In CA I’ve been able to buy Tequila Ocho Blanco, El Tesoro Blanco, Mijenta Repo. I’ve even seen El Tequileño available. I got lucky this week and was able to pick up a El Tesoro 85th Anniversary at my local Costco.
Agree - The blanco and reposado Kirkland tequila has additives according to my tastebuds. The blanco/silver is good for making mass margaritas, palomas, etc. for a party but not for real tequila aficionados. HOWEVER, their whiskey and bourbon is good and comes from quality producers in the industry.
I live in LA area and my local Costco is currently carrying tequila ocho blanco! I have also found el Tesoro blanco once, but they rotate what they carry
Our costco in vegas has wayyyy more liquor. But i attribute that to me just living in las vegas. We have cazadores, 1800, patron, don julio, clase azul, a lot of the mainstream brands just marked down from most liquor stores prices
my costco has Tequila Ocho, Mijenta, codigo, el tesoro, and cycles through similar ones every now and then. it goes downhill from there. They always have Patron, Herradura (which I sort of like), and Don Julio
The Kirkland french vodka is the standout. It's both cheap and very high quality. Pretty much all the other kirkland liquors aren't both cheap and high quality.
Maybe in Massachusetts the Costco tequila selection is limited at best, but in California it’s actually quite diverse. I’ve seen Don Julio (not 1942), Patrón, and they’re even starting to stock Mezcal. I even saw Ojo de Tigre there once. I’ve never bought alcohol there before because at most Costco locations in Southern California require a one-time-only pass to buy at the membership stands. It’s just not worth it.
I only buy their Anejo version for mixed drinks. For sipping I get other brands... Their bourbon lately has been 1792 Distillery and their Speyside Scotch 23year is exceptional. Just got to watch and pick as they change up the distillers and unless you track label info hard to notice.
Definitely have a better selection at my local store in Los Angeles, guess their stock varies from location a lot. I was able to get Mijenta Reposado and the El Tesoro Blanco at mine
Haven’t tried Ocho or the Mijenta, only one I’ve tasted yet was El Tesoro, pretty good. I also bought this Kirkland reposado, finally opened it up last night and not the best quality by any means. But if your looking to use a cheaper option for mixed drinks still prefer this over Sauza or Jose Cuervo.
NEVER stop telling the truth, Lui my man! It kinda saddens me that, THAT was the most requested tequila in the comments overall. People really just wanna be cheap and buy cheap. But when things like Arette, Cimarron, Tres Agaves, Suerte, Insoilto and Altos exist...I will never truly understand their logic.👌
Because we’re uneducated. Please always give us the benefit of the doubt! We started out with Jose Cuervo, got terrible hangovers, and swore off tequila forever! Now, we are tempted and intrigued by the big focus on “tequila”. Keep banging away at us, we will learn, albeit slowly and carefully.
I recently tried G4 extra anejo and omg it was literally the smoothest tequila I think I've ever tried. It was so smooth there was no alcohol burn. Highly recommend for anyone who has extra cash they don't mine spending
My Costco will sometimes have El Tessoro, Herradura, Suerte, all the don Julio’s including the 1942. All the Patrons. I will occasionally grab the 42. They usually have it for about 140. And I have a dozen other bottles I would rather have for less something still brings me back to it. I just like it.
I have never tried the repo but the blanco……😖I have a circle of friends that always buys it but they aren’t really tequila drinkers. After having it once I woke up with a headache. Thought maybe it was a lack of sleep. Had it a second time with them and was like never again! It gives me a terrible headache again that no real tequila gives me. You definitely get what you pay for in the bad way. Excellent Excellent review! Thank you!
As stated above, the fact you don't do blinds for your tastings definitely has you tasting labels vs the drink itself. Also, the fact you aren't using the Glen properly really has me questioning your opinion. It's a nosing glass, why the heck are you pouring it above the bowl of that Glen... 1-2oz max! You're pouring 4-6oz in that thing!
I don’t know why but I’ve recently purchased a tres agaves repo fell in love with it then got the el Tesoro Anejo for the holiday my mom loved it I thought it was good but still can’t stop thinking of the half the price tres agaves
Thanks for your honesty honestly I see some good stuff with their brand but in general I try to get the stuff that's that's made by a different distributor like in a coffee beans I don't usually love their Kirkland coffee. But there are some other beans that are really good.
Lui, amigo a friend of my wife’s got that Costco tequila for her birthday party and we took shots before going out and that tequila made me so sick that vomitted only a hour into the club. I was not even drunk yet lol! Horrible tequila. Never again. I told them I’ll make the tequila selection next time. Definitely will choose a Additive free option for sure 😂
My Costco in the Los Angeles area has a much greater selection of tequila’s. They always have Kirkland of course and Casamigos. Other brands come and go. I was happy to find El Tesoro anejo there several months ago for $55. Haven’t seen it since. Haven’t tried the Kirkland Reposado and don’t think I will now.
