my grandfather died at the age of 98, older than this Dr. He ate, beef, chicken ,pork eggs, fish, all kind of veggies, rice and fruits. The only thing he didn't like that much is sweet and too much salty food. Didn't eat junk food like hot dogs , burger, pizza and processed food. All his food were whole foods . He didn't smoke or drank any form of alcohol. He didn't take any vitamin supplements. His exercise is farm work . He lived in a farm with his family. His diet and life style we should emulate if want to live that long.
EXERCISE IN WORKING ON HIS FARM IS A GREAT WORK OUT FOR HIM N ALSO LESS SALT N SUGAR DONT SMOKE OR DRINK ALCOHOL ..I SAY HEALTHY LIVING ..REAL SPOT ON ..
The main supplement is being rich. In the US, rich Americans live an average of twenty years older than the rest of the population. There are studies on this that you can google.
Years ago I was taking a calcium supplement for my blood pressure and I had to stop because with the excess calcium in my system I developed kidney stones! So the doctors had me stop immediately and then I never had a problem with kidney stones again
hey doc, you are my hero. i am 87 and have been living in costa rica for 24 years and attribute my life style to feeling pretty good. i really don't know whether i have any medical problems and take no medications because i have not seen a doctor in 35 years. i sprint on the beach and can do 100 yards in 12 to 13 seconds that is my exercise along with the sport of tennis which i hit balls with young guys. what you failed to mention is a healthy sex life. i started taking viagra 20 years ago starting with a quarter then fifty and now one hundred. i have intercourse two to three times a month which is why my younger friends think i don't have any prostate problems. also i have never been to an eye doctor and can read fine print. i am told i am a pretty lucky guy.
Tips to help prolong life: 1. Healthy diet 2.Exercise regularly 3. Get enough sleep 4. Manage stress 5.Build social relationships 6.Do not smoke and limit alcohol 7.Regular health check-up 8. Maintain optimism 9.Consume nutritious foods 10. Mental activity These tips help you maintain your health and prolong your life effectively.
Exactly , ffs he says the only supplement you need is B12 - direct quote from the video! The person who made this must be drinking a sugary drink , it's affecting their focus.
Unless we eat acid forming grains and other starches. I know he recommends oats but grains, especially mixed with fruit, are not healthy at all as humans can't digest grains.
Thank you for sharing your dedication to biking to work, even in challenging weather. Your commitment is inspiring and shows how small changes can make a big impact. Keep pedaling!
All said, for me the key is moderation. Just enjoy life in moderation. Have crazy moments like binge drinking , eating lots of red meat, not over do regime must exercise. You will enjoy life. Why worry to live 100. Enjoy now!
Dr. Esselstyn does not advocate the use of any added oils, especially highly saturated coconut oil which he states in this video (5:29). He also said the only supplement he recommends is vitamin B12 when asked by Gustavo Tulosa (9:12). While this video does have some accurate information, I would never recommend it to a novice in plant-based eating.
We appreciate you clarifying that! It's always good to have accurate information. We decided to add the info about coconut oil since most people simply can't eliminate all the oil from their diet due to multiple different reasons. So instead of using the worst kind of oil - hydrogenated vegetable and seed oils - they at least use least damaging options like extra-virgin olive oil and coconut oil. My advice. I'm only young though, 68. 1)Develop and maintain a wonderful and loving attitude toward God giving him much thanks with great joy always 2) Very minimal exercise. Exercise in moderation. Mostly bodyweight exercises like hindu push ups, sit ups, V-ups, squats. Keep yourself supple and flexible. 3) Live simply as much as possible and try to have a child-like wonder and enjoyment of life. I am inquisitive by nature and love learning. Reading information books. Still don't need reading glasses. Old age is a delusion of the defeatists in life. Old age is not the calendar years, but biological.
I followed your way of eating for 3 years and did well except for continued arthritis pain which kept getting worse. I decided to try a ketovore diet for 3 months and lost 30 pounds and arthritis pain is about 90 percent gone. I eat berries for my plant portion and the rest is meat, eggs, salt and butter. Never felt better. I’m 69 years old but fell like 40.

