- Is it possible to enhance sustainability in your lifestyle and be consistent? “Yes”, says Nila Patty. She changed her lifestyle and tells you how you can do the same. Because waste pollution is increasing. Research has even found that in 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. That is disturbing! So Nila is taking action by eliminating her contribution to the plastic soup, and the pollution in The Netherlands. Now the 26 year-old lives a zero-waste lifestyle. She
produces no waste at all. She does not send any waste to landfill or incinerators. It is not that hard; “You can do the same,” Nila says. “Just do it step bystep.” Nila explains this during her TEDxVenlo talk. “I realize that it is not possible for everyone to go zero waste in one go. So I also give tips and tricks on how to reduce your waste. This way you can make a small change to help the planet. Because even the small steps matter.” Nila (26) is a young Indonesian graduate student with an ambition for a more sustainable future. Her dream of getting involved in science was achieved by finishing a Bachelor’s degree education in Life Science at HAN Nijmegen (NL) followed by a Master’s degree in Medical Biology with Science, Management, and Innovation specialization at Radboud University. With a feeling of urgency to change the world, she started to live
without waste since January 2016. This idea of zero waste allowed her to open a new door and start a new network in the green capital team of Nijmegen. She successfully delivered her message to challenge the citizens of Nijmegen to reduce their waste by introducing a 30-day challenge to reduce waste; The Nijmegen Waste Challenge (de Nijmeegse Afval Challenge). She gave workshops and lectures related to the plastic pollution topic. She also provides consultation on waste
reduction from individual scale to institution and company scale. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
