- Fast food prices are out of control as fast food prices going up causes McDonalds to fired over 10,000 employees following Gavin Newsom forcing all fast food places to raise their pay for employees to $20 and hour. This is causing mass layoffs and closures in stores like burger king, and more, most notable, however, has been the massive amount of layoffs. Over 1,200 Pizza Hut drivers have had announced lay-offs, and were replaced by services such as DoorDash and Uber Eats. Roundtable Pizza has also done the same with many of their delivery drivers, with many other chains also quietly doing the same for deliveries in the following months, as seen by the jump of fast food businesses on food delivery sites.

I went through that back in 1991....I had a part time job making 40-46 hours a week and then after a month or so they would cut me down to 32 hours and then work me back up to 40 hours and when I asked my manager he said " why pay for a full time employee with benefits when they can get two part time employees for the same price.....he said after an employee works 40;hours a week for more than 60 days by law they have to make that employee a full time that's why they cut hours every 45 days and start again.

I was called to help fix wiring in a new building that the general contractor thought looked messed up. A group of illegals took the electrical job out from us at a huge development (this was the country club house). These idiots just ran 1 wire from the panel to the nearest box. Then from that box, to another, that box to another. So, essentially they wired a 14,000 sq foot building with just 1,000 feet of 12/2 w/g. Yes, I charged 150% going rate. Jerks…

Fast food businesses used to be for school kids to make a few bucks and get some work experience. Other then managers, they were never intended to provide a living for adults.

Adjusted for inflation, minimum wage employees in the 1940’s were making roughly $10/hr. Considering inflation has skyrocketed, even $20/hr couldn’t help a high school/college student nowadays.
As restaurants close up.......the ripple effect is that suppliers that have delivered to those businesses will also lay off since their need has evaporated. Not just the hamburger flipper loses.
It’s hard for me to feel bad for McDonald’s or fast food places in general. If it was up to me, they’d all be closed down.

Plus, high school kids working there are paying bills too. If they are like my kids were, they have a car, insurance and gas, plus college to pay for. Not every kid’s parents can foot these bills. My kids put themselves through College working the whole while they went to school. They did it and have VERY well paying jobs today, and have since paid off all their school loans themselves. But they did learn their”work ethic” helping their mom and dad on the family dairy farm. In fact, they put how they grew up on job applications and got hired immediately because businesses know the work ethic involved in dairy farming….

My young son started to act up in McDonalds. I told him he needed to behave when we were in a restaurant. He said McDonald's isnt a restaurant.
Employees were too greedy they got what they asked for and were too ignorant to understand. They went on strike to get more money for jobs that were there to help students and young people.

There is no such thing as "the government helping you".
These are not skilled labor. This is a starter in the workforce to gain experience or a short-term part-time secondary to supplement. The food, the service, the dining experience is not restaurant level, yet they are at that price level. You would think a burger, small fries, small soda would be about $3.25 maybe $4, just something really simple. A QB or Big Mac meal $4.85 to $5.99, add a dollar for large. For "sandwich" prices alone, you should be getting a small fry and soda. Simple food, so people buy more, upsize a buck, add extras like pies or sundaes, or another sandwich. They want you to pay crazy $$$ for McPrison level food.

Today we ordered a Special Asian dinner for 2 that can actually feed 3 people. Plus we ordered 3 shrimp rolls and 2 wonton soups. Everything was fresh and our total cost was $15.40 with tax. 2 big McDonalds Big Macs with large fry would cost $18.00. Store in Maryland!!
