehow lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Gideon Jake Instablaster =)
@Dustin Pierce thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Dustin Pierce it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
@Gideon Jake You are welcome :)
I got one of these, they work well in many applications, not just driving a loud tube amp. They work well direct thru a cab sim, driven by a fuzz, all kinds of things. Clear definitive dirty rhythm.
Joe, you ain't overrated. You're fucking awesome. You got heart and real finesse. Thankyou for your music.
Most guitar players have enormous trouble using highs , but the difference is I found great highs that sound sweet where before the highs were harsh and blaring too much.
It can be done so the highs sing sooo awesome and beautiful you have a very versatile sound now !
Its very hard too to get the voicing right but big bottom end notes with singing highs are the bomb imop !
Well said. Removing the highs sounds great in a bedroom, but live you need those suckers or your sound will just be muffled
Some 12ax7 tubes are amazing , the Tungsram ax7 pushed never has a bad note and the harmonics are amazing especially the beautiful highs like no other tube.
Thin focused sounding amps try a GE 5751 as this tube has the fat sound like no other ax7 or 5751 can compare.
A amp sound that will not sing in the highs limits your playing very much.
Also my glass slide sound needed a bit less highs and a more fatter grinding sustain going on . awesome now
Adjust everything till you get what works best, use you guitar volume too.
I've had to watch this several times I just get lost in the Bonamuseum! I'm not aware of anyone other than Joe worthy of such a beautiful collection. Thanks for sharing your videos Joe!
I appreciate the honest comment at 1:16. LOL. Coincidentally, a previously Joe-owned Dumble was offered up on Reverb for a cool $140K, and it sold within days. It's a testament to Joe's collectabilty but also evidence that he didn't mind parting with his Overdrive Special. Honest dude and a seriously bass ass musician.
Thanks Joe, hope you have a great year.
I got a fuzz yesterday from a friend: a handbuild thing with a russian transistor (or whatever you call it). It's plain silver without any writings, two potis, two buttons, two leds (red & blue). It was build by some dude who never was into music at all. Just a technician who wanted to proof that he can do it. Out came a unique pedal with a great sound. One of a kind. I never liked fuzzes but this thing rocks! Pitty I can't post a picture. Reason why I write this: it looks like the pedal here in the demonstration ...
Joe thank you so much for sharing ..what talent you have and to share it really makes you that much more special ,.i am 69 second generation guitar player ...thank u ❤🇺🇸
These sound killer into, or out of a Ram's head big muff (before for bedroom volume, after for live). Makes a thin sounding 67 voiced single coil bridge pickup sound HUGE. Quick and easy way to get that late 70s/early 80's David Gilmour, or mock-Eric Johnson violin tone.
Nice demo and explanation…many years later I’m going back for one to use with my Gibson GA/8 and Savage Macht 12. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Many thanks, Joe!
Well Joe, sitting here in Jordanville N.Y. picking away on my Music Man Silhouette pondering what amp will do the best job for me. I sold my Peavey Delta Blues. I love a 15" speaker pushing all that air. The problem I had was the weight of it. Where I lived before moving back to upstate N.Y. was a city that had lits of clubs that were either second floor of basement and lugging that amp around got to be a real chore. I began considering a Roland Blues Cube. For a solid state amp they sure are responsive and even sag like a tube amp. But.... Now I am retired so I guess something small like a Deluxe will work.
In front of 1p camera "I am gonna grab a Les Paul here..." Picks up a 59....I love Joe. And, the guy honestly stands behind his products, plugging but as honestly as possible as well....
Funny to hear Joe be so humble...he never has a "bad" night... I am a terrible guitarist, I too have good days and bad days. Mostly bad! But the good days are th e ones that keep you going.
You’re right Joe. A lot of the old school effects got it right without digital anything. I wish you would crank up the Park amp in the background. I’ll bet it’s glorious. I know it’s a rebranded Marshall but it has all kinds of mojo.
would love this pedal joe! thanks for posting your setup and glad you are practicing!!!
Wow great slide tone..as well as a really good overdrive tone in the hands of a great player = Awesomeness!!
I just purchased one from Sweetwater. Can't wait till I get it .
I hope you do more of these videos!
Now that's a Proper Man Cave.
Dam Strait sir!
Does it have a fridge?
Fantastic sounds!!! This goes straight to my collection of links about gain and preamp pedals.
I love the Pork Loin though. I haven't had it on my board in probably 6 months, but I'll never get rid of it, it just has too many applications.
Beyond the clean boost and overdrive functions, it can REALLY be indispensable. I have several amps at this point, between an early 80's Dumble and modified Plexi clones I built, and the 20W JCM 800 Jubilee i aquired last month, I don't foresee needing anything else for a long time, and beside using clean boosts and couple of ODs I use to color the amp's tube overdrive, I get all my dirt from the amps.
