  • Got a "test" saw back because the fellow running it thought it had blown up.....lean condition. Love my Makita Impact driver! And a review of this Channel's goals and objectives.

Walt I 100% agree with your "rant" about a lot of saw "builders". I was always drawn to your channel over others because you build saws based on a concept and then you prove or disprove said concept over time by running the crap out of them.
That made me trust your knowledge a lot more.
I also think its funny because the first time I ever spoke on a video I prefaced that video by saying "I'm not a professional, I'm just a guy who builds saws ". I think a lot of others could be a little more honest and say the same. Oh well..
Keep up the good work, I for one have learned a lot from your channel and have found out it is indeed about what a regular guy like me can do.

Your comments my friend are so so true. I have built several saws with your input and enjoy it immensely. I have been building engines my whole life it seems, but never did build any chainsaws until you showed us all your insight. Thank You

Walt it seems your vids are what others strive to produce but many as you say are just in it for the money. I get great pleasure out of fixing things, from a big block drag car to a weed whacker. The greatest compliment is when someone thanks me for helping out solving a problem. That’s the ultimate payment. Keep up all the great vids, now I may even start trying to fix old outboards, they look like fun!

Ali-baba has mak-ita copy impact drivers dirt cheap, batteries swap out also and since this maybe interest to you I figured I give you the heads up. Last I checked they was under 40 bucks.

Glad to see some old saws coming out. I’ve recently latched onto a Super XL and an XL-12. May have another Super XL found, the more modern old blue version but old school technology nonetheless.
I’ve learned an incredible amount from you. I’m an expert heavy equipment mechanic but there are nuances to small engines, especially 2 strokes, that we just don’t see with the big iron.
    Keep it up!

I appreciate all your knowledge and info!
I’ve recently bought and built at hutzle g372 with a highway piston and cylinder. Replaced the crank as well. Having trouble getting the carb tuned. Any advice on what to set the throttle, high and low to start?
I have a tach but I’m getting a lot of bog on the low end
Thanks again for all your wisdom

I would start with putting on OEM grade fuel lines and filter & checking for air leaks FIRST, even a simple :brake clean" leak test. Also those carbs were finicky but could be made to work. I would start with 1.25 turns out on both high and low. Work from there. AND all those AM saws were tough to get to idle for a tank or two of gas. Not certain why. Some times adding a .010" more travel on the metering lever helps the low speed on the stubborn ones. But worse case is trying a different carb. hate to say it, but I've had to from time to time.
