In 1991, Lea Salonga took Broadway by storm with her now-legendary debut performance as Kim in the Boublil and Schönberg musical Miss Saigon. The role of Kim has some pretty iconic songs, "Sun and Moon" and "I'd Give My Life For You" among them. But one of the most powerful songs in the show, "Why God Why," is written for the character of Chris, the soldier who falls for Kim. But why would Salonga let that stand in her way? At this year's MCC Theater Miscast gala, she proved that Miss Saigon is still in her bones, and it blew everyone away. - Развлечения

Thanks so much you saved my ass !
@Anthony Thomas no problem =)
Can't the Miss Saigon revival just be Lea doing a one-woman show?
Hahaha
Who would drive the helicopter then?
Lmao
🤣
@@wtfstudioinc.1827 Her voice. It'll be enough to make the thing levitate lmao.
Fragile and naive girls like Kim, Princess Jasmine, Mulan, Eponine, Fantine. They've all turned into a woman of strength, hope and faith through out the years. But they've all existed because of Lea Salonga''s amazingly magical voice! many people call her The Icon, The Diva, The Queen, The Legend.. To me she is THE PERFECTION! I love you Lea.
I agree!!! She's my idol. But I wouldn't say Mulan or Eponine are fragile by any means. Eponine perhaps but she's very strong.
agree
Eponine isn't fragile
Don't forget 'THE Disney Princess'
There's 2 perfect Broadway singers : Audra and Lea. They are perfection no matter where or when they sing. The greatest voices of all time.
Any future Chris' would be stupid not to study this performance. Lea has heard this song performed so many different ways she knows what interpretations resonate with an audience. This is stunning
I would give anything to see her perform live one time in my life, no matter what she sings. Her voice mesmerizes me every time I hear it. I know that I will never get to hear her live, so must content myself with videos and recordings, but am truly blessed for being able to listen to her for all the time that I have. Ms. Salonga, if you read this, please know that you have touched my life in more ways than you can imagine and I appreciate every note you have sung that I have been blessed to hear, Thank you.
come to Philippines bro
Yeah! Go to the Philippines and she has some shows you can watch. I watched her grew up singing Tomorrow when she was just child performing on stage.
hello sir! she will be having a America concert tour .. check it out on her website leasalonga.com
You can catch her on "Once on this island" this year on broadway.
Don't give up. I saw her in Oklahoma last year. She sang this song and it was amazing. I took my 9 year-old niece. It was her first ever concert. We had front row seats and the niece was enthralled.
Very intelligent imagine she can sing and give emotions to every word that comes out from her mouth she knows exactly how to get the attention of a big crowd towards her truly she has mastered her craft but still remained humble as a Filipino she is such an inspiration to let the world know that Asians do possess talent not to be stereotype as maid or a slave to much discrimination from Asians in terms of work talent as what Lea once told she did not get the role because of her nationality but she persevered and smashed all the barriers around her so courageous and straight forward I love u Lea u are a national treasure.. No one can surpass your contributions in entertainment in this generation cause u have all ready set a high standard in theatere and entertainment .
I'M SOBBING SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL UGH
I feel you.
the person clapping even before lea starts singing is so me
This is my favorite song from the show, I LOVE that she was like fuck it I'm gonna sing the guys song. LOVE it.
+Jacque M Well she didn't really go "fuck it I'm gonna sing this" since this is from the annual Miscast gala where everyone performs songs from roles that they will never be cast in. :D
+Fairy Cakes Yeah that's true, but what she means is that Lea chose a guy's powerful song, when she could've been "miscast" as someone else. It took BALLS to sing this. :D.
+Mario Antonio Please, it didn't take any balls at all, it only required talent which Lea has. Again, it's Miscast, either they play the roles opposite their gender or age so it wasn't a surprise that she'd perform this (it's Miss Saigon after all) though her performance still was.
+Fairy Cakes You talk as if you're the only one who knows that. You don't have to explain it like we're ignorant. And it just doesn't take talent. Most of the time you also need guts in this business. What's talent if you fall apart during the act because of performance issues. We're not all built from the same mold.
Mario Antonio Well, it's just that you spoke as if it's the first time Lea ever sang a guy's song. "It takes balls" really? lmao
Leave it up to Lea to be the best Chris ever lol seriously though Aaron be in the revival!!!
+DontDoSadness91 The guy from the West End Revival- that's coming to Broadway- is fabulous though! He's spectacular and brings a range of emotion and a powerhouse voice I don't think Aaron has (I say this as a lover of Aaron, don't get me wrong). Never fear! Go check out the West End Live recording to get all jazzed up.
+Dallas Nolen wait the original London Revival Chris Alistair??? Or another one? I love the London revival soo much and the Kim is from my neighboring state so if gives me hope lol I understand what you mean. Aaron is a bit too obvious. I personally think Jeremy Jordan has better acting range for the role. They're all top less at some point so win win lol
I've replayed 3:30 to the end so many times today. I died when she delivered "A guy like me lives like a KING!" just like Will Chase did.
Will Chase is the best Chris for me! Lea, however, is the ONLY Kim.
+Yanna Metran Original Chris is better for me...Simon B.
She channeled a lot of Will's Chris in this. He's my favorite so maybe that's why this is my new favorite version EVER.
dontpugme Lea really liked Will Chase
Is he the one from the Manila recording? Cause that guy is my favorite
There's nothing this woman can't do! great job as always Lea!
K
Timeless, Ms. Saigon the original. Ms. Lea Salonga the only gifted crystal voice ever.
Lea is the best kim and also the best Chris. She should sing a duet of sun and moon with herself.
Lea Salonga is really pretty with shorter hair. her vocal is still magical
I saw her in the original Miss Saigon in the 90s. SHE IS A QUEEN!!!! Her voice has not changed all these years. Just saw her in Once on this Island also. Love her!
Well lucky you. 🥺😭
I wanna meet her someday, I hope she lives a long life.
Now thats Miss Saigon!!!
+Virgelio Orbiso .....now 'Mr' Saigon..😏
+etrnlygr8tful Point taken.. 😜
Well technically Gigi is Miss Saigon but okay
Lea is one of the unfading Filipino prides!!!
Lea Salonga, the story teller.
She should do all roles in Miss Saigon! 😄
WHy is she literally perfect IM IN TEARS IM LITERALLY CRYING SHES my idol and she deserves the world
Words cannot express how excited I am for the Broadway revival!
She's awesome. Can't think of many who can sing the variety that she can.
Lea just slays everytime she sings.
Lea is killing it as always!!!!!!!!!!
YES YES YES.
I keep watching Lea sing this song every time I open You Tube and love it through and through. She's really really worth watching and listening every single word she utters and you want to replay over and over again! She's phenomenal and absolutely brilliant and enchanting to watch!
Interesting to also watch Aaron Tveit listen to this song he often sings. Hope he's considered for Chris.
OMG she is so so so amazing. THE BEST. VOICE. ON THE PLANET.
Unbelievable, incomparable, absolutely brilliant and one of a kind, that's Lea Salonga!
The best Kim of all...
I admired you so much Ms. Lea Salonga ...You are the best 😍
I got goosebumps from the first note she sang! What an amazing performance!
Gifted.

