Maybe sounds a bit glib, but if you're happy with what you charged, and the customer was too, then you got it right. Always listen to that gut feeling.
People get hung up on pricing but as long as you cover your business running costs etc and you're happy with what your earning, that's all that matters.
Definitely. I do these videos to give people ballpark figures for those who have maybe just started and sometimes to see if I'm roughly in line with others guys. My other leaf pricing video was the first leaf clearance I'd charged for and didn't have a clue haha
Thats a v fair comment ..as long as your happy that's main thing..don't charge what others are happy with its up to you..alot ppl like to BS to rem.the world is full of them I'm afraid..your price seemed fair to me.an a decent job to boot...
Great job. It's good to talk about pricing. Pricing is probably the most difficult things in Gardening. I think you are about right for the time of year.
Thanks Neil. Hopefully these videos help new people (like myself) in the business and give a ball park figure. It's sometimes quite tricky and I'm learning all the time
Spot on with your price for winter work tbh. I’d prob chuck £20 on in the summer though to bring it up to a good round £100. Doubtless someone will be along to say that’s £200 quid all day long and they wouldn’t even get out the van for less than that though.
I would of said 80 for the time of year . I would of tagged another small job in the same day. Also if it’s a new client I’m sure it will attract more work from there
I've been going about 2 years now myself, and obviously still learning too.. I'd have said about £100, you've done a real decent job on that hedge pal. It's hit and miss quoting wise I find. I've lost a few jobs even when I've gone in cheap as cheap can be! Then, I've driven past the place 2 months later and it's still not been done, so they're just time wasters.
Depend on what area do you leave. In Oxford i would charge at least £120 plus 30 to be taken away. Shall I ask you what stihl hedge cutter have you been using?
Only just came across this video but im glad to say i guessed 80pound, i am also starting my gardening career so i find your vidoes very helpful! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Shane. If this was the summer and I was busy I'd have charged more though and don't forget these are rough ballparks... I still mess my pricing from time to time 😵💫
Fair price I feel. 40 ish pounds an hour is fair. Also do you consider a uniform ? Logo polo shirt some work pants and a hat etc ? I’d recommend cuchualainn workwear in Ireland if they deliver. All packages for great value
That was my good waterproof jacket I usually wear. I've got a full uniform but getting it embroidered this week. Don't often wear my work jeans to be fair though.
Nice job chap! That's worth £100 of anyone's money for a one off! 👍. Don't know about you but I'm absolutely snowed under at the moment, need about 12 day in a week 😩! Was hoping to slow down a bit at my age. 🤔
Did a similar hedge in July, but charged double. I'm in the same boat, working out my rates. Rather than time of year, could you quote on how much they want off, a reduction or seasonal prune? Great job!
Hi there, I would usually charge a bit extra I think (especially given some of the comments here) had it not been December and I wasn't dead busy. But yeah, rates can be difficult especially when first starting
I am a gardener also, for that I would probaly charge around £180. Maximum 2,5 -3 hours of work for trimming only as you said, including waste collection. Think how much value you give to a customer. What someone would do with a cheap hedge timmer bought for ex for £70 at B&Q or similar place, no leaf blower, no van to load all that waste. How much time and effort it would cost a person without professional gear.
I would say £75 . If I was taking the waste away £120, if mulching waste and leaving onsite probably £95. Based in Gateshead. Looking at some of the comments might have to increase my prices.
£90. I wasn’t far off😂 Just stumbled across your channel, subbed. Vids like these are great, gives a good perspective, I was thinking I’d be coming in a bit steep!😂
Good advice mate is get a big tarp and put it under the hedge for trimmings if your ever taking waste away ect easier to clean up imo but I would have charged at least £120-£150 and I'm in north east if it was going to be regular maybe on cheaper side a waste carriers license is £265 I think mate for a 2 tier or cheaper if it's just a smaller vehicle I think but works around at £88 per year for 3 years license it might be worth the investment in the long run as I've lost work just on not been able to dispose of the waste when I first started off and some of them were good earners just an idea for you
Hi cheers. Yeah I use a tarp on a lot of jobs. I'd be charging more now for a job like this as I'm nearly full (regulars wise). Great money hedge jobs though for sure 👌
now then mate been watching your vids as my self i started last year invested in some gear just to get me going but reading the comments on peoples prices im either way to cheep or people are having my eyes out

Yes a good job, I'd have said 80 notes so it's in the right area. It's a good video to watch because I'm looking at a hla 56 to buy so it's a impressive bit of kit. What battery 🔋 were you using in it and how long does it usually take to charge it up please? Thanks for a informative video 📹 👍
Cheers mate. So it's an AK20 battery. When I bought it, the whole set came with charger and 2 batteries. I want to say a few hours to charge but can't quite remember as I charge over night and the charger cuts out once it's charged up so it doesn't overheat etc. Battery life is class though. Could cut that hedge 7 or 8 times on 1 battery I'd say. I've got a link in the description anyway if you want to have a look
Both. Rake most of it up then blow back under the hedge. I didn't on this job but sometimes I put tarp down. Easier to mow the clippings up too which I try to do where applicable
It's so hard to quote these days. Low wages high bills. I'd say 80 was okay. 300 if it was high. But without needing a ladder it's okay between 80 to 150 range.