Human body is extremely complex, there are so many things that contributes to longevity, i have seen meat eaters living 100+ years and I have seen pure vegeterains living 100+ years, I have seen non snokers getting early cancer and heavy smokers enjoying their lives even in 80s Remember that diet is just the one part of those factors, apart from this your genetic make up, your race, your amount of physical activities, how much happy you are, your sleep qualitt etc., and finally your luck as well. Every thing matters a lot. Bottom line is to avoid processed, packed and factory made food, avoid sugar, be physically active, avoid smoking and drinking and take good quality of sleep. Rest leave it to your luck.

My doctor told me to take a calcium supplement WITHOUT checking my levels. Turns out I was eating a lot of dairy, as I had given up meat, and my calcium levels were way TOO HIGH! I was in danger of developing kidney stones & had to cut out the calcium supplement. Now, I am pretty much (98%) vegan & cut out dairy. I only take B12 and D3. Make sure you check your levels before taking supplements. Dr. Barnard says vegans only need to take B12.

@@noturningback2023 carnivore diet doesn't heal autoimmune diseases. Carnivore diet is an elimination diet, under which symptoms cease. You would achieve the same thing on an elemental diet where you drink a beverage containing all your calories and nutrients for the day. You're not healed from the elemental diet. Once you stop drinking the beverage and eat a normal diet your symptoms continue. The same thing happens under a fast. Under a water fast autoimmune symptoms cease. People have been eating omnivore diets for thousands of years, and people have been eating plant foods longer than they've been eating animal foods. Plant foods do not cause autoimmune diseases. Gut issues cause autoimmune diseases. A carnivore diet is most likely going to further damage your gut health because you're going to lose the bacteria that allows you to digest other plant foods. These bacteria are very important for human health. I think the best thing to do would be to find a restricted diet that stopped the autoimmune symptoms but that still allowed you to eat some variety of plants. Each person is different. And each person with an autoimmune condition reacts to some foods and not to others. So you need to create a temporary restricted diet based on that as you try to address the root gut issues causing the problems.
What this doctor has determined is what is right for him, not everyone. The diet isn't real, practical, or affordable for some people, and definitely NO to calcium supplementation.

Calcium is over fortified in a lot of foods already. 1000mg of calcium daily is too high, especially if your diet doen't include a lot of vitamin k, especially the k2 form. If you need extra calcium in your diet, add broccoli , sesame seeds, yogurt and almonds to your diet. Inorganic calcium, especially in the form of supplementation has been linked to increased heart risk.
Hi, thank you for your informative message 🙏🏽 we absolutely agree that best sources of calcium are all-natural sources. Unfortunately lots of people don’t eat according to plant-based guidelines. "ALL" the experts? Give me a break! Like ultra-famous plant-based doctor Dr. John McDougall says "People love to hear good news about their bad habits". Or as the Bible says, there will come a time when people will abandon the truth and find teachers to teach them whatever their itching ears want to hear. If you think "all the experts" are saying something different, you're being completely intellectually dishonest and only seeking out ones that tell you what you want to hear. It's that simple.

Hi, thank you for your message 👍🏽 Dr. Esselstyn recommends calcium in his book ”Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” Most people can’t go totally fat-free in their diet so the least damaging oils to consume are coconut oil and olive oil

Warning if you're diabetic avoid eating oats for breakfast it will spike your glucose. Imo EVOO is absolutely great for most people. Major source of omega 3's and reducer of inflammation and heart disease! Coconut oil is an mct oil and I drink it everyday in bullet proof coffee and my heart is healthy @ 68 years of age. I agree about excercise and cutting out sugar... the rest is questionable.
I am diabetic & eat oats for breakfast at times and I have a normal post prandial reading, BECAUSE I walk for 10-15 min after a meal - outside or in a treadmill…the trouble with generalizations is shortsightedness.
Several problems here. Esselstyn says no oil is acceptable. Coconut oil is particularly bad based on saturated fat. Esselstyn now says no to calcium supplements, a change made after his book was published. The excess calcium clogs arteries, promotes heart disease.

