    A great surprise in moving to the EU was that my Spanish SIM works in other countries pretty seamlessly. I’ve got unlimited data and it costs under 20€ per month. We really don’t know how bad our cell services are in the US until we find out for ourselves what it’s like in other countries.

    • @TravelingwithKristin

      Yes there’s great coverage and crossover among European countries. Nice perk!

      for sure, US cell phone services have been bad for decades. I travel every 2 years in Europe to see my family, so that's how I know.

    I love all of these different options for getting Wi-Fi on the go. I'll have to remember some of these other options because I have getting more and more inconvenienced by terrible Wi-Fi at hotels lately (here in the US). Thanks for the video Kristin!

    So happy you made this! Awesome info. Verizon offers international data for $10 per day. That's convenient but also an extra $300/month! I worry about coverage. Even in the US where I live, it can go from 5gUW to spotty 4g in just a block or two.

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  9 месяцев назад +2

      You’re welcome, Ben! Verizon should cap the charges on an international plan but it’s still expensive compared to the alternatives

    Keep in mind, for the iPhone 14 and 15 if you buy it in the U.S., there is no SIM tray! Thats why I am waiting to fly out of the U.S. in some months from now to buy an Iphone 15 in Canada with a SIM tray in it.. Apple things Americans don't travel, its crazy!

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  9 месяцев назад +3

      Yes that's true; technology is changing fast! That's why I added about the eSims. Although you can also buy an older unlocked phone to use local SIMs. And you should be able to register a physical SIM card as an eSim (although I haven't tried it yet because I still have an iPhone 12).

    • @johnnash90
      @johnnash90 9 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure you can register a physical SIM as an eSim.. but will the iPhone 15 which I want to get, I can't get the U.S. version if I want the physical SIM, but it makes a big different when traveling, not only cheaper rates by having more options, but if your phone is damaged or you need to use a backup phone, you just take out the SIM and put it in.. Apple selling it without a physical SIM in the U.S. is soo wrong!@@TravelingwithKristin

      I have 500 download at home. I look for an upload of at least 20-25mbps but it’s usually lower on data

    For Romania we simply found it cheaper to purchase a local SIM card for an unlocked phone. That gave us a local phone number and data.

    In the EU, internet access has been declared a fundamental right, and Wi-Fi hotspots are popping up everywhere. I thought I wouldn't need to pay for a data plan anymore because Wi-Fi was everywhere. However, now it seems the trend is quickly reversing, with fewer free hotspots. In Eastern Europe, it's still okay, but the same trend is emerging.

    Thanks for the video. Why are you telling people to use Google Fi? Google Fi is deleting accounts left and right and actually told me when I contacted them that their service is for the US only. That if people travel for short periods its ok but not longer term use. Also Verizon is a joke and charges 10.00 a day for International. I lowered down to a prepaid plan and turned off International. I use Google Voice for phone calls and a local sim. I hope to buy a dual sim phone soon
