It is one thing to mourn and a total other thing to make a literal theatrical performance of our beloved Imam Hussain a.s martyrdom...
Imam Ali a.s advises us in Nahjul Balagha The best way to worship Allah swt is not to make a show of it. This is just plain wrong. A performance is not mourning - learning about Karbala, crying on your own in private for no one to see, & living by the teachings and virtues of the Ahlul Bayt a.s is how you mourn and honour imam Hussain a.s, not this way.
This is the reason Imam Al Mahdi a.s has not reappeared yet... he needs a mere 313 true Shia. Wallah if just 313 /300 million of us were actually Shia and not just Shia by name, he would be here now. Inshallah we are all guided to the truth & May Allah swt hasten his appearance

The brothers and I do a majlis every night in our house - with a shaikh & a handful of brothers & sisters. We hear the lecture & we mourn over Karbala. There is LIGHT YEARS of difference between that and this - this literally belongs in broadway in New York. Open your eyes my brother, don’t you see how they have turned a TRAGEDY into costumes & a venue & a literal performance?
Not even to mention they are doing tatbir which is STRICTLY prohibited by the supreme leader Imam Khomeini & sayed sistani & many other large mara’j3.
Come on my brother, wake up... this is not Siratal Mustaqeem. And commanders or not, you should really ponder on the fact that out of 300 million shia we do not have even 313 worthy enough to be the commanders of Imam Mahdi a.s. This is part of the reason why.

Imam Hussain (as) protected the religion brought by his grandfather Prophet Muhammad (saw). The irony is that without his steadfastness you wouldn't even have the liberty or freedom to practice Islam as you know it, let alone have the audacity to comment asking "what did Imam Hussain (as) achieve".
He showed us how to remain steadfast in the way of Allah (SWT) and how to defeat Shaitaan. He showed us that when you find Allah (swt) there can be no such thing as loss.
