I told myself for a week, I'm gonna do eyes first. An it was hard to get used to. But I am telling you my base makeup, and eyeshadow has never looked better! I dont know what it is, but it is working so well.

i swear doing eyes first really makes a huge difference in makeup application. i never understood how people did it either, but once i started, i haven’t gone back! everything looks so much more clean! it’s crazy how different your makeup can look just by the order you do it!
You'll be better "atuned" with being able to do your lower lash line when you're MUCH older .... getting concealer or foundation that close to your wrinkle lines and dryer skin from aging is a GAME CHANGER when it comes to your make-up ... the "crepey look" from stuck concealer or foundation is MUCH WORSE then anything else you're going to do!! Lol - You've been warned!
brittany stevens - I know what you mean Brittany, and that's how I used to do it too. I just don't have to worry about whether I've done my undereye lash liner first or last now at my age, because there's NO WAY I'm getting that close to that dry area with my wrinkles with anything like foundation, powder or concealer .... they will ALL stick to them and ruin any eye look I started out with! I don't need to get any closer than below my lower lash line with concealers or foundation anyway ... I know some have really dark circles all the way up, which I don't ... just dryer skin and wrinkle lines; the enemy of concealer - Lol!

Same! I don’t use foundation on my eye lids or under eyes. Only concealer. Otherwise it’s too much and looks cakey/creasy and makes me look OLD! (I’m only 26)

It's ironic because I recently switched up my makeup order and I now do my eyes first (instead of foundation) & I agree it's slower because you have to be so careful afterwards (which I also wasn't used to but like you, I like the crisp precise-ness of the eyes) but after you get the hang of it, you get faster at it. I personally think it's worth it because my base/under eye looks so much better for some reason ♡
I think you looked amazing doing things in this order. I always do eyes first. As a fellow makeup artist once told me “work smarter not harder” so much easier to clean up and go to face.
I prime my lids and inner corner zone and then conceal there before eyeshadow. The primer helps the concealer stick. If it still looks dark after my makeup Is finished, I use a powder foundation to brighten more

I always do eyes first as I usually have to rest my hand on my cheek when doing eyeliner so I dont want to mess with the foundation. I was taught to do concealer and contour first, then foundation to even everything out. Brows and lips are last.

That was fun! I don't generally do my eyes first, but when I do, I do concealer first above and below eyes, then eyeshadow. This eliminates the inner corner shadow or worrying about getting too close to the lower lash shadow later. I use a pale shadow to set the concealer on the lid and on the lower lashline. I don't powder beyond that til after foundation.
I can't believe you've never tried setting your eyeshadow base with powder! I learned that trick back when I was a beginner with makeup and it makes life sooo much easier. Love your videos! Thanks for always keeping it fresh.
I used to have all the same issues as you with my undereyes but honestly if you let your concealer set for a while before powder you can a) use less powder and b) start using things like loose powder which never used to work for me. Game changer! Now I never set my undereyes right away and I don't have to pack on brightening powder like I used to. They stay much brighter, smoother, and with more coverage
I put mascara on before eyeliner. I find I can see my eyelashes better and get them coated how I want and if I smudge a little mascara at the lash line, I can usually cover it with the eyeliner.
when I was more into the “instagram” brows I used to do them first, carve them out and then do foundation so my eyebrows weren’t so obviously carved out. I don’t do it that way anymore and prefer a much more natural brow. I just take a little bit of my foundation now and carve out the bottom to make them even. I always do my whole face first then do eyes, then finish with lips basically the same order you do.
I always do shadow first! As well as I do use a dot of concealer in the corner of my eyes /side of my nose after I do shadow and it does work. Makes a difference and covers up the bluish tint under my skin.

The addition of the eye cream before concealer could've helped the end look of the under eyes, but all in all, the finished look is beautiful- as always!
I do my eyes first all the time but I dont do my brows until after foundation and powders.....and once you get used to doing your eyes first, you'll get better at concealing that weird inner corner part of your eye without completely destroying your eyeshadow. I use a really tiny sponge for that part. I loved your video❤❤❤
For doing your eyes first and your concern with the dark spot in the front of your eyes, just take the soft ochre paint pot all the way to the inner corners and slightly down under the inner corner, then you won’t have the dark spot and you can easily wipe away the excess eye primer when you’re cleaning up the eyeshadow underneath!
Emily Noel did a video recently where she asked for weird/odd/unpopular makeup application tips and tried a bunch of them out. I thought that was a super fun idea and I’ve actually tried a few of them that I enjoy. Could be a fun way to play with makeup! Love your videos!

