I've had salt water tanks and puffer fish are amazing.
Also for the people wondering about the "Parasite"
I'm 95% sure it's sea weed that got hooked up on one of the fake spines and not a parasite. There was a smaller one dangling from another area that wasn't there later.
And it looks like the plants in the background. So relax.

That poor puffer is in really bad shape... he's starving and covered in parasites. Probably wasn't eager to spend calories running from you. Not likely your "friend". More like, "why does this thing keep following me, eat me or leave me be!"

It’s moments like these that make me cry with joy. I had a similar experience today with a puffer during a drift dive. Too special for words 🥲 I’ve recently become a vegetarian because animals, all of them, are too vulnerable and too beautiful to serve up on a plate. Just look into their eyes, you’ll see. ❤️

@@iamzon2635 it's not there anymore, but interviews I found on storyful and elsewhere say the sad story is the diver found kinship with the fish after her personal struggle with diagnosis of terminal cancer.
I *also* for some reason could NOT let go of the whole parasite thing, so after a couple of traumatic hours on Google I finally found some research papers talking about polyclad flatworms that look a lot like this. However, it seems there's a loosely symbiotic relationship here--eating these flatworms is apparently one way that pufferfish become poisonous.
I just had to share that after...some of the things...i...saw.... shudders