Great tips from someone who should know! Thank you very much for that! For me, there are still a few unanswered questions when it comes to implementing his eating habits and taking supplements. In particular about the B12 requirement and how it should be met. Especially since this will probably vary constantly and an “overdose” should be avoided. Of course, this also applies to other important elements that our body needs. In my layman's understanding, there could also be problems if you pack your daily requirements for minerals, vitamins and trace elements into just two meals, for example. These substances need receptors in order to be absorbed by the body (the cells), which then perhaps block each other. Many important substances are then excreted “unused”. A varied diet (food should also be a pleasure ;-)) will be difficult if you only rely on “plant-based” ingredients. The example from Japan also shows that things are possible differently. So-called “red meat” should always be an exception, whereas fish and poultry are good alternatives, but always in combination with purely plant-based food sources, which should then be the main ingredient. If you then only eat “regional” and “seasonal” products, deficiency symptoms and physical and psychological problems (illnesses) would be hard to avoid. If you really want to eat healthily, you also have to rely on high-quality products, which not everyone could afford. Eating less (in bulk) than many people are used to is also likely to lead to better health. What is not fed into our body cannot put a strain on it. Anyone who eats too much requires their organs to work hard, which is never a good thing in the long run!

Heart disease is the number one killer of people today and cancer is number two. Being over weight is the number one factor leading to an early death. People who are over weight have higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences. There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese. What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications. Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks. Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods
Missing from his 5 year study is the fact that the participants not only ate plant based, but they were all placed on a statin. (read the study) Who knows how much of the results were due in great part, to the statins they ALL took. Certainly the statin use accounts for big portion of the lower cholesterol reduction. Simple advice... do both the diet and take a statin. That is the only way to "reproduce" the conditions that gave the favorable results.

Hi! We understand that everyone has different opinions when it comes to diet and nutrition. It's important to do your own research and make choices that work best for your body and lifestyle! If you decide to consume red meat, it is important to be aware the growing evidence of red meat being carsinogenic to our bodies. If one can live with that information, then go for it :) Is there any longevity topic or a specific health professional you would like us to cover in our coming videos?
This video promotes olive and coconut oils that Dr. Eisenstein does not. There is also calcium supplement promotion in this video that Dr. Eisenstein does not support.
Calcium supplementation must be accompanied with Vitamin D3 for better absorption and with Vitamin K2 that shunts it from arteries into bones where it is required.
You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity, get enough sleep and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks including fruit juices are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community
Ah, those supplements! The dude recommended a secret blend of unicorn tears, fairy dust, and a sprinkle of magic beans. But in all seriousness, he mentioned B12, calcium and Flax seeds. What are your thoughts on those? Is there any longevity topic or a specific health professional you would like us to cover in our coming videos?
Hi according to our resources he recommended calcium in his book. But has after that changed his recommendations. We apologize for this inaccurate info. Which topics would you like us to cover in our coming videos?
Olive Oil bad? Meat bad? Breakfast is good? (I thought fasting was good 🤣) - I don’t believe anyone anymore - specially anyone with the MD letters after his name. Move around, burn what you eat, avoid stress. B12? It constricts blood vessels and gives some people palpitations - if you’re vegan of course you need B12. Calcium? How do you deliver calcium to cells (Vitamin D or Sunlight and K2). Flaxseeds? Yes, but make sure you grind them when you’re ready to eat them or you’ll get diverticulitis AND if you buy the grounded seeds - refrigerate very cold after opening bag. Some good info but this video sucks. Take too much calcium and end up with calcified arteries and heart valves.

I was on a whole food plant based diet for many years, lots of legumes, oats, whole grains, veggies, etc. all organic. Now after all those years of eating so many carbs I am close to being Pre diabetic. I can’t eat any oats now, or bread. 😫😫 spikes my glucose.
Hi, yes and we added the information that if someone is struggling to go totally oil-free, the least damaging options are extra-virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Coconut oil has been shown to have much lesser negative impact on LDL cholesterol than butter which is another common source of saturated fat. Is there any longevity topic or a specific health professional you would like us to cover in our coming videos?
you are playing with your own head, he ( esselstyn) states firmly NO OIL.....he emphasized it, ornish decried coconut oil and choose canola oil, which i personally would not use...ornish stated that coconut oil was the worse as it was super high in fat. and DR DEAN ORNISH..@@LifeToYourYears
This video misrepresents Dr. Esselstyn's views on oil when it says that one of the least damaging oils is coconut oil when in fact Dr Esselstyn views this as one of the most damaging oils due to its high saturated fat content.
I appreciate you highlighting this discrepancy in the video. Thank you for your attention to detail. We added the info about coconut oil as it is very difficult for many to completely cut out oil from their diet. So instead of choosing the worst kind of oils - hydrogenated vegetable oils - they at least choose healthy options like extra-virgin olive oil. And if they go for saturated fats, at least choosing coconut oil instead of butter as butter has been shown to increase cholesterol more than coconut oil despite both being saturated fats. Also, he recommends GRINDING flax seeds, because the whole seeds pass straight through your body, undigested. Do your research before throwing these videos out to the public.
Hi, thank you for sharing your insights. It's always important to consider different perspectives on health and nutrition. Not all people are able to go 100% oil free with their diet so they choose to use some amounts of oil. Remember that diet is just the one part of those factors, apart from this your genetic make up, your race, your amount of physical activities, how much happy you are, your sleep qualitt etc., and finally your luck as well.
Every thing matters a lot. Bottom line is to avoid processed, packed and factory made food, avoid sugar, be physically active, avoid smoking and drinking and take good quality of sleep. Rest leave it to your luck.

