Chester P is the truth, among the first really dope UK mc's, i have the great privilege of knowing him personally and he is just as intelligent and enlightening as this suggests. Long live UKHH
Task Force were a heavyweight of UK hip hop since early 00's kinda times, for me they are one of the groups of UK rappers that really defined the UK hip hop sound ( not so much grime). The late 90's early 00's saw a lot of good UK hip artists , but many of them did not last, Task Force did, and Chester P's voice to me is quite Iconic and really takes me back to the early 00's. Around this time you had UK hip hop acts (in some cases) not sure how to use the UK accent, many MC's would do some kind of US /UK blend, peeps like Task Force really embraced the accent and used it, I would say they were one of the first to do this and actually gain large scale success Thing is there were good UK acts before this that embraced the UK accent, but they never got as a big as Task Force did before, guys like Roots Manuva around teh same time as well, another who got big embracing the UK accent
Chester is from the pre-grime era of hip hop, where the sound borrows from the NYC sound. He's different with it, probably the greatest lyricist to come from the UK.
Great to see how far you've come with your UK ears. I don't think pausing is a problem as long as you roll back the video enough... Which you do now. Cheers Tara x
Chester p has been around for a long time but not one of the original. For that convo you need to be talking about hijack, demon boys, cookie crew, MC merlin, son of noise etc
I like that you break it down, it shows that you are taking it in properly, some people just play it through and say hey that was dope and I can't help but think half of it went over their heads.

Black Radical Mk.II - Monsoon (1989) is a seminal slab of UK Hip-Hop. It marks the effect that Public Enemy had on the London scene after Chuck D raised the bar lyrically moving the culture to a more consious level. It's at that crossroads where many UK artists were still affecting a US accent until London Posse, Rodney P, Chester P, Skinnyman and others helped established Britain with an authentic native voice.
The it’s Chester here. And this is a true comment. Way before me and the wave that accompanied me was a whole host of artists history seems to ignore. Demon boys, London posse, katch 22, mc.d, son of noise, dominant force, brotherhood, blade, Msi asylum, and many more. Then we got to look at smiley culture and daddy Freddie, merlin, mc duke, overlord x, man I feel bad cos I could go on infinitely but the main point I’m trying to make is me myself rapped with an American accent until I heard people like London posse, etc etc. Times change and styles evolve for better or worse but we must remember our roots always. One of the illest to ever to do it. An incredible emcee. He doesn't really do his off the top freestyles anymore but he was a beast at freestyling of the top as well. The crowd thought he wasnt the real deal and he then he would slay the competition. How times change
Back then any new rapper had to take part in cyphers to show people they could hang with the best lyrically.
