Great video! Im 60 and have a ktm 790 adventure but its just to heavy to be learning how to ride trails. The klx 300 is on my radar along with the crf 300l.

Biggest difference on the Kawasaki is the suspension is adjustable vs the Honda is not.

For a bike u can hop on and ride to a trail or around town this thing seems like a fun compromise!

For sure, If you want a low maintenance bike that will last for a very long time it's a great option.

15/40 gearing is perfect in first gear for moderate higher speed climbing.

The stock klx gearing kinda sucks.
I got 13/ 43 sprockets right now on mine, and it'll pull up that hill in second and still do 65 on the roads. Made it feel more like a dirtbike.
It's underpowered and overweight but still a fun bike.

It might, I'm certain it could easily if it was dirt/rock/or clay but sand hills are a whole different animal. The extra weight doesn't help it in the sand. It was a super fun and capable bike for sure.

I had a KLX300 as my first small dual sport after being a sport bike and KLR650 rider for about 22 years. I bought my daughter an XT250 to learn on and had such a fun time when I rode it that I wanted a piece of that. Two weeks later is when I bought the KLX300. I got a membership to a dirt bike club in San Antonio, TX, with its own property, and started riding those two bikes out there and really learning how to ride in the dirt. I went from the KLX300 to a Honda CRF250RX and it was not a good transition because it's a cross country race bike and I'm not interested in that kind of riding. I went from the CRF250RX to a XTrainer a few months ago. What a bike! My daughter ended up deciding motorcycles aren't for her and I wanted another dual sport, but something a bit more than the XT250. I thought about getting another KLX300, and actually went to the dealership to get one, but they had a stock CRF450L with only 700 miles on it for about the same price and I thought it would be cool to get something different. The KLX300 was the perfect gateway for me to get into off road riding. The XTrainer is a solid upgrade for the off road part of the equation and I think the CRF450L is also a solid upgrade from the KLX300 for anyone more interested in the light ADV or BDR style riding. Just discovered your channel. I'd be interested in your experience with both the XTrainer and Rieju Ranger because I understood those bikes to be sort of filling the same niche.

Yep the Xtrainer and Rieju Ranger pretty much fill the same niche market. They are very comparable bikes. I have plans to upgrade the Rieju with a FMF Gnarly exhaust in the near future. I'll make some videos after I do. WIthout going into too much detail the Xtrainer has more bottom end power and a more linear power band. The Rieju ranger has more hit in the midrange, a kickstart, a better seat plus an adjustable linkage so if your short it's easy to lower. But if your taller both bikes have a short seat to peg height which might make a tall persons knees hurt after a long day. I installed a seat concepts tall seat on my Xtrainer and the factory Rieju Mr pro seat with a seat concepts cover on my Rieju. Now both are about the same height as a RR and a MR pro. I'm very comfortable on both now.
I agree with you on the KLX300. It's a great bike to start on. It can do so much and is alot of fun. Congrats on the CRF450l I hear once you install a aftermarket ECU it really wakes up the bike. I bet it's a blast. I have this KLX300 up for sale now. I decided I want to upgrade as well and am hoping to pick up a Beta 390 or 500rs in the near future. Years ago I had a 2007 KTM 450 EXC and it was a great bike, then around 5-7 years ago I sold off all my motorcycles because they weren't getting much use. Life was so busy back then. A few years later when my son was around 16 or so he started to get interested in electric motorcycles so we got one and then made two of our own and from there he got his M license and then a few dirt bikes and here we are the birth of this channel.