However prior to that, while amps always came and went, I pretty much relied on Fender Blackface and a Silverface Pro Reverb, and got 80% of my dirt from pedals. Certain types of pedals, especially Big Muff type fuzz just didn't work well at all in them. The square, boxy scooped midrange just made them thin and harsh sounding. But the British voiced preamp in the P.L. after the muff made the Muffs sound like they were meant to.
They REALLY make fender type amps MUCH more versatile.
Thanks for this clip and thanks for the fantastic show at the Sydney Opera House last night. Come back to Australia soon... Please! PS all those dollars I've spent on pedals.....damn!
5:13 Joe flipped us all off, but it sure sounded good.
I like Joe. Seems like a guy that wouldnt care if i showed up with my taditional and my combo.
Traditionals are exceptional guitars. The only good factory guitars from Gibby during a long period of shitty Standards...
That's one amazing tone, Joe. Now all I need is a '55 Bassman :D And yes, you gotta run it into an amp with a little gain (maybe not even as much as you had there, but a little tubey crunch) to get that violin tone thing happening. Your phrasing isn't hurting a bit either. Working on that. Thanks!
Great interview Joe! Thanks for sharing with us
To me it almost sounds like a light fuzz. I really like it! You're a monster player, Joe!
I have a strong feeling this souded awesome in person, but the recording of it didnt do it justice. great playing, Joe.
I,d love to see the amp collection!!
It would take me weeks to make it out of that room.
+Nano B He's a hoarder, but at least he hoards awesomeness :)
Nano B i see you on tons of yt gettar vids
Pentatonic Burst Yeah, it's a habit :)
Awesome !!......Thanks for sharing your passion with us !!..........Just subscribed !....
"I believe my playing is overrated"
Good guy thing to say.
Yes and I just commented on that 😂 He's a really good Guy I think and I've been listening to him for a very long time and he hasn't changed at all to me. Wait.... yeah he's changed....he just keeps getting better and better if that's even possible !
Thanks Joe :) Wish I could get one here in New Zealand!
5 years later, I’m still loving it. I think it’s funny he said the klon was like 2k then, now it’s pushing 6k for it. 😂 I bought his pedal for like 100$ too bad his didn’t blow up like the Klon huh
Do you use it as an "always on" pedal or just kick in when you need that specific tone or for leads?
I Got a 1958 410 tweed Bassman. The OT and speakers were replaced sometime after 1974. I got it in brown vinyl tuck n' roll with well-beer-soaked foam padding...over 35 years ago, as a teenager. I stashed the logo and striped off the cover, and it is still raw wood. It did not work, so I took it to the guy who used to answer the tube amp questions in the back of Guitar Player Magazine, Roy Garnache of EAR Audio (and California Speaker Repair before that). It needed a few caps and tubes (RCA's) and he sent me home (with a little ticker-type readout that said "48 Watts, RMS") saying "Do you know what this is?" When I said no, he said "Keep it, you'll be glad you did when you grow up". DOH! The OT is from a '62 Bassman (4-OHM), the rest is stock other than a couple caps and a tube socket or 2. The 4 speakers have a 1974 date stamp (ceramics). It has a Grove Tubes plugin solid state rectifier. I like to plug it into a 412...and everyone who has ever heard it, over many decades, cannot believe what it is and how hot it sounds. Handles distortion boxes very well...ahem...LOL! If I can find a place to play that loud, nothin' beats it! (OK, never tried a Dumble, but I'm happy). Keep Rockin' Joe!
Thanks for the info on that. That's the#1 question with all my pedals, what we're they designed to be used with and for. Thanks again.
Well it makes total sense to have a drive/boost (always on) box to sort out the dramatic difference in British EL34/84 based amplifiers that have mid-range to spare oppose to the typical American 6L/6V based amplifiers that mush out pretty easily in the same way that classic British amps woof out in that lower mid-range area. Depends upon tone stack settings and definitely even more importantly what speaker(s) are being used. Not enough players pay enough attention to trying out and also mis-matching speakers. Obviously I know Joe isn't that sort of player, Is there anything that you've not tried Joe?
Outstanding practical gear review. Way better than most. 👍🏻
Good one! No ones and zeros! Nice playing nice pedal and great room!
Wow! a pedal that works just right when I have my vintage Fender Deluxe cranked, and want a hair more gain! How incredibly useful :-/
'None of this is legally binding' !!! Haha!
Jason Mcclaren so funny right.
my god Thats so funny.ohhh man i laugh
I missed the 'None of this is legally binding' disclaimer first time round. Nearly wet myself laughing when I caught it second time round. Good to keep a sense of humour for the tube trolls .
Excellent demo and I'm getting one
First, this sound is awesome but I cant really tell much if any difference in the pedal on vs. off...at 4:59
JB is THE MAN
Awsome Joe....thanks for that!