How fun! I am someone that does eyes first always. I have tremors and I've tried the little guards but they mess up my concealer too so I just do eyes first and then face. If I do face first, I mess it up, unless I'm just using a shadow stick. I do highlight, bronzer, and then blush for the same reason you just mentioned. However, I've never done concealer before foundation and waited so long to set concealer. At 50, maybe that will help my under eyes. Gonna give it a whirl tomorrow. Thanks Taylor!
I always do eyeshadows first. If there’s any fallout or smudging of anything gets messed up, I can wipe it off or whatever without messing up complexion. I do upper lids including liner, then foundation, then powder, then blush/bronzer/highlight, then lower lids/waterline, then mascara and brows last
Concealer first is the same idea as highlighter before blush. I find using foundation to blend where it meets concealer makes for a very smooth transition.
I think your makeup turned out great! don't forget to use your sponge also when you do your concealer because I feel like that's what made it look so good!
I always start with brows! Then carve them out some with concealer underneath and set my lids, do my eyes, and then when I go to foundation I “carve out” the top of my brows with my foundation!! It’s the best lol

Love this video! I personally dont do my makeup everyday so I find it easier to do my eyes first so i can wipe away my mistakes/clean it up to get it more crisp. And i also love doing my concealer before foundation, i use a lot less of both and i crease less!! Love your creative mind and that you're always trying new things!!!

I recently switched up my routine. I went from always applying foundation with a Beauty blender to actually using my hands and it has made my foundation more natural and blend into my skin better
I applied my concealer before foundation for more years than you have been alive😂😂 So I really enjoyed this video! As of now, have changed the order I apply my makeup since watching RUclips, mainly following YOUR videos. I am going to try it the "old' way and see how I like it!!
Your makeup is soooo gorgeous!! I do understand people preferring base first but it’s been a huge game changer for me to do my eyes first and this is why: I have hooded eyes, which means I move my face a lot while doing my eye makeup, and it makes my foundation crease so badly, especially my forehead where I have some natural lines. By doing my eyes first, my foundation looks so much smoother, and I also don’t have to worry about fallouts (which, if you bake, wouldn’t be an issue, but i can’t really bake). However, people that do their lower lash line before foundation are still wizards to me, I don’t know how they do it…

I absolutely loveeee this makeup look! I agree! I do wedding makeup for a living every weekend and on all of my clients I do brows first, then eyes (except mascara and lashes since I do a lot of airbrush makeup on clients), then the face! But on myself I always do my base first, then brows, then eyes! Thanks for always doing new things on your channel! I know you always talk about a bridal makeup look and I would love to see a series by you on that! I do face primer, eye primer, color corrector [if I'm using it], foundation just where I need it, filling in my natural moles/freckles that got covered with foundation, light dusting of powder foundation where I need it, eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, spot concealing [sometimes a small blemish won't seem as noticeable once I have other makeup on so I can leave it alone; and it works better on my skin to spot conceal with a tiny pointed eyeliner brush *after* powdering so that the liquid concealer has something to stick to], light dusting of setting powder over concealed spots, contour, blush, highlighter, lips, setting spray, sometimes then a couple more dabs of powder to get rid of any shiny spots around my nose. I don't wear bronzer or false lashes and I don't put anything on my lower lash line except powder foundation as concealer [my eyes are very round so the mid-century (1940s-1950s) "clean lower lid" look is best on me]. I don't usually put anything on my forehead either -- because teenaged-me would be SUPER jealous of how clear and even-toned my forehead is now. 😂
This is the order I do my makeup in every day. It works so much better for me and keeps my makeup looking so much more natural than it does when I do it the other way.
This inspired me to try to switch up my routine and even some of my products! I've been using the same stuff for MONTHS now and I'm ready for a change!

I think the logic of concealer before foundation is that back in the day there wasn't many shades (usually two and the brightened under eye trend didn't exist yet) so you'd conceal dark circles and spots and then put foundation to hide the shade difference between the skin and concealer. Now that we have more shades to match from we put foundation and then we conceal just were the foundation didn't cover in order to use less product.
Her makeup looks so good and smooth! I think it's because of the eye cream and doing the concealer first. I think she should try it more, also for the eyebrows, when carving it out blend it up more before blending the foundation over it. It makes it easier to blend away the concealer on ur forehead!
I like doing eyes first because I usually go all out with my eyes and take a bit of time with them because the eyes are my fav feature! I’ve been working eyes first for a while so I don’t feel like it slows me down. I work eyes first when I’m freelancing as well!

