- Dive in! We're going to be making a 3D map of the seafloor together in this 4-part series. I'll use ArcGIS Pro and open data.
Here is all the data you'll need to follow along (44MB): esriis-my.shar...
It includes an extract of GEBCO bathymetry around the magnificent Salas and Gómez Ridges in the Pacific Ocean, a NASA Blue Marble image of the world, and a Natural Earth 10-degree lat-long grid.
In part 1, we do some weird hillshading and blending and go all-in on 3D.

The colors of our planets oceans vary immensely, in real life. Certainly most striking examples are Atlantic vs Pacific....which look Aldo entirely different from say the Somali Basin? Whether onboard research vessel or flying over in airplanes.
yes, you are right. that's a big part of the fun of cartography -choosing a color palette.