Genes mean a lot. Does he have good genes or mutated genes? It’s not just your diet. I’m sure he has very good genes.
No doubt, genes can have a big say in how we turn out. It's not just about what we eat, there's a lot more going on behind the scenes!
That being said, we can affect our health span and life expectancy significantly through healthy lifestyle choices. Unhealthy lifestyle choices combined with unfavorable genes definitely increase the risk of disease and shorter lifespan.

My paternal grandfather lived to 99, and he ate a variety of foods. My maternal grandmother lived to 95. She also ate a variety of foods. Neither of them avoided any food group, and they even ate what some would consider junk food in moderation (bread, baked goods, pasta, sugar, maple syrup, honey, etc.).
Exceptions to the rule.
If you eat only potatoes , baked or boiled, your cholesterol will drop to below normal... it's a diet some doctors recommend after a bypass due to major blockage to lose weight and lower cholesterol. What does that mean ? idk...
Oreo Cookies do that also
Potatoes are an amazing food. If you had to live on only one food for a few months, potatoes are the best.
BIG QUESTION:
I am following Dr Esselstyn's protocol and have already dropped my cholesterol from 240 to 160 in 6 weeks
I have mild to moderate DIFFUSE disease in 4 arteries including the LAD. Does this program help with diffuse coronary artery disease? ie. did any of the participants out of the 198 that followed the program or the first 20 have diffuse coronary artery disease ? I know diffuse disease is quite rare and cannot find anything online to confirm whether or not it is also reversable or stabilised with this protocol.
Thank You & Dr Esselstyn so much for what you do

How about flax seeds in the morning with oats? Been eating dry oatmeal with oat milk and berries, great tasting......rather than cooking the oats I've been eating the dry oats with oat milk like cereal?
If someone opts for calcium supplementation, it is important to choose highest possible quality and low dosage
Dr. Esselstyn recommends calcium in his book ”Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease”

YES! It’s SO confusing.
Inaccuracy's here. Look him up elsewhere. He's excellent and a great physician and human being.
Most people who live to 90 have had to suffer from powerful medication with nasty side effects of being butchered by invasive surgeries. Tell you what I’m almost 80 and love coffee, hamburgers, ice cream, French fries and booze. At this point in my life I don’t care what advice to live longer some older people are suggesting.

Hi, thank you for your message 👍🏽
Dr. Esselstyn recommends calcium in his book ”Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease”
Most people can’t go totally fat-free in their diet so the least damaging oils to consume are coconut oil and olive oil
The only supplement he recommends in his book is vitamin B12 . He also suggests vitamin D if you are deficient. He is adamant that his diet contains no oil. Your diet recommends oil not his. This presentation has nothing to do with the diet he suggests.@@LifeToYourYears
esselstyn never recommends oil, he atually yells it NO OIL...

Warning if you're diabetic avoid eating oats for breakfast it will spike your glucose. Imo EVOO is absolutely great for most people. Several problems here. Esselstyn says no oil is acceptable. Coconut oil is particularly bad based on saturated fat. Esselstyn now says no to calcium supplements, a change made after his book was published. The excess calcium clogs arteries, promotes heart disease.