Thanks for the video. I'm also a "face first" person because it seems more logical to me, for some reason. It's true that I do end up checking for eye shadow on my cheeks and cleaning it up, but it doesn't seem to mess up my face makeup.
I do my eyes first and my brows last. You can gauge whether you even need any face makeup or brow makeup at all. I use foundation every time I do my eyes makeup, but yesterday, I didn’t have time and it looked great! I never would have dreamed of being comfortable without foundation when my eyes are done. Definitely an eye opening experience.
Without fail I do my concealer before foundation everyday. It was a game changer for me. I always look awake and refreshed without looking cakey. My small wrinkles don’t show either. I will never go back

Taylor I used to do my face first, ALWAYS! I would always be like “how the helllll do people do their eyes first??” But I tried it once, and NEVERRR went back. I love doing my eyes first, like you said.. it gives you more freedom to be as messy as you like. Also, I feel like if I make a mistake or don’t like something it’s easier to wipe off my eye makeup only then to have to mess up my concealer, foundation, etc. :)
I always start with my eyebrows and then eyes. If i go out of my eyebrow line I can clean it up later and just go back in for small touchups. I love big lashes and usually end up with transfer on my lids. So its easier to achieve a big look and be able to clean it up after. Same as shadow fallout. I always do my lower lash line at the very end of my makeup routine. Takes a little longer but works for me.
I’m the same order as you for efficiency and time. But when I’m doing a very dramatic look or winged liner I always do eyes first because I like using tape!
Letting your primer “set” is sooooo paramount in having that primer actually perform as it’s meant to. Soooo many people slap on primer and go right into foundation, defeating the whole purpose of said primer. That’s why so many people think primer doesn’t work.....but think about it. If you go straight in with foundation, you’re literally wiping away the primer you just laid down. Point is, your specific routine allows your primer to do its thang 😉 I can’t do eyes first, it freaks me out, so I have to prime first thing and then piddle around doing other morning routine stuff for 20 minutes or so, lol!! 😝
So, i do primer, eyeshadow, base, setting spray, brows, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick After Emily Noel’s video of viewer tips, I’ve started doing powder before foundation, and it’s great!
I carve my brows with a concealer that’s close to my skin tone&carve a little high around the top of my brows so that I just have to blend the foundation to the edge of what I carved.

For doing your eyes first and your concern with the dark spot in the front of your eyes, just take the soft ochre paint pot all the way to the inner corners and slightly down under the inner corner, then you won’t have the dark spot and you can easily wipe away the excess eye primer when you’re cleaning up the eyeshadow underneath!
Emily Noel did a video recently where she asked for weird/odd/unpopular makeup application tips and tried a bunch of them out. I thought that was a super fun idea and I’ve actually tried a few of them that I enjoy. Could be a fun way to play with makeup! Love your videos!

How fun! I am someone that does eyes first always. I have tremors and I've tried the little guards but they mess up my concealer too so I just do eyes first and then face. If I do face first, I mess it up, unless I'm just using a shadow stick. I do highlight, bronzer, and then blush for the same reason you just mentioned. However, I've never done concealer before foundation and waited so long to set concealer. At 50, maybe that will help my under eyes. Gonna give it a whirl tomorrow. Thanks Taylor!

I always do eyeshadows first. If there’s any fallout or smudging of anything gets messed up, I can wipe it off or whatever without messing up complexion. I do upper lids including liner, then foundation, then powder, then blush/bronzer/highlight, then lower lids/waterline, then mascara and brows last
Concealer first is the same idea as highlighter before blush. I find using foundation to blend where it meets concealer makes for a very smooth transition.
I think your makeup turned out great! don't forget to use your sponge also when you do your concealer because I feel like that's what made it look so good!

I always start with brows! Then carve them out some with concealer underneath and set my lids, do my eyes, and then when I go to foundation I “carve out” the top of my brows with my foundation!! It’s the best lol

Love this video! I personally dont do my makeup everyday so I find it easier to do my eyes first so i can wipe away my mistakes/clean it up to get it more crisp. And i also love doing my concealer before foundation, i use a lot less of both and i crease less!! Love your creative mind and that you're always trying new things!!!

I recently switched up my routine. I went from always applying foundation with a Beauty blender to actually using my hands and it has made my foundation more natural and blend into my skin better
I applied my concealer before foundation for more years than you have been alive😂😂 So I really enjoyed this video! As of now, have changed the order I apply my makeup since watching RUclips, mainly following YOUR videos. I am going to try it the "old' way and see how I like it!!

