Esselstyn diet promotes disease as it trades one problem for another as it is deficient in a natural whole intact food source of Vitamin A1, B12, D, K2, Heme iron, DHA, C15:0, Omega 7, Iodine, Carnosine, CoQ10 and Oleocanthal. These are the daily dozen.

Dr. Esselstyn does not advocate the use of any added oils, especially highly saturated coconut oil which he states in this video (5:29). He also said the only supplement he recommends is vitamin B12 when asked by Gustavo Tulosa (9:12). While this video does have some accurate information, I would never recommend it to a novice in plant-based eating.

We appreciate you clarifying that! It's always good to have accurate information.
We decided to add the info about coconut oil since most people simply can't eliminate all the oil from their diet due to multiple different reasons.
So instead of using the worst kind of oil - hydrogenated vegetable and seed oils - they at least use least damaging options like extra-virgin olive oil and coconut oil.

    2) Very minimal exercise. Exercise in moderation. Mostly bodyweight exercises like hindu push ups, sit ups, V-ups, squats. Keep yourself supple and flexible.
    3) Live simply as much as possible and try to have a child-like wonder and enjoyment of life. I am inquisitive by nature and love learning. Reading information books. Still don't need reading glasses. Old age is a delusion of the defeatists in life. Old age is not the calendar years, but biological.

Human body is extremely complex, there are so many things that contributes to longevity, i have seen meat eaters living 100+ years and I have seen pure vegeterains living 100+ years, I have seen non snokers getting early cancer and heavy smokers enjoying their lives even in 80s
Remember that diet is just the one part of those factors, apart from this your genetic make up, your race, your amount of physical activities, how much happy you are, your sleep qualitt etc., and finally your luck as well.
Every thing matters a lot. Bottom line is to avoid processed, packed and factory made food, avoid sugar, be physically active, avoid smoking and drinking and take good quality of sleep. Rest leave it to your luck.

@@noturningback2023 carnivore diet doesn't heal autoimmune diseases. Carnivore diet is an elimination diet, under which symptoms cease. You would achieve the same thing on an elemental diet where you drink a beverage containing all your calories and nutrients for the day.
You're not healed from the elemental diet. Once you stop drinking the beverage and eat a normal diet your symptoms continue.
The same thing happens under a fast. Under a water fast autoimmune symptoms cease.
People have been eating omnivore diets for thousands of years, and people have been eating plant foods longer than they've been eating animal foods. Plant foods do not cause autoimmune diseases.
      Gut issues cause autoimmune diseases.
A carnivore diet is most likely going to further damage your gut health because you're going to lose the bacteria that allows you to digest other plant foods. These bacteria are very important for human health.
I think the best thing to do would be to find a restricted diet that stopped the autoimmune symptoms but that still allowed you to eat some variety of plants.
Each person is different. And each person with an autoimmune condition reacts to some foods and not to others. So you need to create a temporary restricted diet based on that as you try to address the root gut issues causing the problems.

Neither of them avoided any food group, and they even ate what some would consider junk food in moderation (bread, baked goods, pasta, sugar, maple syrup, honey, etc.).

    BIG QUESTION:
I am following Dr Esselstyn's protocol and have already dropped my cholesterol from 240 to 160 in 6 weeks
I have mild to moderate DIFFUSE disease in 4 arteries including the LAD. Does this program help with diffuse coronary artery disease? ie. did any of the participants out of the 198 that followed the program or the first 20 have diffuse coronary artery disease ? I know diffuse disease is quite rare and cannot find anything online to confirm whether or not it is also reversable or stabilised with this protocol.
Thank You & Dr Esselstyn so much for what you do

Calcium is over fortified in a lot of foods already. 1000mg of calcium daily is too high, especially if your diet doen't include a lot of vitamin k, especially the k2 form. If you need extra calcium in your diet, add broccoli , sesame seeds, yogurt and almonds to your diet. Inorganic calcium, especially in the form of supplementation has been linked to increased heart risk.

Or as the Bible says, there will come a time when people will abandon the truth and find teachers to teach them whatever their itching ears want to hear. Great tips from someone who should know! Thank you very much for that! For me, there are still a few unanswered questions when it comes to implementing his eating habits and taking supplements. In particular about the B12 requirement and how it should be met. Especially since this will probably vary constantly and an “overdose” should be avoided. Of course, this also applies to other important elements that our body needs.
In my layman's understanding, there could also be problems if you pack your daily requirements for minerals, vitamins and trace elements into just two meals, for example. These substances need receptors in order to be absorbed by the body (the cells), which then perhaps block each other. Many important substances are then excreted “unused”.
A varied diet (food should also be a pleasure ;-)) will be difficult if you only rely on “plant-based” ingredients. The example from Japan also shows that things are possible differently. So-called “red meat” should always be an exception, whereas fish and poultry are good alternatives, but always in combination with purely plant-based food sources, which should then be the main ingredient.
If you then only eat “regional” and “seasonal” products, deficiency symptoms and physical and psychological problems (illnesses) would be hard to avoid.
If you really want to eat healthily, you also have to rely on high-quality products, which not everyone could afford. Eating less (in bulk) than many people are used to is also likely to lead to better health. What is not fed into our body cannot put a strain on it. Anyone who eats too much requires their organs to work hard, which is never a good thing in the long run!

This video is a public disservice.
I’m 76. I still practice law, train with weights to slow/minimize sarcopenia, and was admitted to MENSA when I was 69 years old. I have had a keen interest in nutrition for several decades. Some of the dietary and nutritional recommendations stated in this video are the complete opposite of many of the recommendations of MDs and nutritionists I have studied and listened to over the years.
If you are healthy, follow a proper diet, and engage in vigorous exercise, you shouldn’t take calcium supplements. It is difficult for a vegan over 50 to ingest enough protein to avoid sarcopenia. Extra virgin olive oil is a super food.

Heart disease is the number one killer of people today and cancer is number two.
Being over weight is the number one factor leading to an early death.
People who are over weight have higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences.
There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese.
What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications.
Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks.
Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods

Missing from his 5 year study is the fact that the participants not only ate plant based, but they were all placed on a statin. (read the study)
Who knows how much of the results were due in great part, to the statins they ALL took.
Certainly the statin use accounts for big portion of the lower cholesterol reduction.
Simple advice... do both the diet and take a statin.
That is the only way to "reproduce" the conditions that gave the favorable results.

Olive Oil bad? Meat bad? Breakfast is good? (I thought fasting was good 🤣) - I don’t believe anyone anymore - specially anyone with the MD letters after his name. Move around, burn what you eat, avoid stress. B12? It constricts blood vessels and gives some people palpitations - if you’re vegan of course you need B12. Calcium? How do you deliver calcium to cells (Vitamin D or Sunlight and K2). Flaxseeds? Yes, but make sure you grind them when you’re ready to eat them or you’ll get diverticulitis AND if you buy the grounded seeds - refrigerate very cold after opening bag. Some good info but this video sucks. Take too much calcium and end up with calcified arteries and heart valves.

      @LifeToYourYears  8 месяцев назад

I appreciate you highlighting this discrepancy in the video. Thank you for your attention to detail.
We added the info about coconut oil as it is very difficult for many to completely cut out oil from their diet. So instead of choosing the worst kind of oils - hydrogenated vegetable oils - they at least choose healthy options like extra-virgin olive oil.
And if they go for saturated fats, at least choosing coconut oil instead of butter as butter has been shown to increase cholesterol more than coconut oil despite both being saturated fats.