I feel like a ticking time bomb, 4 different arteries ☹️ I guess im still in shock but have started this diet and am praying it will give me a chance to see my kids grow up. Has anyone here had a similar experience to me, extensive disease and managed to avoid surgery or further surgery for many years etc ? I know his studies have been remarkable.
Wishing you all blessings and good health
We appreciate your detailed insights into the challenges of maintaining a balanced diet. It's great to have a community where we can discuss and learn from each other. There are many ways to get great results in the field of wellness and health :)

Some of the dietary and nutritional recommendations stated in this video are the complete opposite of many of the recommendations of MDs and nutritionists I have studied and listened to over the years.

Absolutely right.
Missing from his 5 year study is the fact that the participants not only ate plant based, but they were all placed on a statin. (read the study)
Who knows how much of the results were due in great part, to the statins they ALL took.
Certainly the statin use accounts for big portion of the lower cholesterol reduction.
Simple advice... do both the diet and take a statin.
That is the only way to "reproduce" the conditions that gave the favorable results.

The idea that saturated fats cause heart disease is an elavult mantra of yesteryear
I have an autoimmune disease and plants make it 1000 times worse, when I follow a carnivore diet I have no symptoms whatsoever of an autoimmune disease
Looks like your body prefers steak over salads! Who knew plants could be the villain in this story? We are glad to hear you have found a diet which works the best for your needs and condition! There are many ways to get great results through diet :)
Aren't raisins full of sugar?
Coconut oil is horrible because its mostly saturated fat.
Impressive credentials, but I saw VERY LITTLE RELATED to systems that would help CONQUER AGING.
You caught us! We might need a time machine to conquer aging, but until then, let's focus on some practical tips to age gracefully and to increase lifespan!

I'll bet Dr Berry would have something to say about this.
Dr Berry….lol

Has Dr. Berry published any research studies in any journals showing how he has reversed or arrested heart disease in real patients, like Dr. Esselstyn?
@@mariaespiritu9512That's a really great question. If I find out, I will post it here.
@@mariaespiritu9512Well said!!!
Everybody is different and there is no one fits all diet.
One day science will be able to determine the ideal diet On A Personal basis!
Dr. Esselstyn says "No Oils! No Oils! No Oils!"
Isn't the strawberry the most toxic berry?
You are wrong -- Dr. E. never recommends coconut oil or olive oil. Considering the epidemic of heart disease today, he recommends NO oil.
Therefore it is important to point out safe unsaturated fat source (extra-virgin olive oil) and safest saturated fat source (coconut oil does not raise cholesterol as much as for example butter)

@@LifeToYourYears Then you should have included those recommendations in SOME OTHER VIDEO, not the one about Dr. Esselstyn. Your information is misleading and incorrect, not the words or nutritional advice from Dr. E.
Nice information thanks dr from uk N singh
Not going to give up my 2 cups of caffeinated coffee! Though I would not promote my MIL's lifestyle, she will be 95 in a couple weeks and has the appetite of a horse. Eats everything under the sun that she wants. Does not have dementia and lives independently at home. Apparently, she is a case that was blessed with good genes. Also, has outlived 3 of her 4 children.
I was surprised this doctor eats oats. I love them, but don't eat them anymore because it is a controversial food. I can eat them and 20 minutes later feel starved. I have found since I have added more protein and fiber in my diet, I do not get blood sugar crashes.
vegan: 'This is the proper human diet, the research proves it, and it saved my life'
carnivore: 'This is the proper human diet, the research proves it, and it saved my life'
People eat what they want.
Carnivore will only say that for 10 years... vegan will say that for 60+
Didn't see dairy mentioned. Also flaxseed should be ground or will just pass through whole.

dr recommends oats, arnt they full of pesticides?
A lot of experts here apparently. I’ll trust the doctor over someone who refuses to listen because they love meat so much. I think I’ll listen to the doc over the know it alls who don’t really know a darn thing. Thanks for sharing.
Read my comment above. Doctors only know what they learned in school. Who controls the info being taught? Big Pharma. Now is big Pharma trying to cure the sick or just treat them. Has our society become more healthy the past 100 years? No! Processed food is the problem. Red meat base diet may be the solution they don't want us to know. Read my comment above for some proof.
Why trust th doctor when he doesn't know how I react to foods? Veg and fruit caused bad ablutions for decades and aches and pains, plus tired all the time, carnivore sorted it all out.
Thank you for valuing the insights provided by medical professionals.

Doctors readily admit, that they get absolutely no instruction about human diets in medical school. Many of them still thinks that talking about various diets is the language of charlatans and pseudo/magicians.
Can't believe it's true
