This is literally the best explanation of the MX5 I’ve ever watched. You’re very thorough and you don’t rush thru everything like most channels tend to do. Good job man. I’m a fan
This video is the reason I purchased the MX5....and also the reason I can use it so well because of the in-depth explanations. I am using it on fairly large gigs in music venues and going straight out of the unit to FOH. I literally have one gig bag...with guitar and MX5....I can finally hold my coffee when I walk into the gig. Thank you for this great video and explanation!!!
Hi, since I cannot find a straight answer anywhere and you seem to be an experiences user - can you just go Clean - Distortion without the annoying gap when switching presets? I got an Ampero, but I'm sending it back mostly for lack of gapless switching (and some effects sound pretty bad). I'd appreciate your input! :)
@@projectsapiens7314 you can! There was a gap with the looper that created a lag because the buttons were multi-function and it was set up for the button when released to start loop instead of pressed but they fixed it with a software update!!! So I’m impressed and love that it fits in my gig bag.
Hi I’m thinking of getting one , it seems to excell with clean sounds how is it on higher gain ? Eg soldano ,Marshall JCM 800 also on crunch sounds . Thanks for any help
I’m illiterate when it comes to multi effects modeling and processing. I really like how Al went into detail and easy to understand. Most videos I’ve watched either were way to technical and left something’s out or way too fast. If I knew someone who is struggling to figure this out I’d suggest this video
Awesome tone and awesome video. How great to see a pro define what's important in his settings. This is definitely the most helpful Headrush video out there. Thank you!
I just discovered you now. I bought my Mx5 this week and this is my first venture into full digital effects. I’ve been an analog guy my whole career. So this is brave new world stuff you’re showing us here :)
I just got mine but have used other units before. I will say the more you deep dive into the little details in headrush. EQ, compressor, etc the better it keeps sounding. I have tried using a amp return with no IRs it works really well that way too. Honestly I can't tell you which is better yet though ask me in a month lol 🤣 enjoy dude
I just bought myself an MX5 this week and yours is the first video I’ve watched for some ‘how-to’ inspiration. Just so happens I’m after high gain tones to start with so this was the perfect video! Exactly what I needed to see. Thanks!
Really nice rundown Al, cheers for this. It's amazing that they've packed all the power of the full size pedalboard into this unit. Stereo rigs, tails, massive DSP, touchscreen, at that price? Gamechanger.
Your video was sent to me via email by Headrush since I recently purchased and received an MX5 myself. I was a stomp box user for the past 10 or so years, the world of amp modelling can be quite overwhelming as I never took much notice to mic set-ups and the likes, always left that part to the sound engineers at gigs and recording studios. Thank you for taking the time to go through your set-up and explain it all, definitely works differently than analog.
This is a really helpful video. I just got the MX5 the other day. The presets suck! But with the help of this video I was able to get a killer metal tone without adding on an EQ.
Thanks for your clear explaination and sharing. Exceptionally impressed by the noise filter and noise gate at the start of signal chain which is fast and didnt sound unnatural.
I'm starting to surrender to this Headrush. I've been using my Zoom G5N for 4 years now, I've always used Zoom after leaving the Boss GT100 which didn't satisfy me. It is smaller in size, but It's well worth the quality. The G5N has micro simulations, but nothing that compares to this one. Of course it also differs from guitarist to guitarist. But for this style, I really liked the sound. Excellent video Al. Congrats🙏🙏🤘🤘🤘
Dude that always-on chorus hack is brilliant! That sounds really, really unique. And you're right, I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. One thing I'm real surprised at is that you don't have any hi or low cuts in your IR. I've found that's a great global way to get rid of the digital fizz and boomy bass.
Great video. Really clear explanation and walk through of this new unit. Best I've heard yet. The stereo width on a mild chorus is a great thing to know. (I think this box can do dual amp and cabs.) Should you ever have the time, a video on that feature alone would be great. I'm in need of some big stereo spreads for certain projects.
Thank you for this incredibly useful tutorial/walk-through demonstrating each of these settings and why you chose them. Your explanations gave me a much deeper understanding of noise gates, delay, OD/amps, chorus and cabs. BTW, your rigs from the "artist pack" download are amazing!
Thanks for the explanation between lead and rhythm settings. Helped me out so much. Just switched from pedalboard to the Mx5. Just easier to get around with for me. Thanks again
I owned the Headrush Pedalboard and loved it, but I sold it because it just took up to much room. Doing a one man thing I have a guitar synth, harmonizer, ect. already under my feet, so replaced it with a Pod Go which I didn’t like half as much. It was ok, sounded good, just didn’t like it’s setup. Anyways, I sold that and now I have the MX5 which is fantastic! Perfect size, super easy to setup and switch rigs, and different effects, has great amps, cabs and effects not just for my electric guitar, but also for my acoustic, and bass guitar! I’ll have this until I die! It the perfect pedal for my needs! Thank you for the video!
Great Video!! It pretty much reassured me that this was the unit for me. Gonna use it to Live Stream with mostly but, appears there are soooo many scenario’s I can use it for!! Headed to go get mine now!!🤘🏼
Thanks a lot, man! Even though I have a Hotone Ampero instead of Headrush, your explanation of the presets has so much useful info, that I've once again become excited to tweak all this stuff myself.
Just wow. This is very in-depth. As if you just got it and you’re curious what to do. I’ve used the HX Stomp before and the Pod Go. Line 6 has way more models of amps and effects, but the GO is limited because it doesn’t have dual amp/cab routes and the Stomp can do dual amp/cab routes but you run out of DSP fast. With an FX send and return for you to put an external pedal into the mix. I love Fuzzrocious and Way Huge, so if I could put a Swollen Pickle on a Bassman emulation, I’d be in heaven.
Dude you Rock!! Great info. Just getting one to add to my board until I can decide/save for the HR CORE (or latest or Fractal or Helix. You got a Sub. Old rocker here tryina learn new tech. Always had Marshall stack and minimal pedals lol. Continued success sir!!

Hey Joseph. Nice video! Can I incorporate my real tube head into the signal chain? I mean kinda like the 4 cable method and then place time based stuff after the preamp of my real amp.. I would appreciate an answer. Take care! Simon
Excellent video! Quite detailed and informative. Question...during this video were you running this into an amp or straight into an interface and DAW? I love the sound of the MX5 but I haven't found a video yet that shows how to use it as strictly a pedalboard into an amp...meaning no amp or cab sims/IRs. I still prefer a real amp and use a POD GO or Helix running into the front of the amp, but just as a pedalboard (effects blocks only). With the capability of what appears to be 11 effects blocks on the MX5 I wonder how it can be set up as just a pedalboard going into an amp with multiple "stomp boxes" but yet the unit has only three footswitches. Say you had 8 effects in the rig how can the MX5 act like a real pedalboard and switch between them with only three footswitches?

Although the GUI looks very intuitive IMO.
You genuinely make it sound convincingly freakin' awesome!
I'm most definitely down with all that.
Cheers!
I can’t decide between this and the pod go. What do you recommend?
Am I weird for really liking the font they used in the GUI ?
Was the headrush connected to your amp then mic’d?or was it used as an interface?or was it connected to your interface?been trying to sound like that but to no success….
Hey Joseph. Nice video! Can I incorporate my real tube head into the signal chain? I mean kinda like the 4 cable method and then place time based stuff after the preamp of my real amp.. I would appreciate an answer. Take care! Simon
dayymmmm. just ordered mine.
Anyone know any specific songs al has recorded using the Headrush?