Kirkland ones are best for regular mixed drinks etc not for sipping as you do. Good quality/No Additives are the only ones that you could sip if that’s what’s you’re going for
Yep. I agree with your assessment. I was hopeful that this would be a decent low-cost tequila, but I was quite disappointed from the very first sip. I know that everyone has their own ideas about what they like in a tequila, but this one just missed the mark for me.
I’ll be I Tijuana in about a month and plan on going to the Costco and Walmart stores there t se if they have a better supply of tequila at a better price
I live in California and once asked my local COSCO location if you need to be a member of COSTCO to buy alcohol. I was told no, but if enter the store they check for your COSTCO card. If you don't have one and want to buy alcohol, I've been told that you will be escorted over the the isles with the alcohol and escorted to the check out counter.
Costco is an everything-in-one-place store, so it's safe to assume that they won't have a lot of anything. That said, the Costco by my house has the basics that you found as well as some more options in a locked case; maybe that's where the good stuff is. What can you say? Sometimes you get what you pay for.
My Costco in Mexico carries Don Julio, Maestro Dobel, Cuervo Familia, Volcan, Casamigos, and Kirkland añejo. Bigger selection but still not a great selection.
was at a party, and only tequila was CASAMIGOS!? blanco was bleh, not good... Anejo, actually liked it??? Any idea why their anejo was better, and what should I look for in a good Anejo
Not surprised by your review, I haven’t tried the Kirkland Reposado but that’s what I’d expect from it. There a demographic for it but I’ll pass. At my local Costco in LA I’ve scored El Tesoro, Tequila Ocho and Siete Leguas in the last few months. Definitely lucky to get the good selection here.
Costco's Kirkland spirits/wine are often rebrands (or from the same place) of known quality brands which is why the hype around them exists. But it's not the rule.
It's $16.99/liter here in Colorado. What did you expect? Patron? You should be comparing this with the likes of Hornitos and Cuervo Gold. Btw, what's with the half gallon pour?😅
Espolòn Blanco Don Julio Blanco Sauza Hacienda Silver Herradura Reposado Libélula Joven 1800 Añejo Patrón Extra Añejo Komos Añejo Cristalino Clase Azul Reposado Don Julio 1942 Añejo Can you do a review of these brands please.
Thanks for the review. I think the hype might come because their Vodka is good and believe that is distilled at the same place as Gray Goose. Would you rate it below or above Cuervo? lol
Will you sell the rest of the bottle to your restaurant customers? Maybe you could sell it as a "restaurant rarity" and charge quadruple for it 🤣 Just kidding. To me it's funny seeing liqor sold in grocery stores as overe here (Finland (and Sweden, Norway...)) the sale of booze is government controlled and can only be bought in specific alcohol shops (or 40% cheaper ordering online from Germany...). In grocery stores we only have beers, ciders etc. Nice video though! I liked you being open minded before tasting. Of course everyone has some thoughts/expectations beforehand, but one doesn't have to let them rule the tasting itself. Well done!
Their vodka is probably alright for people who like that stuff, but Tequila and Whiskey require a lot more effort to produce something delicious, and it can’t be done cheap or in massive quantity.
I was one who asked for this! After trying most other tequilas you’ve recommended and then going back to the Kirkland anejo I found it way too sweet and disgusting.
So I think people might be infatuated with this because in general, Kirkland Signature products are pretty good quality at a pretty good price point. That doesn't always need to be true, however. I've never tried it, so I can't talk about it.
I've mentioned before Costco's tequila selection is pretty weak. And although some say their Kirkland is not bad, looking at the NOM shows it's just run of the mill stuff.
I was a Sam’s Club member for years then had to switch to Costco and let me tell you the quality versus Sam’s Club is crap from their cheese to even the pizza they sell it’s subpar to Sam’s Club so for people to think this tequila would be any good just shows how many Costco sheep there are
My wife randomly bought their anjeo when she saw it at Costco. Without asking me. It is SO sweet and cloying, which is why it has taken about 5 years to finish the bottle. Mostly she'll drink it in a Mexican Firing Squad just fine, while I make my MFSs with a tequila that's actually worth a damn.
Some costcos have weak alcohol aisles, unfortunately yours didn't have a good selection. In CA, I've seen casamigos, kirkland, 7 leguas, el tesoro, various offerings of don julio and patron, herradura, and many many more
One of the worst tequilas I've ever had was Kirkland "silver", about 10 years ago maybe. It smelled and tasted almost exactly like a latex glove soaked in rubbing alcohol - rubbery, medicinal, acetone, ethynol... a disgusting mess. I couldn't even get through the bottle before turning it into drain cleaner. I haven't bought a bottle of Kirkland liqour since. Sometimes, the price really is too good to be true.
lui, please bear with us! I, for one, live in Utah…..need I say more? Perhaps you are lucky enough to even have a Total Wine.. Perhaps you are lucky enough to that a Costco with alcohol…. We have the Mormon-run, state-owned liquor store. You are sprinting, while some of us barely crawl.

