I loved this book. Read it earlier this year, It was the second seafaring book I ever read but the first that i really loved, I've been looking for more like it ever since. Currently reading the sequel, not enjoying as much but still pretty good.
Thanks for the review Matt. I've been looking for something thematic that could accompany me on my upcoming trip to Hawaii and this sounds like a great candidate.
Great review , loved this one myself. You should try Angus Watson Age of Iron as well. Would love to hear your thoughts on it, another author highly underrated
My only real complaint is that the main POV character, while well realized, nuanced, and shows great growth... He's just king of... Boring... I feel like it got more interesting toward the end, but it does have me hesitant to start the second book
Just found your channel and feel the same way about RJ Barker, Robin Hobb and many others. I would like to recommend The Kings of Paradise trilogy. I think you will love it. Available on kindle unlimited . Ruka possibly the most interesting character I have read in a ing time by Richard Nell
Check out The Red Wolf Conspiracy by Robert V.S. Redick if you’re looking for something else with a nautical setting! It’s not extremely similar to Liveship Traders, but definitely worth a read 😀
Can you answer this question…I’ve read the whole book and I can’t figure out why they saved the sea dragon only to plan on killing it. Can you help explain? Feel free to delete this comment after to avoid any spoilers!
Sure thing! So there were multiple factions of people involved here. On one side, you had both the ruling nations from the west and the east, with captain Lucky Meas' mother being one of them. They wanted to kill the sea dragon to harvest it's bones. Then on the other side, you had Lucky Meas' and her crew which have gone rogue. They want to save it because they believe if no bones are harvested that it will eventually bring peace to the world. However, on the ship, Meas' mother had planted a spy (maybe multiple) who tried to kill the sea dragon anyways. That's when Joron chopped off his hand to stop him from killing it. Does that answer things?
Just finished book one and I can’t wait to start the next, more people need to be talking about this series!
This book has been on my TBR for a while so it’s good to hear you enjoyed it so much!
Awesome, I hope you enjoy it as well!
Picked up the trilogy this week, my next read after The Five Warrior Angels series. Can't wait.
I'm even more excited to read this series now. I loved RJ Barker's Wounded Kingdom Series and would rec'd you pick it up soon!

Nice - what was the other seafaring book?
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik. The seafaring part isn't that big, it's more just a story that happens on the sea
Great review! Glad I’m not the only one who came to this book through the Liveship Trader series
Wow! I was not expecting such a glowing review. You've made me very intrigued - I love a good nautical story

Yeah I can't disagree there, but he really does come into his own in the 2nd and 3rd books.

@@MattsFantasyBookReviews it does thanks so much! I’m starting the second one now!
nice review!
Do you read more than one book at a time?
Thanks!
Yes, I am always reading one kindle book and one audio book. I read ~105 pages in the kindle each day, and ~58 pages on audiobook each day.
I'm shocked. I've read this twice wanting so hard to like it....and I just don't
Yeah everyone has different tastes! I bet you love some stuff that I don't like as well.
Am I the one who thought this was apart of the realm of the elderlings by the cover artwork alone?😂