Bravo Ms. Salonga!
Someday, I wish I have a life like hers. And a voice like that. 😞
Me too
Absolutely Beautiful and awesomely sang. Her voice never fail to amazed me!.
THE Lea Salonga! She will always be the best!
Much more depth and wisdom in her singing. Maturity in the way she tells the story. Bravo!
Yeah... Leah should do a one woman show with Miss Saigon story..
Cameron McIntosh needs to do a Movie Musical on "Miss Saigon" with Lea Salonga in the lead role once again!
WOW PLS PLS HOW WILL THIS BIG DREAM REACH FILMMAKERS AND CAMERON HIMSELF!!! OH GOD PLEASE PLEASE!
Regrettably the film versions are cast with exact/ acting typecasting concerns first and unfortunately vocal talent is the last concern.
She's way too old to be playing 17
With Simon Bowman...love their duets...
i love you idol lea salonga
What a beautiful voice, gee a talent! Highly deserved that tony.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING! ❤

We're all Gavin back there at 3:26
Dang Lea Salonga did that song better than any Chris I've ever heard...
wow so lea
🙌🏼 🙌🏼
BRAVA!!
Miss saigon on Broadway!!! Didn't know that!!!
wow.....
I like her interpretation of “empty chairs and empty tables” from les miserables.
👏🏻👏🏻
I can sing this song when Miss Saigon first came to reality and I was kid...
Wow! Miss Saigon would be so much better if it was cross cast!
That woman is probably my favorite really ANY Kim is.. her, Rachel Ann go, Eva nobelzada
I think this may have been the only time Lea ever took part in Miscast. It's a shame because there are many more songs I'd love to hear her sing. (She does sing songs in concert that are written for roles she would never play, but I just want more people to see it!)
My wish was granted - Lea sang at Miscast 2024 recently. And it was GLORIOUS! There are tickets available to watch the full concert streaming tonight and will be available to watch on demand for the week (April 29-May 5). I can’t wait to watch it again and again!
👏🙌👍
gwapo mo james
Cant help it...goosies!!!
is there nOthiNg sHe canT siNg!!!!!
That's the reason why...
I just think this song never works when it's just piano. It needs like a full band to really make it feel that much more powerful during the dramatic parts.
Is there a date for the Broadway yet?
Was this sung after Aaron Tveit and Gavin Creel's preformance of Take Me or Leave Me? I'm curious cause I kinda see Ms. Lea Salonga there lol.
"Why God?" was sung by American G.I. Chris.
I thought Simon bowman was the original Chris in West end
yes good point but in the 25th anniversary there was a new one as well Alistair Brammer I met Alistair last year after he had preformed actually on the 5th of march
Alistair was Simon Bowman's Marius when he was playing the role of Jean Valjean in the WestEnd. Alistair said that he learnt a lot from Simon about how to play Chris.
Simon Bowman is the very best to play Chris.
what key is this in?
Damn! She sang it better than chris! Haha.
Parang maluwang damit ni Ms Lea
Mr. Saigon 😂
