- Bulk trash day provides lots of free stuff! Lets see if we can get this free side of the road find John Deere mower running and mowing again. It didn't last long when I punted it to the curb for the next person :). Honda CT first start and ride soon!

Heck I love finding stuff like that.. keep an eye out when somebody's throwing away an old panhead LOL
there is always so much of it I just stopped stopping....but i took the recent Tundra purchase around to juice the battery / fluids etc and had to grab it :)....panhead? been a few years since I've seen one of those on the curb haha

Nice! I did the same thing with a self propelled Toro that was sitting behind my neighbors garage not started for 7 years. He said it was junk and gave it to me. Now I feel bad b/c I cut my grass with "his" mower. Hey he told me he just wanted it out of his yard. Every once in a while I see him silently steering at me from his uncut backyard as I trim my lawn. LOL!
Go offer to cut his back yard,or loan him YOUR mower 😆
@@Wil_Liam1 I told him he can use it. He doesn't want it. His yard gets cut. I am not sure if he has a service or he picked up a NEW mower. I never asked or noticed. I also do not want to belabor the point.

Nice find, I always wanted to try one of these with the front swivels, I'll find one at the curb eventually. Also I'd ditch paper filters on gravity fed fuel lines, usually makes it run lean or not well. Only the basic red metal-mesh are meant for gravity feed, but meh if it runs then its fine.

I found one like that. Bag and all. Had a lock for front wheels via cable. Cable and swivels were frozen. Freed the cable with PB. The swivels had never been greased. Although they had alamite fittings they weren't even greased at the factory. Still have it. The motor is next. 7 hp. I think. Need to dig it out and finish it. Been laid up. Just getting back.

at first it looked like one of musite1 rejects. but really its a John Deere what do you expect.......It runs.
well don't forget i spun some wrenches on it so it's a crapshoot lol

Amazing! Jason, you wouldn’t have used masking tape to fix the fuel line, you would have used Gorilla Tape.

Tip any time you get an ancient whatever that has been sitting for years,remove the spark plug and soak down the cylinder wall and rings with penetrant,let sit for 24 hours minimum before ever rotating the engine.. My save the rings,and or piston plus all old,sat up engines could use a good shot of lube.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Josh now has a way of earning money mowing grass.
Had one of these mowers at one of my properties got it off the side of the road. It sat outside under the fire escape in the winter it was often under 4 ft of snow. Mice are the gas cap multiple times one spring (late spring) we tried to start it nothing. It had water in the gas and the oil was over flowing with water. Dumped out the water changed the oil new fuel and it started right up. After about 10 years the transmission went and it was too heavy to push so we put it out on the street free and someone grabbed it in less than 10 minutes

That JD mower would fetch at least $200 in that condition and running and sell fairly quickly during season..

true, I wasn't going that far with it ( and I didn't run it long ) as i didn't change the oil , sharpen the blades , fuel filter etc...i was punting it , i need to purge :)
Well you could give it to a person like a disabled vet or a single mom who needs one. Most women don’t know how to fix things like that but struggle to keep the yard mowed for their kids. A break down can break the budget.
Be nice now. Mustie1's hair may be white but he's not elderly. I'm sure he will get the riding mowers running...lol.

That mower didn't have a chance with a Champion spark plug - aside from using ethanol fuel, they are a prime reason for lawn equipment ending up on the side of the road. Junkmakers!