Your makeup is soooo gorgeous!! I do understand people preferring base first but it’s been a huge game changer for me to do my eyes first and this is why: I have hooded eyes, which means I move my face a lot while doing my eye makeup, and it makes my foundation crease so badly, especially my forehead where I have some natural lines. By doing my eyes first, my foundation looks so much smoother, and I also don’t have to worry about fallouts (which, if you bake, wouldn’t be an issue, but i can’t really bake).
However, people that do their lower lash line before foundation are still wizards to me, I don’t know how they do it…

I absolutely loveeee this makeup look! I agree! I do wedding makeup for a living every weekend and on all of my clients I do brows first, then eyes (except mascara and lashes since I do a lot of airbrush makeup on clients), then the face! But on myself I always do my base first, then brows, then eyes! Thanks for always doing new things on your channel! I know you always talk about a bridal makeup look and I would love to see a series by you on that! Or crazy thought, with the series of you filming getting your makeup done, since you worked for Mac too I would love to see a series of you doing other people’s makeup for fun!

I do face primer, eye primer, color corrector [if I'm using it], foundation just where I need it, filling in my natural moles/freckles that got covered with foundation, light dusting of powder foundation where I need it, eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, spot concealing [sometimes a small blemish won't seem as noticeable once I have other makeup on so I can leave it alone; and it works better on my skin to spot conceal with a tiny pointed eyeliner brush *after* powdering so that the liquid concealer has something to stick to], light dusting of setting powder over concealed spots, contour, blush, highlighter, lips, setting spray, sometimes then a couple more dabs of powder to get rid of any shiny spots around my nose. I don't wear bronzer or false lashes and I don't put anything on my lower lash line except powder foundation as concealer [my eyes are very round so the mid-century (1940s-1950s) "clean lower lid" look is best on me]. I don't usually put anything on my forehead either -- because teenaged-me would be SUPER jealous of how clear and even-toned my forehead is now. 😂

This is the order I do my makeup in every day. It works so much better for me and keeps my makeup looking so much more natural than it does when I do it the other way.

I think the logic of concealer before foundation is that back in the day there wasn't many shades (usually two and the brightened under eye trend didn't exist yet) so you'd conceal dark circles and spots and then put foundation to hide the shade difference between the skin and concealer. Now that we have more shades to match from we put foundation and then we conceal just were the foundation didn't cover in order to use less product.

Her makeup looks so good and smooth! I think it's because of the eye cream and doing the concealer first. I think she should try it more, also for the eyebrows, when carving it out blend it up more before blending the foundation over it. It makes it easier to blend away the concealer on ur forehead!
I like doing eyes first because I usually go all out with my eyes and take a bit of time with them because the eyes are my fav feature! I’ve been working eyes first for a while so I don’t feel like it slows me down. I work eyes first when I’m freelancing as well!

Love the way this look came out. But all of your looks come out so good. You are so creative. I have been doing my makeup this way for a little while now and it does take some getting used to but it’s a game changer, IMO.

Thanks for the video. I'm also a "face first" person because it seems more logical to me, for some reason. It's true that I do end up checking for eye shadow on my cheeks and cleaning it up, but it doesn't seem to mess up my face makeup.
I do my eyes first and my brows last. You can gauge whether you even need any face makeup or brow makeup at all. I use foundation every time I do my eyes makeup, but yesterday, I didn’t have time and it looked great! I never would have dreamed of being comfortable without foundation when my eyes are done. Definitely an eye opening experience.
Without fail I do my concealer before foundation everyday. It was a game changer for me. I always look awake and refreshed without looking cakey. My small wrinkles don’t show either. I will never go back

Taylor I used to do my face first, ALWAYS! I would always be like “how the helllll do people do their eyes first??” But I tried it once, and NEVERRR went back. I love doing my eyes first, like you said.. it gives you more freedom to be as messy as you like. Also, I feel like if I make a mistake or don’t like something it’s easier to wipe off my eye makeup only then to have to mess up my concealer, foundation, etc. :)
I always start with my eyebrows and then eyes. If i go out of my eyebrow line I can clean it up later and just go back in for small touchups. I love big lashes and usually end up with transfer on my lids. So its easier to achieve a big look and be able to clean it up after. Same as shadow fallout. I always do my lower lash line at the very end of my makeup routine. Takes a little longer but works for me.
I’m the same order as you for efficiency and time. But when I’m doing a very dramatic look or winged liner I always do eyes first because I like using tape!

Letting your primer “set” is sooooo paramount in having that primer actually perform as it’s meant to. Soooo many people slap on primer and go right into foundation, defeating the whole purpose of said primer. That’s why so many people think primer doesn’t work.....but think about it. If you go straight in with foundation, you’re literally wiping away the primer you just laid down.
Point is, your specific routine allows your primer to do its thang 😉 I can’t do eyes first, it freaks me out, so I have to prime first thing and then piddle around doing other morning routine stuff for 20 minutes or so, lol!! 😝

I carve my brows with a concealer that’s close to my skin tone&carve a little high around the top of my brows so that I just have to blend the foundation to the edge of what I carved.