I need to start tequila hunting at your Costco lol. Good choices!!
Agree - The blanco and reposado Kirkland tequila has additives according to my tastebuds. The blanco/silver is good for making mass margaritas, palomas, etc. for a party but not for real tequila aficionados. Their anjeo is also LOADED with additives as it tastes like cotton candy flavored ethanol. Yuck.
I live in LA area and my local Costco is currently carrying tequila ocho blanco! I have also found el Tesoro blanco once, but they rotate what they carry

You’re doing God’s work thank you. For this video!
My local Costco at any given time will have El Tesoro Blanco and/or Anejo, and recently had Primo. They don’t last long.
my costco has Tequila Ocho, Mijenta, codigo, el tesoro, and cycles through similar ones every now and then. it goes downhill from there. They always have Patron, Herradura (which I sort of like), and Don Julio
Thanks for the review. Costco is famous for their kirkland vodka. I've never tried their kirkland whiskey, tequila, irish cream, etc.
The Kirkland french vodka is the standout. It's both cheap and very high quality. Pretty much all the other kirkland liquors aren't both cheap and high quality.

Try the Kirkland Anejo.
When I bartend events I only recommend the Kirkland tequila as a low cost option but specifically suggest they use it only for mixed drinks.
I only buy their Anejo version for mixed drinks. For sipping I get other brands... Their bourbon lately has been 1792 Distillery and their Speyside Scotch 23year is exceptional. Just got to watch and pick as they change up the distillers and unless you track label info hard to notice.

Agree. I couldn’t believe the Costcos in the LA and Ventura area sell El Tesoro at a great price. Certainly more selection in general.
Just bought a bottle of tequila ocho blanco in Norwalk.
Kudos to Ocho, Mijenta, and El Tesoro. Real tequilas.
I think the 1.75l kirkland blanco is their best house brand tequila (available in Colorado). I agree with your view on the reposado.
Its awful!
NEVER stop telling the truth, Lui my man! It kinda saddens me that, THAT was the most requested tequila in the comments overall. People really just wanna be cheap and buy cheap. Lui, I agree with you on this one. Use for making margaritas, then when empty don’t buy again.
The mix is pretty good for the price. I add a little more Tequila to it, but it saves quite a bit of money.
I have never tried the repo but the blanco……😖I have a circle of friends that always buys it but they aren’t really tequila drinkers. After having it once I woke up with a headache. I picked up El Tesoro blanco at my Costco for $28
Wow that's a great deal!
Great deal! Which Costco?