I love it! I might get one and it and my small clone will be my pedalboard.
Absolutely great, thanks for this :)
I wish joe would post more videos. I find that vintage gear so interesting
The amp already sounds really good! 👌
Love this guy!!! Saying he is overrated!! Ha ha!!! ! Joe is a unique talent!!
Thanks Joe.
Thanks Joe The pedal sounds great.I got a little moist listening to it.😎
That penatonic run damn that's good stuff
Great sounding pedal...love the way it pushes the tweeds. Can't get one for $199 anymore. Looks like I'll have to wait until the price tops off and the RI comes out. It appears the original 1000 are sold, and the cheapest I can find one now is about $385...amazing what hype can do :O)
do you ever think i am the luckiest man alive sitting in that room just playing away?
"With this les Paul here" (an original 59' les Paul out of a 55' tweed deluxe)
Thanx Joe...
Mr. Excess is such a geek!
Joe which celestions do you put in your Bassmans? I put warehouse green berets in the bottom but the magnets are too big for the top two positions.
Love Nerdville!!
Joe- thank you for taking up the mantle of standard bearer, riding out in front of the "analog army", where every guitar's a Les Paul, and every amp has tubes- just like God and Leo Fender intended.
You Rock Joe !!!!
Hi joe, just found your channel , great videos
What was the Sunburst Telecaster in the corner when you flipped the screen so everyone could see the amps? Just curious b/c I love Telecasters
Sooo great and awesome you are JOE❤️ I🌹💕🌹Y
Like EJ's tone ♪
You're awesome man
That Park is cool too....
Wow Joe. You are man after my heart. I also usually have my Blonde Bassman in the background of my videos. I almost always use my 1959 or 1960 Bassman amps coupled with a blackface Super Reverb with a decent amount of reverb. I'm getting ready to demo a new overdrive called the Peacock drive by Missing Link Audio out of Atlanta. This Way Huge pedal sounds very cool too although I am usually trying to get a cleaner signal with a clean boost pedal. All I have used for years after I sold my TS 808, was the OCD. Does the Overrated clean up?
wow bud. want a cookie
that almost sounded sarcastic
Running it into a way huge fat sandwich. Absolutely fantastic! Great pedal for putting a midrange edge on any overdriven sound.
Just think 🤔 Joe said he thinks his guitar playing is over rated 🤣 Now Joe Bonamassa !!! For real 🤣 This man ain't a force to be reckoned with....He is the FORCE 😂 and that's my story and I'm sticking to it !!
I saw on another video where they claim the Green Rhino is a modded Tubescreamer. I was surprised by this, I thought it was an original circuit.
Joe pulls a good sound with or without the Overrated Special. I’m surprised he is playing the OS into a reverb unit and then into a Tweed Deluxe.
Master.
I really need to know where I can get a t-shirt just like that!
Oh, I really appreciate your knowledge of guitars and gear!
That was from the Guitar Gallery in Canonsburg Pennsylvania USA.
I’ve been thinking about trying out this pedal and a bassman, just have a question. I’ve been looking for a rig that’s a “one stop shop” for all styles of music, including metal. I heard you make a comment in an interview that when you first switched on the new rig and was messing around you said something like, “Wow! I could use this and go play with Slayer!” Would it work well for a metal you think? I play a lot of other styles as well, but primarily metal when it comes to guitar.
That amp room.. Is worth more than I am.
Imagine being a pedal maker - Way Huge in this case. Joe B. not a fan of the Klon, not a fan of the Tube Screamer, and I can only imagine Joe and his Team went through countless setups looking for that perfect tone that Joe will use on his albums and on stage. He lands on this pedal by Way Huge (the Overrated Special, ironically as Joe mentions he feels his playing is overrated - which of course is like Einstein needing to brush up on his math). The Way Huge folks must have been pretty dang stoked that day!
Joe, when are you coming back to Australia?
no one's or zero's were harmed , binary, you are a geek!!!! that was hilarious!!!!!
Hi, How does this compare to the Lazy j cruiser Deuce pedal?
Joe's the Nicest Kid on the Block
Howdie from Sweden Mr Joe Bonamassa!
I fell in love with that pedal after a few riffs only, but I can't seem to find one to purchase, anywhere. Are they discontinued for good?
All the best and so much more!
Would love to see you play the Tal Farlow at some point.
Joe, can you do a tour of Bonaland sometime? We want to see the amp collection. Looks like it's hard to walk around, though. You need a warehouse. :)
I don't use pedals anymore but I used to collect them. However, if I were to suggest anyone, only two words come to mind: Marshall Guv'nor
Joe this overdrive sounds the way it does on Your Gear...believe me it will not sound the same on mine....but it doesn't mean it might not sound good...maybe even great...have to try it.
