Underrated moment of this playthrough (comparatively, it did make the best of comp): Arin apologizing to the screaming Mario after erasing a save file. Honestly gets me every time.

I have never seen such a complete turnaround with Arin’s attitude in a playthrough.
Well, whether Arin doesn't pay attention or not, the game is slippery AF. Mario slides when he stops, you have to stop moving to exit the game. A lot of it is very hard to play through.

There was point in this play-through where he said he always hated this game and was just pretending to like it for "brownie points."
As someone who is currently on 101 stars, its just a Super Mario 64 thing.

To be fair, it doesn't show any of the menu options for some reason when he pauses at 24:27. So he at least very briefly kinda sorta thought about exiting through the pause menu? But didn't see the option when he actually needed it. Still hilarious that he wasn't already aware the option existed.
@@spencers5898 It only shows up if you pause while you're standing on the ground; it does it that way to stop you from avoiding losing lives by bailing out of levels while you're falling.

Mario 64 reminded me of Majoras Mask because of the graphics and time frame in my life where I used to play them both etc. which lead me to the following thought: "did they ever do a majoras mask playthrough"

I really like that you do your own compilations, often to highlight treasured old series, bringing them back, while allowing good compilation channels to do their own thing. Often they come out somewhat recent to the time of the series, so the way you guys do your own compilations meshes really well with the existing ecosystem.
Arin timing his words of dread with Mario sinking into the quicksand is wonderful.
The way he deleted that game file though.. 😂👌

I actually just finished a 120 star playthrough! This game's a lot harder than I thought XD
This was the series where it became very apparent to me that Arin is terrible at understanding and navigating 3D environments.
I think he's already said he has depth perception issues and this game is the worst for it
And Megaman says the same about 2D games

I agree it's aged terribly from a graphical perspective, and I raged at the jank controls of the DS verison enough as a kid to have sympathy for Arin's struggles with what I imagine is the even jankier N64 version.
That said, I do think he could have done a bit better by being more careful. He doesn't seem to actually look around with the camera a whole lot, and he moves at top speed every chance he gets, so he's frequently running headlong into blind spots that don't have to be blind spots.
I guess when you have issues perceiving what's in the environment you're not very motivated to stop and try to observe that environment.
This has got to be one of their funniest playthroughs.

I remember feel really aggravated when first watching this playthrough, though honestly, the amount of new and unique ways Arin fails in this is masterful. I needed this compilation in my life!

So for some people, things that seem like unnecessary disorder can feel more aggravating than anticipated chaos, even if you can understand logically that real-life order is more complex and accounts for this perceived display of disorder, and that even if it didn't, it still wouldn't have changed anything in your life. Another example would be when people get peeved by a mispronunciation that doesn't change the word and may in fact have different correct pronunciations in different regions.

This was and still is my favorite series I constantly rewatch this when I have literally nothing else, it's the greatest. I really wish they'd return to do all the 100 coin missions (as painful as they are, it produced great content and that's better than none at all)