The Anejo is the only Kirkland tequila that is sippable straight up. The Blanco and Reposado Kirkland tequilas are well liquor meant for mixed drinks.
For the price, the blanco is legit, especially the new NOM.
Casamigos is literally their best option
The Kirkland Anejo tequila is their best option in my opinion.
Thanks for your honesty honestly I see some good stuff with their brand but in general I try to get the stuff that's that's made by a different distributor like in a coffee beans I don't usually love their Kirkland coffee. But there are some other beans that are really good.
Their 19 year Single Malt Sherry cask finished scotch was amazing! But this tequila felt they added a bunch of vanilla extract to it.

I was in Costco Glasgow Scotland getting margaritas today and saw DonJulio 1942 £140
Great video! Question, have you tried La Gritona Repo? If so, what’s your take on it? Thank you and cheers! 😁
My Costco in Mexico carries Don Julio, Maestro Dobel, Cuervo Familia, Volcan, Casamigos, and Kirkland añejo. Bigger selection but still not a great selection.
They say Kirkland is bottled by casamigos
The mix is pretty good but with additives it's better to make your own
Hey Lou, why don’t you use Arette blanco for your well tequila
I used to. But I find that Cimarron stands up just a tiny bit better in a cocktail.
Oh man I was hoping you would try both the Blanco and Anejo from Kirkland.
Much better selection of tequila in Texas. That’s crazy. Thanks for the review. I’ll avoid it like the plague
was at a party, and only tequila was CASAMIGOS!? blanco was bleh, not good... Anejo, actually liked it??? Any idea why their anejo was better, and what should I look for in a good Anejo

What are your thoughts on Avion tequila?
I get Tears of Llorona at the Costco in Charleston- only place I've ever seen it
Please try the Member’s Mark Tequila Añejo!!!!
Lui can you give your opinion on higher end tequila brands like fuenteseca cierto and atanasio
Try El Mayor Reposado and Anejo
The blanco makes me want to throw up when i smell it. I bought a bottle for jello shots. The vodka is good but their tequila is trash!

Lui! Do you know of any auction places that I would be able to auction off a bottle of Lobos tequila signed by Lebron James??
wow i didnt know they make stores this small thought they were all huge warehouses
Espolòn Blanco
Don Julio Blanco
Sauza Hacienda Silver
Herradura Reposado
Libélula Joven

Costco in LA has like 10 different tequila brands, you went to the wrong place.
Good thing I don't live in LA huh.

I've seen pictures where there was Siete Leguas Blanco for like $40
I think the Anejo is better. I heard the repo is not good

How do you live without a Costco membership
Moved to MA recently, definitely the smallest alcohol section in Costco of any state I’ve been to Costco in (HI, CA, MI). Not worth the trip.
Yes, but, at least your Costco HAS any! In Utah, the alcohol aisle is full of soda pop (lots of root beer--can’t allow us to have caffeine, ya know🤭)
So I think people might be infatuated with this because in general, Kirkland Signature products are pretty good quality at a pretty good price point. That doesn't always need to be true, however. I've never tried it, so I can't talk about it.
I had the same reaction when I tried it. Purely alcohol taste.
I've mentioned before Costco's tequila selection is pretty weak.
And although some say their Kirkland is not bad, looking at the NOM shows it's just run of the mill stuff.
Saved me $20!

The blanco is terrible even for mixing with the reposado is not good for sipping the anejo though is fire compares to some bottles 4 times its price
My Costco is the same way with their tequila selection. It's been disappointing to say the least.
100% Agave?
My wife randomly bought their anjeo when she saw it at Costco. Without asking me.

Damn I'm so sorry to hear that. Every state is a bit different and ive heard some crazy things about Utah.
Kirkland is casamigos just renamed
I think you would benefit from a blind taste test. Your opinions seem tainted by labels and prejudgment
He did a video where he put an additive tequila vs a non additive and got every guess correct
There’s still tequilas around 30$ that are also good and Addie free (tres agaves)
