I’ve been a professional photographer for 51 years but just now getting into cinematic video. Jeven, I find your content the best a “newbie” can learn from. Great job brother, I look forward to seeing more👍
Oh, wow, I love this. I’ve been making ASMR whisper videos for years but I’ve never focused on the video. I debated buying a new camera but I don’t have that much money right now. I felt bad about it but you’ve inspired me to get the most out of my iPhone. There is clearly a world to win! Thanks!
I will! Actually, I already did! Thinking about filming and settings made me come up with the idea to film my city slowly getting darker at night. I added some whispering for relaxation and people love it! Thank you! ruclips.net/video/ZAYi130I8ag/видео.html
Excellent tips to bring a beginner to the next level. I heard a movie came out commercially that used the iPhone for all their filming, so this is a great place to start.
As we come to an end in 2019 and vertical video is the new trend. Questions: Can you make cinematic videos in a vertical format? How would you frame it and what is needed to tell a good story?
Love your B rolls, and the way you establish each shot. First shooting with a wide or an extreme close up shot, You know your stuff. Did you go to film school? Establishing a shot, is the most important aspect of any production and you did it well.
I completely agree w/ all your tips. You mentioned issues that most people don't even understand. And I'm glad you did, because it only emphasizes that to look professional, a business person should hire a video professional like you. Or they could hire me, wink wink. I think more videos like this one are needed. This is a quality video. You obviously thought about how to shoot a good video, how to make it look and sound good. I like that simple lighting in the bkgd. (Yet another factor people don't consider.) The only things I'd add are 1) lighting/exposure issues while shooting; and, 2) the fact that LUTs shouldn't be the end-all to make videos look good. LUTs are nice, I've used them and still use them on occasion, but it's often so much better if you know how to manually color grade.
I enjoyed watching your video... A lot of good information!.. I have to say Mike's skateboard looked more like a surfboard on wheels... Thank you for sharing!...
Not sure why anyone would not like these tips giving it a thumbs down. Great tips easily explained and great comparisons. Thanks man this helps a lot you are pro.
about for your youtube did you record by your phone and use that app or did u use the camera? your background effect looks awesome what kind of effects did you use?
What a difference! GREAT common sense advice. Using these techniques is what makes filmmaking exciting and creative! Thank you! By the way: Ignore the negative comments from the self-appointed critics. Believe me, I'm as observant and picky as they come. I didn't notice anything distracting about your music, verbage or anything else. Keep up the good work...your numbers speak volumes!
Great tips. Being a musician I must say that the background music is more a soundwall that takes fokus from your tutorial than necessary. Great music but I think I lower volume would make the experience better. Other than that super tips!
I sure wish my favorite RUclips teachers would stop the background music when the are speaking. Music is great and it fills up the spaces with no dialog; the trouble is when you are trying to concentrate and the pure gold advice. It does seem that I am the only that mentions this, but I think others might feel the same way.
One of my personal tips for myself only is to shoot when alone. If I am with someone else I tend to be distracted and forget about what I’m trying to do!
These are great tips, but I'd like to see a more detailed "how to". Like *how* do you actually *do* all these things, for someone who's new to photography?
Great advice! Best of all it didn't cost me anything! I've been filming for years with Arris and Eclair and DSLR and all those heavy things and the cellphone seemed to me soooo ackward that I din't even use it for selfies. I'm rediscovering lightweight digital devices like the GoPro and my smartphone but an important thing you mentioned is SUPPORTS. I'm gettting a good gimbal
Old pro musician here, learning to use i movie on iPad. Would be interested in syncing Recorded 4 or 5 tracks mixed down on my DAW (Cubase) with video from iphone and Nikon slr recorded while playing. When I overlay two videos I see audio graph of only main video.
Hi Jeven , I have seen so many videos on how to achieve a cinematic look on iPhone using filmic pro... however I tried a lot ... with different setting using vlog , 24 frames/sec and in different daylight’s .. etc etc ...I have used gimbals to achieve a smooth navigation ... but practically it’s so difficult to achieve such a feat ..to get cinematic look... it’s not even closer ...when I take it to editing ...! Thanks for all the helpful information. Question. You mentioned gimbals. Have you found a gimbal that works well with iPhone 12 and higher. The image stabilizer feature in the new iPhones seems to create a “stutter” in the video footage once it’s on the gimbals. Thanks for input.
hi- this is a great video. but I wonder even the latest iphones (for ex. XR) has rolling shutter problem when you move the camera. Is there a solution to it? I mean when you shoot it LOG via FilmicPro, does this problem go away? If not, how to curtail that?
WOW.... One of THE best videos I've watched. So much passion in your work and it shows. I really like your tips although I don't use any Apple's device anymore. Is it possible to use Filmic with Freevision Vilta M? I am thinking of buying a gimbal and I am inclined to buy the Freevision's.
Thanks Jeven. Great tips. please could u recommend excellent add on lenses for my iphone8 plus. I got a set of lenses - ( telephoto, wide & fish eye). They were not useful at all.

I have a handycam camera to film whatever yet on my phone i can do all of that. Beautiful stunning photos and filming can be achieved through any gear you use. In my opinion.
I know this is 'just' a tutorial. I'm just wondering if you noted when you jumped that your jump wasn't seamless with the apple icons moving around on screen. By design? Or just a small hazard of filmmaking you were willing to live with?
